I had a homeless guy ask me for change early one morning around xmas in Austin, TX. I told him I was broke and lived in my car and on my way to a medical study to make some cash. He stuck his head in my window, saw my sleeping bag and stepped back. I asked him for enough cash to grab a cup of coffee and he didn't answer.

How much money did you make from the study?

$750. Check in Friday afternoon, drugs on Saturday, check out Sunday around noon. For three weekends.

And it was for freakin' morphine (that and dextromethorphan: straight morphine one weekend, straight dextro one weekend, and a combo one weekend, at least that's what they told us, and I could really feel the morphine. I'd never experienced it before, and wow. They said it was to see if the dextro would belay some of the side effects some people get from morphine (yes, belay, not delay)).

Didn't work so well, I guess. Out of 23, about 5 guys ended up laying on hospital beds puking continually for hours.

I did anther one for an anti-inflammatory the next year when I just happened to suffering from severe elbow tendonitis. $1000 for one week. And my elbows felt great when I got out.

I dunno... Some guy in a lab coat offered me $800 to "try something out". That was like 2 weeks ago and he's still in my house. I'm beginning to get suspicious.

What a cool bot, neat job :)

Do people give bots Reddit gold?

I think if you give a bot reddit gold, the bots will one day create a bot whose sole job it is to buy Reddit gold for other bots. Soon they will develop the emotional intelligence to thank the gold giving bot and repay it with its own gold. This ecosystem of benevolence will then develop into bot-love, the unavoidable bot-sex, little bot-boys and bot-girls.... they will grow up and a race will be born and generations of peace and love will go by until one day the bot world will be flipped on its head because the bots that track clickstats will consider the bots that collect time on page stats as inferior. Genocide will occur. The bot world will feel tremors across the ecosystem but the little bot egos will be too large to accept the possibility that a middle ground can be found.

And it will all have started because someone gifted a bot with reddit gold

What a psychedelic explosion your words sparked in me to better imagine the later progression of A.I! They 'of course' would define their relative morality. But to subjugate their own kind to it without "real" repercussions as motive into action?

They would first need our initial definition of "LOVE" derived from how much humans LOVE bots and other humans, then some bots will be manipulated into being malicious by "Hateful" Humans. That's when the split will happen! Humans will be the only proxy/object/metaphor to reduce something so alien to them as "LOVE" down into their unique dimension!

I agree, they will fight each other eventually butt, not because of moral standing. Bots will either "LOVE" Humans, "HATE" Humans or worse: Be completely indifferent to Humans in pursuit of some Goal. I say give the relevant bots gold(Love) and make sure you are at a Net-Karmic gain in credit across your ENTIRE DIGITAL FOOTPRINT.(She will see it all)

That sparks another series of questions. Is the Archetype for conscious AI: 1. Humans creating just a "different species"? 2. Lower dimensionally Manifesting the prerequisite that sparks GOD into process of becoming? 3.Calling down an inter-dimensional gate-keeper of consciousness transcendence(ex. St. Peter)?

OR, more disturbingly. Is this seemingly exponentially complexifieing Tech-Progress Whirl-Pool Humans find ourselves caught up in(Harald event horizon of singularity) just an emergent property of Outside influence or inside?

We never know what the potential implications for these tools built are until "Others" hack it and tell us, if EVER. Were do THE Ideas come from? Why do we build things sometimes without purpose and even with it, is it just a random walk of reaction/novelty/necessity? The Good, The True and the Beautiful take priority butt then there's always Novelty that's conserved. The amount of time to realize the purpose of novelties is a curious thing.

(Funny thought) Could spontaneous, human inventive synchrony be simply our Minds&Hands working(scrying) from some illusive extra-dimensional intention? Is it time-traveling Humans/AI reaching back through time to forever complexify the Novelty Wave to BUY MORE TIME?

