I'm so disappointed that there won't be coverage of Thursday's debate on Monday's show. I'm also disappointed that there won't be a Monday's show. He will be missed.

What about the new guy

Trevor Noah's not coming on until late September, if memory serves. From what I saw - and apparently so did Jon - he's got a lot of potential.

Maybe because Larry Wilmore as a replacement for Colbert has been painfully hard to watch. It's decent, but he doesn't have even close to the same timing, wit, or scathing social commentary as Colbert. And his "commentary" is pretty singularly-focused.

I think Trevor Noah is way funnier and charming than Larry Wilmore, but I wonder if him being South African will inhibit his ability to satirize American politics like John Stewart.

Well how do you feel about John Oliver? He's not American but he still does an amazing job.

Isnt he a legal resident and married to a armed service member? That kind of qualifies him as far as I am concerned.

If Trevor Noah is going to work here I'm sure he'll be a legal resident soon if he's not already. Plus marrying someone from another country doesn't give you their nationality.

No, but it implies that he is tied closely to this country, which considering we are a nation founded by immigrants is close enough to comment on some of our ridiculous policies...at least in my opinion.

I think all to need to comment on a nation's policies is to know them. And having another country that you know just as well or better is great for comparing and contrasting. He's contributed to the show before and Jon wouldn't let some stranger take over his show.

That is true, I didn't give that much thought. But much like Colbert's unscripted thank you to Jon* said, John Oliver worked with and learned from the best, and for all intents and purposes is an honorary American in my book. I have hope for Trevor Noah, he is very globally-cultured and intelligent from what I've seen so far, I just want the theme and quality of the show to remain similar.

Do you not think Trevor worked with Jon too? He's not going in cold.

He's not an honorary American, he is an American.

He's been here long enough to understand our society and culture a lot more than someone who's only been here a few months though.

[–]Szos 0

Hasn't Oliver lived in the US for many years though?

I think that other guy is quite new to the US and our ways.

[–]Szos 1

Haven't seen a single episode of Wilmore's show.... sounds like I haven't missed much.

John Stewart

I swear. I've been thinking about writing a bot for this for years. It is JON Stewart.

Probably need to write an exception for the DC comics subreddits.

Thank you for saying so. I can't believe the negative attitude I have seen on reddit about Trevor Noah. Like little children who aren't familiar with something so they don't like it.

i remember being iffy when Jon took over from Kilborn. I liked the version of the show before him. But holy shit was the new version better. I think it could still be good, but will likely be different.

I think Louis C.K. put it well in the second to last episode, he said something like "the first step in falling in love is saying 'who the fuck are you?'"

Yeah, I think it's a little hard to compare Jon's start to Trevor's start. Jon was basically a television god for 15+ years. I'm excited to see where Trevor takes it, it's definitely going to be different. If it's even 50% as good as when Jon was hosting it'll still be a good show.

Although they did mostly keep the original format when the changeover happened. And now the real issue is this -- when Craig left, like 14 people were watching the show. It was just cheap semi-daily content for Comedy Central so they wouldn't have to show that extra SNL repeat. Now, the show is an institution. Or was, as of two days ago.

I think the problem right now is if they will try to keep it the way it currently is instead of changing it completely around like last time.

That may prove problematic without Jon's personal touch.

I think it is kind of fair to be skeptical though. Especially considering how many correspondents there are on the daily show that would have been excellent choices. It isn't just, "Jon Stewart is the only one who can do this," it's that I think people saw a lot of other options that they didn't go with.

[–]Phylar 2

Oh man, wouldn't it be great if this was all just a ruse?

"Hey guys! Let's fake me leaving just to see how bad everyone gets when they think I'm no longer around!"

The bullshit/lies he and his writers called Fox news on is simply astounding. Even then, it only scratches the surface of Fox's asshatery.

As much as I think I will miss Jon Stewart, John Oliver did a great job as host while he was there. I'm kinda looking forward to seeing how the new cat will do.

With the 2016 Presidential election coming up, Trevor Noah will at least have a ton of fodder to work with. I wish him all the best but he's got big shoes to fill.

Stewart was only 5'5", his shoes can't be that big.

Fox News and their ilk loved Jon Stewart. The way he went after them fit right into their "liberal media conspiracy" nonsense and their viewers' persecution complexes.

O'Reilly will. His biggest ratings are usually when Jon is on his show.

Maybe because all of Stewart's fans tuned in to watch too lol?

Memory serves, The Daily Show episodes with O'Reilly were also highly rated. They made good TV together.

I think part of what got Jon down was that calling Fox out didn't change shit because their viewers, median age 65+ according to Neilson, don't even consider alternate views let alone watch CC. So, nothing will change at Fox

I'm still having a hard time processing the fact that he's gone. I don't doubt Trevor's ability, but it just won't be the same. Hopefully he'll make cameos or something of the sort.

It is ridiculous that the responsibility falls on comedy shows to keep media conglomerates accountable.

Satire and comedy have long been used as an indirect way of criticizing governments and authorities, especially in areas where direct criticism could have a negative impact on the commentator. Maybe it's just surprising we still do that in this day and age where the backlash is not that severe in the United States (like being put in prison for speaking out against royalty).

Good picture, Fox News are rats not wanting to get caught

[–]Szos 0

That new guy has huge shoes to fill. I hope he doesn't disappoint, but something tells me he just won't be able to hold a candle.

Fox news hasn't abated at all during his run. I don't understand this.

Let's be honest Jon and Fox started at the same time. They grew in close relation to each other. But I don't think for a second Fox changed it's behavior because of Jon Stewart. Roger Ailes gave an interview on it and was like, eh he's a nice guy with a nice family. He got a lot of material from us. I wish him luck..

While Fox is and the Daily Show was a power house... They're not really in the same league

Meanwhile, Fox still pisses on everyone else's ratings.

Kim Kardashian is popular as well.

Our baby boomers grand parents need something to watch all day

That's because cable news sucks and only old people who are afraid of the Internet watch it religiously.
