More Shots Fired Near Jade Helm 15 Training at Camp Shelby
by Andrew Husband | 12:26 pm, August 5th, 2015 BREAKINGFor the second day in a row, shots were fired on the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. On Tuesday, early reports of two men in a pickup truck firing on the facility were later disproved, and the alleged shooter was never found.
According to Mississippi National Guard Director of Public Affairs Lt. Col. Christian Patterson, soldiers in attendance at the camp’s Jade Helm 15 exercise reported shots fired into the air around 8 a.m. As the Associated Press report notes, the shots were believed to originate from the same area as Tuesday’s reported gunfire. No one at Camp Shelby or elsewhere was injured.
The description of Wednesday’s alleged shooter matches the one from Tuesday — a lone white male driving a red pickup truck. Initial reports of two men driving a pickup truck were subsequently disproven upon further review.
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant said “soldiers at Camp Shelby and across the state can and should take appropriate steps to defend themselves as necessary,” thereby reiterating an executive order he signed on July 20 ahead of the Jade Helm training exercise.
In addition to the base’s own personnel, the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, FBI and ATF have all come on board to investigate both shootings.
