This sounds like a horrendous idea. Setting up a meeting with someone underage when you yourself are pretending to be underage? That's just downright creepy. I would really advise against doing any of this and just go on r/teenagers or something and ask them themselves.

There are much, much less creepy and weird ways that you can conduct this "research." Dear lawd, man.

I'm assuming this pure research purpose is being done under the arm of a research institution - their ethics and review board will help you here.

if it isn't, don't try.

You're definitely violating the ToS for any social media platform that you would be subscribing to.

Also is it okay to just ask someone out to see what reaches them like exercise or a movie together with no sexual requests and never actually following up by setting up an exact place or time like on a regular site or tinder?

It seems like if you were legitimately only going to be finding out what teenagers are into you wouldn't go this far. I suspect you have some ulterior motive you aren't telling us about that would make it creepier than it already sounds so I'm gonna say don't do it.

Social Experiment on Teen Sites

Is it okay to put my profile on teen sites posing as a teen with my pictures but actually as a young adult for purely research purposes? I'm an aspiring screenwriter and an actor and I wanted to know what teenagers are interested in nowadays so is it totally fine to make my age under 18 and just talk to people whether 1 on 1 or in a group convo about anything but we will never exchange any sexual pictures of ourselves, just to pick minds on general interests and opinions, and the occasional sexual joke in a group chat with no intention to seduce just to see people's reactions? Also is it okay to just ask someone out to see what reaches them like exercise or a movie together with no sexual requests and never actually following up by setting up an exact place or time like on a regular site or tinder? I think doing this is totally fine but wanted to make sure if there were any particulars that weren't okay.

Terms of use for these sites likely forbid this kind of misrepresentation. Better idea: ask your younger friends and friends with children.

In an academic or professional context this would be verboten without institutional permission which would be almost impossible to get in your case.
