Fics Section Update!posted by Cyn on November 9, 2014, 2:24 am
Hi all, resident fics-loving Cyndaquil here!

The Fics section has been around for quite a while in its current incarnation (2012+), and before that in some form or another at least as far back as 2007. Aside from a small hiccup in 2011-2012, the section has pretty much stayed on eFiction and hasn't really changed much in terms of features.

Today, I'm happy to announce a large upgrade to the Fics section: Tags! In the same vein as the gallery, you can now tag your stories with any pokémon, character, warning or tag term you like, not just the previously predetermined options. These tags are now displayed with the story summary and can be searched or filtered out of a search. This will make telling what's in a story at a glance simple, as well as giving you more control over your searches.

As with any new custom feature, there may be bugs or areas for improvement. Be sure to let us admins know what you think! Happy Reading!

IRC server update!posted by Flygon on July 31, 2014, 9:55 pm
Hey y'all!

As some of you may have noticed, the IRC server has recently undergone an upgrade. This upgrade has involved moving the service onto it's own VPS (essentially: It's now it's own independent server, and no longer on the same server as the main website). The advantages of this include improved stability, fewer netsplits, and potentially improved performance as a whole for both the main website and the IRC service.

As part of this upgrade, it will now be necessary to connect to the IRC service via irc.agn.ph exclusively. Setting your IRC client to only connect to agn.ph will no longer work. The website documentation has been updated to reflect this.

It is important to note that it is almost exclusively thanks to Alynna for making this all possible! Be sure to give her your many thanks when you're connected to the IRC server!

If you're experiencing difficulties getting your IRC client to connect to the new server through irc.agn.ph, reboot your computer or other device, and try again. If the IRC client continues to have problems connecting, be sure to contact a staff member for assistance.

We hope to see you on the IRC server soon! :)

Minecraft - Everything is awesome!posted by leiger on June 19, 2014, 11:30 pm
You will be happy to hear that the two main teleportation commands for the Minecraft server (/home and /spawn) are now working perfectly.

It is important to remember that when you get to your house, you should run the /sethome command in order to tell the game where you are currently building. You will then be able to return to that point at any time, using /home.

Note that teleportation has a 5 second delay. If you stand still for 5 seconds, the teleport completes successfully. This means that if you want to cancel the teleport after typing it in, you only need to take a step forward and it will automatically cancel!

Although, it is dangerous to interrupt someone mid-teleport, so I'd advise against it. ;)

Please let myself (leiger) or Hatch know on the IRC channel (#agnph-mc) if you encounter any other issues with the server. And, most importantly...

Have fun!

Minecraft Issuesposted by HatchlingByHeart on May 2, 2014, 3:31 am
Asides from the absent commands and features, we are aware of other issues currently plaguing the minecraft server.

Crashes are due to a memory leak in Java we have yet to identify. As far as we know, this memory leak isn't related to the minecraft software itself and seems to be an issue with either java or the operating system, possibly due to inadaquete hardware on the server.

While working to restore all the previous plugins, we may have to upgrade the server specs and/or reinstall the operating system, the former of which will cost us more per month.

We are currently working with our host to resolve these issues as soon as possible, but it may be a while.

Minecraft is Back!posted by HatchlingByHeart on April 23, 2014, 3:59 am
The Minecraft Server is back online and fully compatible with 1.7.9 MC clients, however, not all plugins are back in action yet as they still need modification.

/home, /spawn, and other commands associated with the CommandBook plugin are not currently available.

This will all be fixed at a later date, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

Basic necessities such as claims now work, so the server is very much playable, however, we urge all players to memorize the coordinates of their homes and the spawn point, since the commands that normally take them there are not available at present. Press F3 in game to show all debug info, including your current x/y/z coordinates (top left corner). We also recommend not building too far away from the spawn point, and to build and use a bed asap to set your respawn point in your own house.

Special thanks to leiger for getting this all up and running despite a busy schedule.

Delays in Minecraft 1.7 Updateposted by HatchlingByHeart on March 3, 2014, 8:47 pm
First of all, we're aware the server was supposed to be updated some weeks ago, and are aware that many of you are losing patience with the delay.

The delay is due to the update requiring simultaneous coordinated efforts by both leiger and I, and we have to wait for a day when we are both free to work on the update. The update requires extensive work to convert the current plugins to work properly with 1.7.x, so we cannot just update without first doing that work.

Please bear with us and we will have the server updated as soon as possible, and we hope this does not deter you from playing on the server in the future.

AGNPH Minecraft - New World & 1.7 Updateposted by leiger on January 28, 2014, 4:59 pm
Hello fellow Minecrafters!

We held a short poll on the IRC channel (#agnph-mc) and Hatch and I have discussed this briefly. This announcement is going out as early warning of the planned server changes.

Very soon (within a few days) we will update the server to 1.7 - including all of the new features that come with that update - and will also be resetting the world.

Whilst we will keep a copy of the old world (your work is not being deleted), it will no longer be accessible and everyone will start on a fresh, untamed land of opportunity!*

Please take the next few days to finish up your creations if you have any other plans for them, take a few screenshots, etc.

If you have any questions, feel free to either ask them in reply to this thread - or pop onto the #agnph-mc IRC channel and ask there.

~ leiger

* Due to server resources, we cannot host both the old and new maps simultaneously.

Your Personal Messages proudly brought to you by Delibird!posted by HatchlingByHeart on September 24, 2013, 3:17 am
Some of you may have noticed by now, but the My Messages button has been modified to stand out more when you get a personal message.

"My Messages" will now be bolded in yellow, with a friendly Delibird icon to let you know you have a new unread personal message!

While not a critical feature, it will hopefully be of some use to you guys!

Fics Section Fully Restoredposted by Cyn on August 25, 2013, 11:57 am
A year ago (give or take a few days), Hatch and I worked really hard to get the fics section back up, and most of the old fics uploaded. For the most part this succeeded, and the Fics section launched. However, due to technical problems there were about 10% of the fics missing, and all were missing warning labels.

With the 1-year Anniversary of the Fics section, I am happy to announce that this is no longer the case. I've spent a great deal of time manually adding the rest of the archive, and now the entire archive has been fully uploaded and old warning tags restored.

I've also taken up an active role in administrating the Fics section; we've announced winners of the previous contest and just launched a new Halloween contest! You can read all about it here and here. Writers new and old, make your way down and keep on writing! Here's to another year of promising stories!
