I was googling some stuff because of reasons and I found a bunch of pictures of able-bodied people cosplaying disabled characters. (Specifically Walt Jr. from Breaking Bad.)

It was really gross and made me really uncomfortable. Like, if you’re a disabled kid the first kind of harassment you probably have to deal with is other kids copying the way you walk or talk to mock you and point out how “wrong” and different you are. Adults dressing up as a disabled character with prop crutches and fake speech impediments feels like the exact same thing. You’re not honoring the character. You’re performing a disability minstrel show.
