Some people like to spend the time of putting v after gif in their links.

.gifv loads infinitely faster than .gif, all you have to do is add the 'v' to the end of the url.

That depends on where you are. If you're at work and they use any sort of video blocking then good luck ever loading a .gifv.

Linking an imgur .gif you can change the .gif at the end of the url to .gifv to make it an html5 video (I think it's html5 anyway), which are usually much smaller and load faster than traditional .gif's. Then again, I'm now seeing that your disrespect gif was in fact a gifv, so now I don't know what to think.

The #blacklivesmatter contingent often feels excluded from the Democratic machine and they're tired of it. They want Bernie to talk about racial injustice as much as he talks about economic injustice. It's like the Latino community voting for Obama twice and still not getting immigration reform. You can't string along a constituency forever by claiming the other guy is worse, you need to eventually address their concerns.

Some argue this is a calculated attack on Sanders by George Soros ( a Hillary supporter) as he is a major funder of Black Lives Matter.

Or she could just be dumb. Or both.

Man. The classic Some say statement.

Some say it was a combination of Bernie Sanders' refusal to eat a cheeseburger at a highly publicized event in his life and the protestor's staunch admiration for the cheeseburger industry that inspired her to pursue this course of action. Some.

Sanders is one of only 2 sitting U.S. Senators who actually attended the 1963 March on Washington, and saw Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., give his “I Have A Dream” speech in person. (The other is Mitch McConnell, believe it or not...) At the time, Sanders was an organizer for SNCC (the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee). - http://pdafund.com/component/k2/item/70-25-things-you-may-not-know-about-bernie-sanders

"Think of how stupid the average person is, then realize that half of them are more stupid than that."

Ignorance is common, and unfortunately on the most publicly visible parts of reddit the majority of the userbase prefers not to think too hard about what they're saying, upvoting or downvoting. People absent-mindedly start thinking along the paradigm of "us vs. them", and apparently don't think long enough to realize their mistake. People that generalize the actions of this woman or group of protesters to a greater black population are no different than the woman and any other involved protesters.

It's honestly just plain tragic to watch.

I've mostly seen the criticism directed toward the BLM organization itself, and not all black people generally. That is probably just happenstance on my part, and I make no claims that it isn't happening.

Would you feel it is fair, however, to criticize BLM for what she has stated, as she did so as a member of their organization and the organization has made no out-cry against what these protestors have done?

It's not an organization, it's a decentralized movement. But yes, the vast majority of black lives matter activists are distancing themselves from this as much as possible. That shit doesn't make it to the front page of reddit though.

You know what did make it to the front page though, the blm subreddit going private with a "fuck Bernie Sanders" message. I guess they should try harder to distance themselves.

Well, the point behind it being a decentralized movement is that there is no respectable leadership. Like, anywhere. There's effectively very little scrutiny, or none at all, involved in who can claim to represent the movement, and it just becomes a jumbled mess of opinions where generally the outspoken few are representing their interests alone and basking in the attention, creating a hugely negative impact on the intentions that generally got the movement going in the first place.

Is BLM a distinct organization, where these people were recognized as representatives of the organization? If so then yes, BLM can be held accountable. If it's a distinct organization that didn't recognize these people as official representatives of the organization prior to the incident and continues not to then no, they can't be fairly criticized. If it is not a distinct organization to begin with, then BLM itself doesn't really mean anything in the first place and I don't really see a point even debating it.

My impression is that this is basically another twitter movement, and the problem is that as someone else here said, there's no barrier to entry, no one's stopping anyone from trying to take the reins, regardless of whether or not they make a fair representation of the movement's message.

I've mostly seen the criticism directed toward the BLM organization itself, and not all black people generally. That is probably just happenstance on my part, and I make no claims that it isn't happening.

I'm honestly not paying that much attention to it, but I believe the philosophy of my comment applies to much of reddit, and in fact much of the world, most of the time. Consider how you see people perceive Muslims, Christians, Chinese, Indians, Afghans, and I imagine most groups you can think of. The silent majority is often bundled with the extremist minority, then when some of the silent majority tries to speak up, the people that bundled the two groups together become hateful to those speakers, and some of that silent majority becomes extremist in self-defense against the hate. It's a self-feeding cycle of hatred, and as I said, it is tragic to see that occurring.

