I always feel like there should be levels to that kind of thing. Instead, he's put on the same list as the 40 year old that slept with a 13 year old. And has to tell all his neighbors, and every place he tries to apply for, etc.

It bugs me more when the guy that's married to his wife is on the same list cause he was 19 when she was 16 and they did the dirty dirty after nine thirty.

See this is why these laws are so confusing. For example in certain states 16 is the age of consent. Does that mean they're then legal for anyone? Or anyone within a certain number of years?

It depends on the state. I know here in Washington it's a 4 year rule. So a 16 year old couldn't sleep with someone past the age of 20 without it being illegal.

Indiana where this happened has a 4 year rule starting at 14, but since the girl was 14 and he was 19 hes outside of that 4 year range. If he had been 18 he would have been fine.

Being 19 instead of 18, is like number 12 on reasons why he was screwed that he couldn't do anything about.

Washington state is actually 16 and the age doesn't matter. 14-15 years can be up to 4 years older, 12-13 up to 3 years older, and 11is 2 years older. Pretty complicated.

In Pennsylvania,the age of consent is 16. At 16, they can consent with anyone that's an adult. Anyone between the age of 13 and 16 can have sex with anyone, so long as they are not more than 4 years older. So, a 15 year old can have sex with a 19 years old and its ok, even though they're under 16 (the age of consent) and their partner is a legal adult. Many states have very similar laws as well.

In some places there are different levels. Generally, they still go on the same list but the list has some kind of classification system which categorizes offenders based upon how violent their crime was and how likely they are to reoffend.

Exactly. He's considered a sex offender. Who has been offended by what he did? There is no victim, therefor no offense I think...

I work at an alternative school. We have a 16 year old student who might find himself on that list for possessing naked pictures of girls from his original school. It's a messed up world.