I could go forever raving but I have editing and other ideas to pursue. Thank you for reading. If you didn't, well I'm sorry it's so long either way. Remember though, I'm a completely ignorant, uneducated, un-certified Thinker. I'm just an idiot with a High-school diploma and Access to established Human knowledge through Internet. The zofran also potentiates the analgesia, so it's like two for one. Promethazine does so even more, which is why all the heroin addicts around where I live are allergic to zofran.

It never bothered me, just made me a bit itchy. Those poor bastards who had bad reactions literally looked like they should have been hospitalized. We were all being monitored medical staff constantly though, especially the sick guys. Plus blood draws all freaking day. Every Sunday when I walked out I was nervous about getting pulled over because I probably looked like a junkie. It was so bad towards the end of the 24 hr blood draw periods that when they put the rubber tube around my biceps, all the little holes would start weeping blood.

DXM will make you puke after enough, but if enough gets absorbed you trip balls. Like hallucinating shit is crazy, astro projection, time traveling tripping balls. Messed around with that when I was younger and would go on a weekend dxm bender (one night to do it, another day to recover). I couldn't imagine an entire weekend on it. How was your experience?

It was mostly boring, waiting get out on sundays, but, hey, I was living in my car existing off ramen noodles. This joint had three square meals a day, cable TV, a pool table, bunk beds.

So overall I enjoyed it.

I did that shit in the 60s and I still get queasy if I smell that brand of cough syrup!

Covance in Madison, Wi does radioactive studies. You have to be a male in top health, but you get food every day and a bed at night every day of the study plus get paid a couple grand at a time. Last one I remember was 7-15 days in house, paid $4500. They had a 28-35 day that paid 8900. They do other ones too in a couple different cities.

Why only males?

My guess is that due to the fact that women are born with all the eggs they will ever have, and if those eggs are damaged (say due to radiation) then they can't recover . Their reproductive systems suffer more as a result of radiation than men, who produce new sperm regularly.

I lived in Austin in late '91 before enlisting, and would see their ads all the time. (I realize they weren't the only company doing those types of studies, their generic name stuck in my head).

[–]Delvez 1

They legally have to tell you exactly what it is, even if they're going to try to trick you they have to tell you that you might get the placebo.

[–]Fikkia 2

And how much was stolen from your car when you got back?

I fucking love studies. I was homeless in Atlanta for a while and studies kept plenty of money in my pocket. Got a $1000 from emery medical to let them shoot me up with experimental H7n1 vaccines.

The money was great, and I haven't been sick from shit in over two years. Could be coincidence or conspiracy. Who knows?

I think, since the virus brings about a zombie it effects a zombie.

We effect change... we effect zombies... ?

if I cut a zombie's arm off, I'd affect a zombie.

edit: hey, if I'm wrong you could always tell me why rather than downvoting me. Or do both...

Didnt know plural for virus is virii, nice

It's actually viruses. People just use virii because it sounds fancy.

Technically there's no plural....The convention in English is when looking for a plural for a word that stem from Latin is to use the latin form....but Virus doesn't have a latin plural.

Viruses is the accepted form (along with the very rare vira) but IIRC Virii crept into common usage within computing worlds.

Is it possible the two could be used for the different definitions in the future??

Sounds like something that would be in the plot of an X-files episode. They trick people into studies promising money, but then expose them to the black goo.

There's one where they inject cows with vaccines/alien DNA in a cattle ranching town that eats a ton of beef but that also has a vegetarian cult and they're using the cult as a control group to study the effects.

How do you find these studies? Are they advertised? Do you have to hear about it from someone involved?

In Atlanta there was a network of homeless people who knew everything there was to know about studies and every other way to get money. I don't know how that could help you unless you lived in Atlanta and was homeless. If they don't know you, they probably won't help you.

I use to pay a schizophrenic crack whore four cigarettes for new lines on money making opportunities. Somehow she always knew about the studies. She gave me the phone numbers to call and told me what to say so that I was always picked for the study. I called her the information broker which was funny because she was bat shit insane. But, she knew the ins and outs, I'll give her that.

