Hey. Im not aginast GG at all but...

It is super cringey how a bunch of people that actively advocate GG in videos and what not keep naming themselves/ making their profile pictures/ etc after old philosophers and using statues.

Internet aristocrat, Sargon guy, you. Its just so.... ehhhh.

I kind of understand the view point, but IA's was just a stock image of an aristocrat from google I believe.

in defense of Sargon of Akkad, he's been around before GamerGate and he is kinda of a history nerd, he even had a secondary channel where he read ancient texts.

So using an ancient figure kinda goes in line with his personality.

Well that makes it a lot better.

That sounds sarcastic, but it isn't.

I get that feeling somewhat but if the worst thing about them is that their profile pics are a little cringe then I can easily live with that.

Oh yeah, I still like most of Sargon's videos, I was just wondering if I was the only one.

Have you seen anti-Gamer Gate's profile pictures?

[–]Doesnt_Draw_Anything 24ポイント25ポイント  (8子コメント)

They aren't any better. 2 things can be bad. Its not a zero sum game.

"the important thing is you found a way to feel superior to both."

Ah, you're above it all - you should put a picture of God in your profile.

Sargon is a history buff so I don't really mind.

I appreciate the sentiment, but unless you're relying on identity politics, why shouldn't people post whatever they want as profile pics?

I don't need to know anything about somebody's race, gender, attractiveness, etc, to judge their philosophies and actions. In fact, I prefer it to letting your body's presence define your relevance. Unless you disclose, the Internet puts you on equal footing to display what you want, and I don't know why we would want to stop that.

You might notice if you reread my comment that I never attacked anyone ideas because of their names, Mr Ad Hominem, well maybe the Descartes guy.

This is on a much different scale, but if the best tasting drink in the world was called Shit-Stain and came in a bottle shaped like a turd, people would still drink it like crazy, but you can sure as hell bet that people would say "Yeah this is great, but whats up with the name and bottle?"

[–]Ad__Hominem 4ポイント5ポイント  (1子コメント)

Did you just call classical philosophers shit-stains?

I mean, it's cheesy and doesn't give off any the sense of grandeur the author expects, no doubt. But cheesy isn't the same thing as offensive.

[–]Doesnt_Draw_Anything -3ポイント-2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Yes, I just called classical philosophers shit stains. You got me.

The point is name does influence people.

Sargon with a long beard quite resemble the actual statue picture.

Also this relativistic mass we are living is the consequence of postmodernism, so people can use old philosophers to make a point.

IA was a picture of a guy modeling an "aristocrat wig" from some costume shop website.

Sargon is named after an ancient Sumerian ruler
