Didn't stop the internet minority from screaming misogyny and racism at the top of their lungs because Geralt wasn't a FtM black transexual. It's ridiculous. It's a story about Polish mythology.... Context people! Good characters require context. And you can't just fling that sort of shit out there, willy-nilly. The first issue is that it becomes a token gesture. It's demeaning to everyone concerned.

Secondly, if it's done poorly (or percieved to be poorly done), the writers get hammered into the ground. People are scared to write diverse characters, because they will have a group of screeching lunatics if they fuck up. Look at Bayonetta. She, in my biased male opinion, should be a feminist icon. I mean, she's sexual, but not overly-so, but, more importantly, she's an avatar of stylish death-dealing. She is self-reliant, and kickass to the extreme. And yet, there were cries that she was under-clothed...

Look at Lara Croft: People said that the early iterations of Lara Croft were too sexualised, her breasts too large. In the more recent iterations, they're more naturally proportioned. And there was an outcry. Why? Because the people who had previously stated that she was over sexualised were now saying that she had lost her feminity, reduced to the body of a little girl. I mean... What the fuck people. Seriously, it pisses me off. Stay the fuck away from media that you don't even fucking care about. If you really had played the Tomb Raider series, and actually knew a damn about Lara Croft, you wouldn't give a flying fuck about her breast size. Why? Because she's smart, ressourceful, and physically impressive.