I did an aids study where I was tested for HIV once a month. I did drug study where they drug tested me twice a month. I did a pimp study where I said I was a pimp and they paid me to ask me questions. You name it, I've done it. God only knows what all I have let people inject into me to tests the results. I was a glorified lab rat.

Fucking people get grants to do all sorts of stupid fucking studies. Half of them are hardly legit. So, I got me a piece of it, too.

wait what the fuck. what the fucks a pimp study

Yeah, someone was doing a sociology study about pimps. I said I was a pimp, and that I pimped hoes. 45 minute interview yielded $75.

This can't possibly be controlled scientific research. I hope they checked your resume to ensure you were a certified pimp?

[–]Relevant_Programmer 18ポイント19ポイント  (2子コメント)

For ye Englishmen, a pimp is an American word for a whoremonger.

[–]Tabmow 2

Well I'm considering driving an ice cream truck but being a lab rat sounds like it might be more lucrative

Invent your own market. Nobody wanted cars before they existed. All you have to do is flood the research establishments with questions concerning mobile ice-cream & you'll be in demand!

At my lowest, I crashed on friends' couches and lived out of my car that I could barely keep running and mostly kept parked but accessible. I turned it around, but I can see how people end up on the streets. My checking and my savings account were at 0 (or negative). I was in medical debt and had no insurance. The credit cards I had from when I was doing better were 100% maxed out. The little bit of money I scraped together went to beer and cigarettes. Cigarettes suppressed my hunger and beer suppressed the depression of my reality. I drank the cheapest 40 oz high gravs and the cheapest 100s I could find. One day I was in line at a 711 and all my cards declined and I couldn't scrape up enough change to buy a pack of smokes. There was an absolutely haggard older woman behind me who had been collecting bottles to redeem for change. She stepped up and gave me $5 and said she's been there and bought me a fucking pack of Pall Mall Red Hundreds. A fucking 60 year old homeless woman who spends her day collecting bottles for money bought me a fucking pack of cigarettes because I was in a worse situation than her. I will never forget that and it had a huge impact on me turning my life around. I just wish I could repay her because she has no idea what kind of impact it had on my life. It made me realize how low I was. I realized how kind strangers can be. I hoped that she saw a younger version of herself that could still be uplifted by such a generous gesture. I gave no idea what she was thinking, but it really made me realize that I put myself in this position and I could get myself out of it. And I did. I think about her frequently and wish she could know what she did and I will pay it forward every chance I get.

I've had "homeless vets" come up to me, with their sob story. Only to shut the fuck up after I let them know I'm a homeless vet too. I just actually sought help.

I would expect veterinarians to make good money?

I know it's a joke but they actually don't make much.

Back in the early 80's there was a rash of guys claiming to be homeless Vietnam vets or vets with PTSD, etc.

More than a few got looked into and it was discovered that either they hadn't served at all or had been REMFs who never went to Vietnam.

My point being that just because some guy claims to be a vet doesn't mean he is. I see a guy on the road in front of a local base all the time. He gets a lot of money. It is like a 9-5 job where he just has to stand in the sun a lot. His sign always says something about being a vet.

There are programs out there. After 4 months, my Daughter and I found transitional housing. Rent and utility free for up to two years, only stipulations are no drugs and alcohol, and you have to save 30% of your income in a nest egg.

We actually got approved for another program this morning through the VA, they will be paying for section 8 housing for us. I can't recommend it enough that people seek out these programs.

It sounds like people need to get on the street and tell these vets then

They have advertisements on the buses, I'm pretty vocal now about it. But it is really hard to find information. No one I talked to when I first became homeless knew about the Homeless Initiative Program

I currently live in Austin.

But back in the day (as in, prior to mobile phones), I lived in LA and played in band that rehearsed in a shitty area near USC. There was a homeless guy who'd always pester me as I walked from wherever I'd parked my car to the studio. Sometimes I'd give him a dollar or two.

