The shooting began, police said, when detectives in an unmarked vehicle responded when two people near Sunday’s protest allegedly shot at each other, sending protesters running for cover. Mr. Harris then allegedly shot at police, hitting two vehicles before running away. While running, he allegedly turned, fired at detectives and was shot by one of them. Police said they later recovered a stolen 9mm handgun allegedly used in the shooting.

Chief Belmar said at a news conference early Monday morning that the shooters weren’t part of the demonstration. “They were criminals, they weren’t protesters,” he said, adding that there was a “small group of people out there that are intent on making sure we don’t have peace that prevails.”

Of course this doesn't fit with the narrative that BLM is a violent movement shooting at cops. But the shooting started before the cops got there.
