How can anyone see this and think, "hmmm, I want to eat that"?
[–]firereaction 3ポイント4ポイント5ポイント 2時間前 (1子コメント)
People don't see the animals before they eat the meat. Why would some cute photo online change anything?
[–]The_Ebb_and_Flow 2ポイント3ポイント4ポイント 2時間前* (0子コメント)
This has actually been studied and they can increase empathy towards non-human animals.

Or not thinking it's morally wrong to kill animals for sustenance?

A lot of people think that yes, doesn't mean it's true though.

Doesn't mean it's wrong either.

Killing them for sustenance is nutritionally unnecessary for survival, therefore it's immoral to take an animal's life to feed yourself. Humans can happily live on a completely plant-based diet.
American Dietetic Association
It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that appropriately planned vegetarian diets, including total vegetarian or vegan diets, are healthful, nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases. Well-planned vegetarian diets are appropriate for individuals during all stages of the life cycle, including pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence, and for athletes.
Dietitians of Canada
A well planned vegan diet can meet all of these needs. It is safe and healthy for pregnant and breastfeeding women, babies, children, teens and seniors.
The British National Health Service
With good planning and an understanding of what makes up a healthy, balanced vegan diet, you can get all the nutrients your body needs.
The British Nutrition Foundation
A well-planned, balanced vegetarian or vegan diet can be nutritionally adequate ... Studies of UK vegetarian and vegan children have revealed that their growth and development are within the normal range.
The Dietitians Association of Australia
Vegan diets are a type of vegetarian diet, where only plant-based foods are eaten. They differ to other vegetarian diets in that no animal products are usually consumed or used. Despite these restrictions, with good planning it is still possible to obtain all the nutrients required for good health on a vegan diet.
The United States Department of Agriculture
Vegetarian diets (see context) can meet all the recommendations for nutrients. The key is to consume a variety of foods and the right amount of foods to meet your calorie needs. Follow the food group recommendations for your age, sex, and activity level to get the right amount of food and the variety of foods needed for nutrient adequacy. Nutrients that vegetarians may need to focus on include protein, iron, calcium, zinc, and vitamin B12.
The National Health and Medical Research Council
Alternatives to animal foods include nuts, seeds, legumes, beans and tofu. For all Australians, these foods increase dietary variety and can provide a valuable, affordable source of protein and other nutrients found in meats. These foods are also particularly important for those who follow vegetarian or vegan dietary patterns. Australians following a vegetarian diet can still meet nutrient requirements if energy needs are met and the appropriate number and variety of serves from the Five Food Groups are eaten throughout the day. For those eating a vegan diet, supplementation of B12 is recommended.
The Mayo Clinic
A well-planned vegetarian diet (see context) can meet the needs of people of all ages, including children, teenagers, and pregnant or breast-feeding women. The key is to be aware of your nutritional needs so that you plan a diet that meets them.
The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada
Vegetarian diets (see context) can provide all the nutrients you need at any age, as well as some additional health benefits.

But morality is subjective. When you say it's immoral to kill an animal to feed yourself you are just stating your opinion. Other people have different opinions, one of which is that it is not immoral to kill animals for food, regardless of the circumstances.
There is no right and wrong when it comes to morality, there is just different opinions.
[–]The_Ebb_and_Flow 1ポイント2ポイント3ポイント 1時間前 (2子コメント)
I agree that other people have different opinions on the matter but that's only because we don't extend the morality we apply to ourselves to how we treat non-human animals. For example, the vast majority of people would say it's wrong to kill a human for food, yet when it's a farmed animal it's suddenly fine. Same applies to or even cats and dogs, they are animals also, yet most people would agree it's also wrong to kill them for food.

That's because it's killing your own species. I'm pretty sure that's less to do with morality and more to do with evolution.

A fairly large part of the world kills and eats dogs for food so I don't think this is true. We in the west have just grown up with them as pets and working animals so we see them differently.

Treating your own species well has nothing to do with evolution - natural selection "works for" the individual, not the species.

Probably because not everyone is a vegetarian and there are people who like eating meat for nourishment instead.

Pigs are actually far more intelligent than most people would expect, about on par with dogs, so some object to factory farming them because they're very obviously self-aware.
Along with cows, their mass production is a significant contributor to global warming- takes a lot of feed and water to process the meat and it is inefficient. (Cows fart a lot, too.)
High consumption of red meat is strongly correlated with cancer risk. It's worse with processed red meat, like bacon, many deli meats, etc., but is present in the regular consumption of steak and other unprocessed cuts.
The Mediterranean diet- the diet with the best average longevity and lowest incidences of things like cancer and heart disease, according to nutritionists' consensus- has red meat as a rare treat or total exclusion, along with sugary sweets. Protein comes from lean sources like poultry, fish, and nuts.
There are actually many reasons to not eat pork (or beef) beyond being vegetarian. Neither meat type contains any unique nutritional value that isn't easily found in leaner meats and other sources.

So you're saying the way chickens are bred is fine and it's perfectly fine to eat them instead? Also until those theories and correlations are proven they will remain just what the are, theory. If I want to eat meat I will and your whole comment has literally nothing to do with mine. I never said pigs as the form of meat either nor cows. I could literally be talking about humans if I wanted to. I know very much so about the whole idea of being vegan and everything that this post apparently is about. It's found that many food items are bad for you in large consumption.

I don't think that. Well.. I do, but only when they're nice and plump.