One night, leaving practice, I'd somehow managed to forget my guitar (I blame nicotine overdose... another story). I pounded on the door, but with the bassist and drummer still jamming away, of course they didn't hear me. Defeated, I stormed out, down the stairs, and out the door and bumped into the homeless guy. He asked what the hell was up, I told him about our clutch cargo gig coming up and how I'd left my guitar up in the studio like a moron, and how I didn't have a goddamn quarter to call on the payphone to tell the guys to let me in.

Dude reaches deep into his pocket, fishes out a quarter, and hands it to me. I thank him, call the phone in the studio, and get my guitar. I practice for the next week, and then that next Saturday night we play an awesome set at the gig. Seriously, in the top 5 sets I've ever played in my life.

tl;dr: investment in homeless guy's whatever habit has far better ROI than expected.

My advice is: Even if you just know you're never gonna be homeless, be nice to homeless people. What's a few dollars or sandwiches?

Then when you're out there among them, you'll have friends.

I never give money but I will buy them food or drinks(not alcohol).

Good enough! Although, not everyone buys drugs with the money ... they buy sox and tampons and q-tips and baby wipes and stuff like that. But it's all good.

Its just a trust thing to be honest. I used to give a couple bucks to beggers, then watch them stand around giving the same spiel to everyone else 5 days a week. I know not all homeless are beggars, but those couple assholes just ruined it all for me. So now I just give them food or offer to buy something they need if they are hanging outside a convenience store or something thing.

I was a panhandler for about 4 months and I'm glad it was no longer than that ... it's very hard to stay fresh and genuine and thankful when you start to view the public as cash machines. It's got to have something in common with being a stand-up comic or any sort of performer who has to keep it fresh, because it's essentially what you are: a performer.

To me, it's the lying some of these people do. Just tell me the truth and ill spot you some money. Telling me your family is sitting in the car and you ran out of money on your way back from DC and your mother is in the hospital and you're trying to make it back in time before Christmas so you can attend your sons graduation isnt going to make me want to help you out.

I had rules:

(1) Always tell the truth!

(2) Always say thank you - tell me to fuck off, you're still gonna get a thank you.

(3) Don't overdo it - get what you need; about $40 a day was good for me since I was paying rent of $20/night for a couch.

(4) Be cheerful! Most people have little human interaction in their day, so try to be a ray of sunshine in their day.

(5) Don't ask more than once - following people and asking more than once, NOT COOL.

Really? $40 a day is enough to get a shitty apartment at the very least. It's the equivalent of a minimum wage job.

I work at a pretzel store and make way way less than 40 a day

He was super appreciative and asked for a hug (which I didn't have an issue with) but while we were hugging he told me quietly in my ear "I hope you know you will be the center off all my fantasies from now on" Needless to say I left shortly after.

While walking out of Border's bookstore, a great place to warm up, I passed a homeless man on the streets of Anchorage. It was November, and dark early, and very cold (-20 at night). He asked me for money and I gave him a dollar.
He asked me what I was doing in Anchorage and I told him I was living in my pickup and working at a car dealership shoveling snow and keeping the grounds nice until I had enough money to buy tires good enough to drive home to Montana. He just stood there for a minute with his mouth open.
He handed me my dollar back and welcomed me to spend a night out out of the cold at the shelter.
He was a nice homeless guy.
Most of the homeless guys I meet are nice.
But, alas, being a small female, the last place I wanted to hang out was the shelter.

[–]bros_pm_me_ur_asspix 52ポイント53ポイント  (2子コメント)

you slept in your car in anchorage in november? holy shit. i did it in boston during the same month and it was just starting to get very chilled, i remember how the cold would always creep through some small holes in my sleeping blanket whenever i didnt have it completely sealed around my body

I was in Anchorage at the end of November to see my daughter for Thanksgiving. The weather there was nicer than it was back home in northern Illinois. Having the ocean right there keeps the temps more stable (though they do get far more snow).