But then comments like these get upvoted and people who are angry for no real reason at all read them, get a fresh dose of perspective, and maybe it helps change their opinions. Don't be sad that the conversation may be taking a bad turn, just keep on being a good person and telling people the logical and kinder view of things. It helps!

Most rational people know she doesn't represent anyone but her badly behaved self. I think most people would agree that black lives matter. People judging a race based on one person and making racist comments aren't worth listening to.

I never expected so many white people to be upset about a shirt though. Freedom of speech right? /s

How would you react to a white person wearing a shirt with "Drinking black tears" on it? I think it would be unacceptable for anyone to be wearing a shirt like that. To imagine that it is ok for one race, but not the other, is a racist attitude in itself. I think that is why people are upset. People get mad about KKK rallies, but freedom of speech right?

Progressives have given people a built in excuse for their bigotry. Gone are the days where bigotry is bigotry and racism is racism. Now they teach kids that "only privileged people can be bigots". Which is utterly retarded.

Not only are they passing a judgement based on skin color but also a very incorrect one at that (that all or most white people are in a position of power or privelege).

Quite frankly it is a very thinly veiled bigoted movement that hides behind words like "social justice". Protip: If you are bigoted against white people because of their color or men because of their sex... you are just as big of a piece of shit as any asshole burning crosses on lawns or making laws to prevent women from driving.

Freedom of speech is not the same as freedom from being called out for being an asshole.

[–]Elethor [

Freedom of speech means you can say whatever you want, it doesn't mean you are exempt of the consequences of your actions. So many people tend to forget that.

No one is actually upset about her shirt, that would be absurd and childish. People are merely discrediting her, she doesn't stand for equal rights, and the internet is proving that.

Tons of people are upset at the shirt and using it as proof that all blacks are racist

In the same way that she doesn't represent all black people, those people who keep posting hateful stuff toward black people, don't represent all white people. Unfortunately for both of the the loudest are often viewed as the majority.

I'm seriously worried by how much us-vs.-them sentiment there is in response to this. The irony is that the vast majority of people won't see how this kind of response perpetuates racism (and sexism; there are a ton of comments about her appearance.)

she doesn't represent us black people or the black people who are activists. There are extremists like her but I never expected to see so many racial hateful comments toward all of us today.

You mean like how white racists and bigots don't represent all white people?

Asian here. I want to point out that when a white extremist speaks out (think westboro baptist church) people tend to concentrate more on the individual and his/her shortcomings. Compare this now to the situation here and people making blanket statements about blacks and race relations in the US and boo hoo white people have it sooo bad. Why not just concentrate on the individual herself and what an idiot she is? Like you did for Ken Hamm and Fred Phelps etc.

Well, it’s probably safe to say that the highly-upvoted comments on the front page of /r/all represent the opinions of the voting majority of redditors. Or is that too un-PC for you?

Freedom of speech? I remember other groups screaming the same REAL recently.

I'm sorry for the bs that you will go through because of this. I hope Reddit simmers down soon. I wasn't upset with the shirt but just their actions towards potentially the most progressive presidential hopeful in a long time. And the fact that I am apparently a racist because of the color of my skin. I hope more people can see her as ignorant and that the movement doesn't become labeled as an anti-white one.

This, it was not the shirt, but the fact that she is ignorant of who is friend/foe. Extremism? I don't think that her message is that extreme because black lives do matter just like all lives matter.

However basically spitting in the face of a man who has been paramount in giving activists a backbone to spread their message is not an effective means of gaining friends or any serious foot hold for their message.

If you haven't, you should read her press release about the event. There are a few lines in there that may cause you to reconsider her extremism.

All sound pretty reasonable to me and she's right that liberal white politics have failed to sufficiently address these. If only she had gotten on the mic and read that blog post when they offered it to her.

To be fair the people who would paint all black people with one black person's negative opinion, are probably the kind of people that need help understanding "black lives matter" the most.

There's people like this on all sides, and the people you see who get racist in responce to this are indeed people like this from the other race. It doesn't matter what your race is.

Meanwhile I like to think most of us understand that these people are ignorant dumbasses.

Hey. I'm really sorry. As a white person on this website I am constantly angry and ashamed at the casual racism I see here. I doubt it helps much, but I promise there are people here who are unsatisfied and uncomfortable with what appears to be common thought here. I believe there are a ton of people here who get it. There are just also unfortunately a lot who don't.

