This is the origin of those types of copy pasta. You're telling me an attack helicopter (or even the stuff the original meme mocks; i.e. Dragonkin and what not) is to be taken seriously and respected?

It doesn't trivialize anything because it's not mocking people who want to be called he or she. It's mocking the breed of morons who want to be called goofykin (or dragonkin, moonkin, wolfkin, I could go on but I hope you understand by now.