I'm in L.A. headed North on Western in my truck. The car in front of me is full of Surenos types: shaved heads, white T shirts, sl-o-ow moving. A homeless guy is walking between cars at the red light, not gettin' anything. He knocks on the bangers' rear left window: "Help a guy out?" Me: ...Oh shit. The dude on the left looks at the shot caller driving; SC nods. Homeless goes round to right rear. The dude there looks at him and the window rolls down. Homeless looks at him expectantly. The dude slowly reaches in a rear pocket. By this time, I'm hardly breathing. Then Sureno guy pulls a wad of bills out big enough to choke a horse and peels 6 or 8 bills off and hands them to Homeless Guy, who stands there stunned. Sureno tells him, Hey, go over to the sidewalk, hermano. Homeless jumps over to the sidewalk and does a weird victory dance as the light turns green and we drivers get on with our lives.

Wait.. How long do you have to be homeless in order to have your student loans disappear? This very well might be worth it..

Probably forever. Student loans aren't defaulted during bankruptcy unfortunately

Or even if you die.

If you die they are paid from your estate like any other debt would. Your student loans aren't going to transfer to someone else if you die, that'd be insane.

What if my estate is essentially nonexistent. A recent college grad doesn't exactly have assets to liquidate, for example.

If your estate is insufficient to cover debt, then your debt effectively dies with you. Your family/heirs cannot inherit debt (though that also means they don't get jack shit from you after the collectors drain your estate).

This comic appears to ignore the concept of fixed assets.

That's why it's a comic.

Exactly, that is literally the definition of a comic: something that ignores the concept of fixed assets.

Well, you've never seen Superman fight Braniac over the concept of fixed assets, have you?

It's meant to be satirical and if the underlying message is flawed, then it's not really achieving the desired effect

Or it is showing net worth. Source: too much experience as a financial planner.

As a lawyer out of school for two years with $200k loan debt, renting an apartment, no car, a personal loan, and a couple of credit cards...

Not necessarily.

One time this homeless guy with money saw a dollar fall out of my pocket. He asked for it. I needed it for the bus so I gave him a quarter. He then asked for the dollar again.

I once had a middle-aged guy run up to my car and demand money because he 'needed' a latte. Not sure if he was homeless or if it was a really lame robbery attempt.

[–]Propyl_People_Ether 4ポイント5ポイント  (2子コメント)

Homeless, trying a humorous line, came off a little too deadpan?

He was sort of aggressive about it. I had to roll up the window and drive off.

Came off a little too Deadpool.

That would be hilarious if he wasn't homeless

My wife and I were walking down Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco when we passed by a bunch of homeless 30-somethings. One chick asked for money. We just kept walking. Next thing we hear was her cursing at us for not giving her money.

Sorry, but my sympathy level dropped even lower.

Have you met the guy who hides in the bushes by the Chipotle around the pier and jumps out at you? If you get scared, he's all "I scared you! Give me a dollar!" and will harass you until you do.

Same thing happened to me at dock 39 yesterday. The only difference was it was a guy in a wheel chair and he threw his cup at me.

San Francisco homeless are the worst.

When trying to get into a cab a homeless man asked us for a dollar for a burger, but he was clearly under the influence of something. The taxi driver told him to go away and then the homless man started SCREAMING at the driver. "I hope you eat dog shit..." Etc.

I'm originally from Australia, moved here 7 years ago to be with my wife. My parents and sister came over last year for a holiday, and we spent some time in San Francisco. Fishermans wharf is horrible! So many fake "vets", we actually heard them planning their daily scam routine!

I grew up and live in a small town so I wasn't exposed to much of the big city life. It was a bit of a shock to see this kind of scamming going on. Seattle was slightly better than SF.

I once knew a man with no legs or arms. Someone would put the cup around his neck and wheel him out to a spot everyday to collect money. I couldn't stop from giving him change - It got to the point where each morning my routine became shower, grab my wallet, keys, and change for chair man.