[–]Admiral_Duckington [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

If there's anything I've learned from reddit in the last few weeks, it's that racism is alive and well and this just illustrates how much work needs to be done. Now the white upper-middle class kids are equating a handful of people acting disrespectful to the racism and prejudice of the last couple hundred years. Even though I disagree with the methods of this handful of people and who they're protesting against, I hope they continue to be active, because at least it brings awareness and discussion to an issue most people have been willfully blind to for decades.

This comparison is not stupid, and here's why:

Stop focusing on Bernie or the black woman in the pic. They are different, but they aren't the subject of this comparison. Focus on the people doing the yelling as the subjects of comparison. Both are expressing an absurd hatred on a person just based on race. Both display ignorance and reveal the deep-seated racial issues that plague America.

It's not necessarily a comparison in the sense that Bernie is oppressed. The title is "Hate" and I can see that in both pictures. What this picture symbolizes to me is that they are becoming what they are trying to fight against.

Edit: people are pointing out I said "they" and saying I'm grouping all black people with her. The reason I say they is because it was two women that charged up on the stage, and I believe another male. Sorry if I was not clear, but in no way am I saying all black people are like this.

This one person is becoming what she's trying to fight against.

To compare this woman's political disagreements with Sanders to the actual hatred of old-school racism is so preposterous I can't believe it. I doubt these rabble-rousers wanted to stop Sanders from going to school, voting, or dating a Black woman. It's absurd either way.

They wanted to have their views heard because they feel the candidates aren't making them a priority. I don't think that's how they should have done it but its a far fucking cry from 1960's style racism. This comparison is disgusting. Its as disgusting as Chris Christie talking about hugging 9/11 victim's families as a pro-patriot act argument.

Hatred.

Just showing someone yelling in the heat of a moment does not hatred make. Not to mention the context behind why these people are yelling.

[–]I_will_fix_this [スコア非表示]  (0子コメント)

The picture depicts the context that has been talked about today about some people in the black community being hateful and even racist towards Bernie Sanders. If you know the context of both pictures you can easily see how they both project hate with the use of racism and segregation in general.

I burst out laughing because honestly, it was that or give up on humanity entirely. Holy shit. This has got to be a troll.

The people of Little Rock Nine were beaten, spat on, had acid thrown in their face, and people burned effigies of them, after their ancestors spent centuries being treated as animals.

Bernie Sanders had to deal with a couple of people yelling at him.

I know people are going to make this about SJWs vs the world or something. I have no opinion on that, but this post is an absurd, completely invalid and frankly sad comparison of two very different events.

It's like a parody. I can't believe this is real. This (from what I can tell) is a woman crossing a picket line to desegregate a school and she's being compared to Bernie Sanders who had to withstand a fucking two person protest at his rally.

I don't approve of what they did, in fact it was downright stupid, but this comparison is quite a stretch.

You're missing the point here. This is not a comparison between Bernie Sanders & the black girl beign screamed at. If that was the case, the title should be "opression" and that would really be absurd.

But as the title says, its about hate. In both cases you have a bigoted racist screaming at someone they don't know just for the color of their skin.

So, what, just stick a picture of Hitler up or something and a picture of a Bernie speech and title it "Speech"?

Yeah, you can't just ignore the context of a picture and claim it's only showing one facet. You put this together and people are going to assume Bernie Sanders is being compared to a black woman trying to integrate into a previously white-only university.

I've seen other commenters here claim "well if that's what you see you're stupid" but seriously, well... they're wrong.

GTTC is saying that for someone to believe these 'massive strides' can be reversed by the actions of one person, then NamesAreForFriends doesn't truly believe there has been any progress at all. He's equated the actions of one or a group of people to the entire race's progress in America.

This is beyond wrong. You are saying that Bernie Sanders is the equivalent of a black woman (in the 1960's) trying to attend school in the deep south? This is what you are saying??

I'm stunned that we've got to the point where people can put a bloke (who's generally had a pretty decent life, as far as I know) getting shouted at by a couple of radical kids at the same level as racial segregation. The userbase here seems to have lost all sense of perspective and gone completely mad.

I think OP is actually saying the black woman shouting at the Bernie is the same as the white woman shouting at the black woman. Which is just as stupid.

Why is it stupid? You have two pictures where you can see the hate on someones face as they yell at another. The implication is that in both cases, their hate is due to the persons race (which as far as I can tell is accurate).

