Holy shit the avicii thing backfired. People were dancing and legitimately enjoying it, they probably had no idea he absolutely hates avicii and that song lol.

I can't even really tell the difference to be honest

I don't like or dis-like deadmau5, but holy fuck that was funny. I feel a bit bad for him, but this is what /r/cringe is made of.

You have to understand the context though. Basically what happened was that EG (arguably the crowd favorites) won the tournament after very close matches and almost getting completely eliminated at one point, and the crowd was extremely hyped by it. Moments after winning (it couldn't be more than like 10 minutes) deadmau5 goes on stage and starts playing extremely slow buildup songs, everybody and their moms were confused and didn't know how to react. This went on for like 5 minutes going into buildup but at that point the damage was already done. After that deadmau5 played Avicii (also arguably the more famous song and definitely more up-beat and fit the mood) and the crowd is genuinely happy because of it.

I think it is the fault of the organizers for even inviting Deadmau5. His songs are not exactly celebration kind.

Uh, yeah, I got that from the video and comments on here. Doesn't make it any less funny & cringe.

Ah sorry wasn't really aimed at you, was just sharing the backstory in general for people who didn't actually watch the event

I didn't, thanks for letting us know because it makes a bit more sense now :)

I actually think it makes it more funny and more cringeworthy as well. Read the room Mr. Deadmau5.

I like his music, but I don't like how he always talks shit about other musicians

Dont. I like deadmau5's music but he's a huge asshole. He talks an unbelievable amount of shit about every other edm artist out there.

This video is kind of exaggerated

Seems like deadmau5 just didn't read the crowd right. He has plenty of fast build tracks that would have worked in that particular situation.

There was an ~19 million dollar prize pool . The team that won is American (woo usa) in a highly Chinese dominated competitive scene, in fact the USA has never won this competition before. Each player for the USA team took home around 4 million dollars each, and one of the players is 16 years old...insane. So when they won fireworks went off, the whole stadium that was watching erupted in roars and chanting. Then deadmau5 got on the stage with a really slow trance track and the crowd went from jumping and screaming to kind of staring and wondering.

So , yea you were correct, deadmau5 completely misread what was going on .

aw fuck man, now you made me regret not watching the tourney :/

That's what I got from this video. Plenty of people who don't listen to electronic music often ask what a dj actually does. Well, one of the most important things a DJ does is read the crowd and play the appropriate music to match the vibe. deadmau5 is a fantastic producer and DJ (though he hates calling himself a DJ or someshit like that), but he got it wrong in this case.

Nah, this is a case of something happening for the first time, and the organisers not anticipating their tournament properly.

Obviously in TI6 we will get Tiesto leaping on stage and doing a crazy good set, and everyone will be on Voat discussing how Valve really picked up their game from last year for getting a seasoned DJ with thousands of gigs behind him instead of a sloppy young crum bucket like Deadmau5.

Maybe Valve planned this all along.

this guy is such a buffoon

You're not going to get a rave like atmosphere at a fucking video game competition. The demographic ain't gonna dance.

This was way uncomfortable, is Avicii really better than deadmau5?

For the moment with a big celebration at the end of the tournament, yea Aviciis track was probably better than Deamaus' slowest tracks.

To be fair, considering that probably 70% of Joel's songs are slower (not counting the At Play stuff), and he has no connection to DOTA whatsoever afaik, he probably wasn't the best person to have there as a DJ. There are plenty of other popular producers out there with much more upbeat music.

they shoulda brought basshunter, its nobodies fault but the organizers.

He literally has a song about DOTA

My internet is shit so I can't watch the video but let's sing it.

vesira hari danta nu spella lita dota..

[–]Abedeus [

He's literally a shill for League of Legends now.

Deadmouse wrote a music pack for dota and likely made cash cash vash

"Better" is a term I steer away from with music. I'd say "more appropriate" for the setting.

i enjoyed the show but i feel bad for him. valve scheduled him at a shitty time and it was a bad choice to make him play right after the grand finals. i think if he played before the matches it would be better just so he could build the hype.

just unfortunate really ;-;

Personally, they just should have had him at an afterparty like Darude from last year.

He is playing the after party - he tweeted after this little preview failed with a pic of him and Gabe talking about it.

I agree, but I must say that knowing deadmau5, he could play a more appropriate set for the event, but he didn't. I don't blame him, but i just say he could save himself all the embarrassment (it's deadmau5 tho, it's not like he cares..)

Or he could have just played that avicii thing lol

i feel more bad for those homo dota2 players.

I think the captions on the video are cringier than playing the wrong music at the Internationals.

lol what? Those captions were hilarious--totally spot on.

They really were.

You have to go to deadmau5's twitter too. He's not having a good time.

lol @ him trying to play it off. If I was him I'd just stay off Twitter so I don't look like a massive bellend defending my little tantrum.

Wow, he's acting like a teenager.

I was thinking the same thing. I'd love to see the guy who edited the video, and why he thought using the word plebs would be a good idea.

What I thought more people liked deadmau5. I think he iight

He's a douche

So what? Lots of musicians (people) are. People always take this way too serious.

Deadmau5 is poo.

The 'bad' music sounded like something he would make. So this is just silly.

Oh no. You done messed it up.

waited for this to pop up here.

I love Deadmau5, and I see what he tried to do with the slow songs, but even as someone who dislikes Avicii, the music would set the mood, of course I'd enjoy it. Hell, unless a song is absolutely unbearable, I could enjoy it at a party or with friends. I think Deadmau5 didn't understand this.

It kind of feels like this was all planned to an extent, just by how well the camera people followed him, especially with the shots from behind.

Aside from these captions, why do we believe these are Deadmau5 opinions? Deejays performing a live set never play exclusively their own tracks. His choice to play Avicii could have just been one of assessing the crowd and playing something he felt theyd like.

Link to what happened without the awful captioning.

The captions were spot on, what are you talking about