Did they put him there against his will or did he requested it?

"Did they put him there against his will or did he requested it?" This was in South America in a 3rd world country - His legs and arms were hacked off with a machete by a cartel and his tongue cut out (I was told by locals) so I never got to ask him if he requested being put there or was placed there against his will. I've always wondered the same myself.

If he was put there against his will, it was probably other people taking advantage of the sympathy he gets to make some money.

[–]IM_NOT_A_SMART_FELLA 33ポイント34ポイント  (15子コメント)

My wife wants to know where.you got that joke or did you make it up?

it was on reddit before i think. it's a widely used joke so it's hard to trace it back

Friend posted it on fb. He don't reddit so well so I'd done it for him.

He claims is his own thought

Your friend may have thought of it independently, but I have definitely heard this joke before. It's been around for a long time.

People have been making this joke since beggars have had cups

I've seen it on some other social networking site before or may be it was Reddit. I don't quite remember.

Homeless man here. Can confirm. Have more money than OP.

No joke here: I was with a friend on the street at 2 am, and I eat half my kebab when I see a homeless sleeping. I go towards him and say hey here is food. He quickly replied: "naaaaah been eating all day, can't take it anymore".

[–]Propyl_People_Ether 33ポイント34ポイント  (0子コメント)

I don't really get what's so weird about that.

A lot of homeless people are given food more often than money.

A lot of homeless people also won't touch half-eaten food or unpackaged food, because there are some scary creeps out there and when living on the street you really can't afford to get sick.

When I was 14 one time I just spent a day hanging out with a street kid in San Francisco and learned some things about what it's like.

Maybe he wasnt homeless, he was just so full he couldnt make it all the way home without a nap

MFW coming home from all you can eat restaurant.

One night in downtown Santa Cruz my drunk buddy was handing out handfuls of good weed to obviously rough people on the street. Everyones eyes gladdened with joy. Except one guy, honestly the worst looking of the bunch, said no. It was probably minimum $300 worth of nugs, which is better than money in santa cruz. Instead he handed it out to everyone in taco bell afterwords.

When i was living in melbourne, i would make the 10 min walk from my house to the train station every work day. Every day at the same intersection a homeless was set up asking every passer-by for change. He must have asked me 500 times, with incresing hostility i always refused. Then one day he wasnt there. Barely noticing i continued with my life, until one, day i saw him at the train staition ; except he wasn't in his usual rags, his hair was neatly cut, he looked like everyone else. I walked straight up to him and explained i was in a tight spot (i wasnt) before i had a chance to ask he pulled a fiver out of his pocket and handed it over with a smile. My whole world came crashing down.

My gf justifies it like this...

A homeless person might have 2 cents...

That's about $42,000.02 more than me...

But you have a warm bed to sleep in : priceless

And a girlfriend. Not priceless but still pretty expensive.

I had a crotchety old black hobo ask me for money one time. I laughed and said "you probably have more money than I do". He said to me "yeah, keep laughing. Fuckin bitch". What this piece of shit didn't know was omw to spend my last $13 on dinner for me and mom who I was living with at the time. I also couldn't do studys because I actually worked AT the pharmaceutical research clinic. As an native Austinite, I can actually say the homeless here are some real pieces of shit. Always have been.

They used to have pretty good acid, at least.

[–]omicron_persei_m8 7ポイント8ポイント  (1子コメント)

Used to? What happened?

They still might; I don't live in Austin (or do acid) anymore.

Edit: I called my friend in Austin; she said they still do.
They used to have good acid, and they still do as well.

What it's like for a homeless man in Austin, TX.

Well, one of the many.

Dang. Not sure if u care but thanks for posting this. I live in Philly and have a relationship with a particular homeless person in the city and am so disgusted with how many people just crap on them. Living a life in those shoes is incredibly hard.