It's a comparison. Obviously there are many ways the photos differ, but you can still compare how they are similar.

I find it laughably stupid to compare a young black woman trying to deal with the visceral hate that comes from racism at the end of the segregation, with a Senator of the United States government having to deal with two protesters.

Yes, its a comparison. And its one that lacks perspective, nuance, or any recognition of context and scale.

The hate is completely different.

The little girl is being yelled at because of her race. Bernie is being yelled at because BLM believed he has a platform and hasn't been utilizing it. BLM is completely misguided about that and the way the two protestors, if they can be called protestors, acted was despicable. However, this is not some issue of reverse racism and I think Bernie would be the first to say that.

No. It wasn't titled "Oppression".

The picture is a juxtaposition. It's trying to show how absurd the unfounded hate against Bernie Sanders really is, by putting it next to a scene of the 60s.

It's not a comparison in the sense that Bernie Sanders has to go through what the black women went through. It's showing that the protestor ultimately committed the very act she fights against.

The collage is not meant to belittle either instances of racism*. At least, that's how I understood the post.

(* I think it was racist to shout at and silence Mr. Sanders like that. The reason apparently was, that he is a white man in power. From what I learned about Mr. Sanders, it seems that he always had a anti-racist attitude. Even in times where that was a dangerous believe to communicate)

Don't worry OP, behind the grainy image is a solid message. Upvoted.

Look OP, this isn't hate. While both women yelling in each picture (and would it kill you to crop a little better) are bullies and douches, this is not in any way, the same situation in both photos. The woman, and by extension, the other marchers, in the right photo think it despicable and morally reprehensible that "colored" Ms Eckford be allowed to go to school with "whites." It is very likely they reviled and probably "hated" Ms Eckford and all "black" Americans. That is definitely fucked up.

But what happened at Senator Sanders' rally is very different. This is about uninformed, generally narcissistic, assholes co-opting meaning-full and necessary movements in an attempt to feel self-righteous indignation. This issue isn't one of race or hate. This is an issue of a jackass (singular or multiple) trying to piggyback on powerful, motivating, and important issues for their own self-aggrandizement.

The "protesters" at Bernie Sanders' rally are douche bags, if they'd have done a hint of research, or maybe, more precisely had more courage, they'd have staged their attack against someone who actually deserves #Blacklivesmatter's ire. But, despite their incompetence, it isn't about hate.

It's about lost individuals trying to find a movement to rally behind and the catharsis that comes with working against persecution. Or better said, the feeling of righteous wrath-fullness that comes from fighting against being persecuted. (It's the people, who have never reeeeeally been persecuted, that embody this shit)

So please OP, and people looking at this post, don't confuse this as a young black women's hatred of an older white male, or white male politician. That is not what's really going on here. This type of shit is happening across the board. From feminism to obesity to any number of racial issues, there will be assholes that will incorporate the good will of each cause to stroke their own ego. So please, please, please don't mistake this current douchebaggery as the same as the hatred that opposed civil rights.

They are both moronic but they are not the same.

So you're really going to equate a couple of black morons disrupting a US Senator with an entire political system preventing Southern blacks from going to school and voting, and beating them and setting dogs on them when they try to do so?

Who are you morons?

The racist part of Reddit is trying to get the liberal part on their side, I think.

I want to give credit to the black woman on the right. She deserves to be noticed.

This is Elizabeth Eckford. She is one of the Little Rock Nine. She was a remarkably strong girl and more focus in this thread should be on her and what she accomplished.

Oh please come on. Enough already.
Those situations are not equatable at all - Bernie Sanders is not facing social oppression in any way, he's simply trying to ignore some dumb fucks who think they can get their word out by being obnoxious and loud. Don't turn this into a "white people face discrimination as well" thing.

yelling at someone ignorant of the fact that he has done more to end the racial discrimination she faces than she herself has.

IDK, I could be wrong, but one picture is someone harassing someone because they are racist, the other is someone harassing someone because they are ra...oh.

I really, REALLY want to hear an explanation as to why they chose this event and why they chose to attack Bernie. I'm sure they have no explanation because they don't know what the fuck they're doing to begin with. It seems like they like doing this for the sake of media attention, not much politics behind it.

Sanders' Portland event begins in 45 min.

Still about 45 mins til the doors open and the queue is already well around the block. Easily a sold out venue

20,000 people.

Well anyone who complains about "race appropriation" is technically pro-segregation.
