I've always had a fantasy about finding a baby deer, and hanging out with it (from an appropriate distance) until the mother returns. The maybe she would bring it back regularly out of trust, and I would have two deer friends.

The mother deer would come back and charge at you to protect its young most likely. When they don't have babies to protect you can feed them sometimes which could be a way to gain deer friends.

My parents have an abandoned fawn in their backyard every couple of years. We've actually seen a doe be aggressive during the abandonment. Mom's new plan is to adopt one and make it friends with their golden retrievers.

That's sweet and sad, the fawn was lucky to find your folks.

TIL that the "don't touch a baby deer" thing is a myth. I still won't touch one for fear of a mother's wrath, but it's good to know!