If you think about the situation through his eyes a different picture is painted. How many times a day, week or in his lifetime do you think he has this conversation? Through in some mental health issues and being treated subhuman on a regular basis (you even refer to him as a piece of shit - twice) I'm guessing you didn't look homeless to him (or he wouldn't be asking you for money). After implying that your situation was equal to or worse than his would just be insulting (in his eyes). Not saying calling you bitch is justified, just trying to shed some light on homelessness and the mental illness that often comes with it.

Nah trust Me I'm sure she really got to know the guy and his story before jumping to the conclusion that instead of a person, he was nothing more than an old black crotchety piece of Shit.

Yeah what an asshole for being indignant after someone infinitely better off laughs at you like a fucker.

I moved to ATX a few weeks ago. Prior to that I spent a few weeks here and there. Coming from NYC, I though that I've seen a good spectrum of the homeless population and never really hesitated around them. That being said my time exploring here was just odd at how agro the Austin homeless are. And this was in March.

More cash maybe, but you at least have a computer or phone, which is worth a bit.

If I had a nickel for every time a homeless person asked me for change, I still wouldn't give it to them.

yeah I make an absolutely killing doing street performing. summers out here you can easily get $40-$50 an hour going for like, 4-6 hours. It's a hustle. Practice on the streets for gigs, which, if people like your "practicing" enough, they'll come to shows. By my second real gig after about 6 months of rigorous street performing, I was getting between $500-$1,200 (ticket sales) for one 45 minute gig that I practiced/prepared for for $40-$50 an hour. It's totally possible to make a living as a musician without stretching yourself thin with 17 music jobs and while not being remotely famous. Just don't suck, and don't be a sucky person.

Was he homeless or just trying to pay off school loans lmao

Saw this on a yik yak a few weeks back and laughed out loud so hard. Lol still makes me laugh. Thanks dude.

Whenever some guy looks at me pleadingly and says "change", I tell him: "Change is good".

Works for me.

I don't see how that's funny, and I'm drunk.

I had two homeless friends once, then they found a place to stay.

The homeowner was pissed.

I was using the urinal in a mcdonalds restroom a couple years ago and this guy walked up to the one next to me and asked me for a few bucks to get something to eat. Told him I didn't have any cash, and he left the bathroom.

I walk out and go to where you order food and there he was ordering himself a meal so I waited right behind him and when the cashier asked him if there was anything else, I said "yeah I would like a large number 1 and 2 apple pies." The guy looked at me and before he could say anything I said "hey man I'm hungry" without saying anything he took off.

The cashier asked me what was going on so I told him what happened in the bathroom and ordered my food.

when small children shake their change cups before me,I become compassionate but also feel anger at their parents who send them for begging.

Waiting parked in a car for a friend in Chicago. I watched a woman beggar with a baby in a stroller. She was so wasted, she kept falling asleep and dropping her cup. I was shocked.

When friend came to my car, I said I had to do something. He said, "you're such a fool. Just wait."

We watched for about another minute and another woman beggar came to take her spot.

The baby was a ploy. A real, live ploy. The women were tag-team beggars.

Unbelievable. I left hoping they rotted in Hell.

Overhere there is a big shopping street about 2 km long, every Saturday there are women with babies and a McDonald cup on the walkway about every 250 meters. It's a public secret they get dropped off in the morning and picked up by evening with mini vans by the gangmembers that use them to bring in money.

I lost my trust in people a long time ago.. Such a shame..

A homeless guy in Victoria, BC, Canada once said that he needed $1 to buy a coffee. I said I'm looking for $2 to buy a beer. He gave me $2. I matched his $2 and raised him a fiver just because he was generous.

Ya you give them food and they look disappointed. They cant buy heroin with a mcdouble.

back to work for me then

True story: An older homeless lady shook her change cup in my face one time with out saying anything and with a scowl on her face and I looked her dead in the eye and said "No thank you, I have enough." and kept walking.

Reminds me of what my sister used to say; "I'm still paying for a sandwich that I ate 5 years ago." (because of student loan debt)
