Businesses are out to get money. That is what they do. And by doing so, they can help society - they create medicines, invent products, etc. But businesses will also harm the people if it is in their best interest. Why? Because businesses are made to make money. It is the job of the government to stop them. Corporations are like tigers at a zoo, and the government is the cage. If a tiger gets out and eats somebody, do you blame the tiger or the cage? The cage, of course. Unfortunately, the American people have let a system evolve where government no longer serves this role. But in a democracy, you get the government that you deserve.

I think everyone is out to get money, from my understanding of human nature. And by doing so, they can help society - they create medicines, invent products, etc. But humans will also harm other humans if it is in their best interesting. Why? Because humans are made to make money. It is the job of other humans to stop them. Humans are like tigers at a zoo, and other humans are the cage. If a tiger gets out and eats somebody, do you blame the tiger or the cage? The cage, of course. Unfortunately, the American people have let a system evolve where some humans no longer serves this role. But in a democracy, you get the people that you deserve.

It isn't the job of other humans to stop them. It is the job of law. Ever heard of it? You know, like our Constitution? A set of laws that protect the people? We have laws that say that you can't steal stuff or murder. We also should have laws saying that corporations can't wreck the environment, commit fraud, etc. Regulation is just another word for law.

Again, unfortunately businesses have highjacked the law. I agree that it is the gov'ts job. Unfortunately, just like almost every other time in history, gov't is controlled by the rich and powerful and the system should be blamed, not just the gov't.
