I don't quite get what you are saying. Academia does not teach self, it preps individuals to fill markets. Some of these markets include:

Professional occupier of private prison,

Professional demander of food stamps,

Professional thwarter of competitors, so that the pie is only yours.

In fact, we need to teach more "self". Individuals need to have the skills to take care of themselves and then have something to offer to society. We tell people, the system will take care of you, you just find a skill the system wants and you can outdo your peers. But the system doesn't "provide" it services and at any point; if automation deprives you of your skill set, if bad luck strikes, if you become the target that enables change: the system leaves you as an example to others to fear.

People need "self" because systems don't trickle down. Raising the minimum standard that each self experiences can only be done by developing skills which we pass on to each "self". The skills should coincide with available resources.

You are someone who pursues self religiously.

Every word you say is self-supporting, every word is equal to self.

Humanity does not prosper this way, only selves prosper.

You don't mention anything of the bad that comes with your belief, proving you have a closed mind. You only think about self-related things, you do not even understand selfless aspects - you're in your own academic solipsism, you didn't think of the opposite case in your argument, you jumped straight into your belief without assessing it as one told you it was good.

TL;DR No.

You have done nothing to show that Academia promotes "self". Academia prompts conformity to supply a top-down system.

That you are confused enough to think they promote "self" is rather devoid of all evidene. Hence, you have not provided any to support your position.

We are moving towards automation, if we don't use automation for the individual, then it becomes a tool for diminishing standards of living.

Increasingly, our work is devoid of meaning. It does nothing but ensure profit for those who have already profited. You seem to be suggesting that we should formalize their profit for eternity. I believe that is not a social goal as inequality breeds hate.

Check my words again, do some quoting and tell me which parts do not explain.

We were born selfless, no baby is born named and no baby is born a speaker, a new-born does not have a position in the man-made reality of Earth.
