There's a difference between racism and being closed-minded. While I'm not sure which the commenter was trying to imply, I'd argue that it's less about racism and more about being raised in a way that doesn't really prepare you for this kind of thing.

Also are you really defending her comment? It's a public social media site which invites commentary from really anybody on your friends list. Could he have put it lighter? Maybe. Was what she said a pretty good demonstration of, if not racism, a more close-minded mentality that can't adapt? Yes.

    I think his reaction has more to do with the fact that she emphasized the word MAN in a caps. Kind of like air quotes implying he's not really a man which can be taken either as she's insulting his manhood or she's insulting the fact that he's a black man and the emphasis is to convey that he's less of a man.
