Too many fatties and it'll sink into the ocean

That's how they lost the original Zealand.

Never forget.

Well that's technically true, the dutch province Zeeland that NZ is named after is mostly below sea level.

[–]left_rear_tire_god 17ポイント18ポイント  (1子コメント)

God damn will the Dutch ever learn

[–]TRIPEL_HOP_OR_GTFO 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Nah, we just build bigger waterworks, dikes and dams.

Uhm, I live on the original Zealand. As far as I know it's still there.

It's the largest danish island, it's where Copenhagen is located.

Oh my god guys we found it!

How did it get over there. Little rascal

No, new Zealand is named after the dutch province Zeeland.

Australia was originally New Holland.

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam.

Why they changed it I can't say.

people just liked it better that way

Because we're the British and that's just what we do.

Australia was originally New Holland.

I thought that was Mars.

I found the humorless Dane!

I thought that was called Sjaelland

"Sjælland" is the danish name.

So it's proper name then since it's Danish.

Largest Danish island, you mean Greenland? 'Cause Copenhagen definitely isn't in Greenland.

Nitpicker. Yes you are right, Greenland is stil part of Denmark, though they have a large degree of autonomity.

I'm glad someone made this comment :D

They actually did loose the original Zeeland to the ocean in 1953. Thanks to the incredible Delta works, the Dutch were able to retrieve it, but it does remain under sea level.

Loving all the concerned comments about NZ's namesake

It was Atlantis, not Zealand.

They are worried that the island will capsize

Nah only the South Island is a canoe (Waka).

Yeah but the north is a fish, at least the Waka has stability.

first time i've ever heard someone call the south island a stable environment.

I'd say there are more stables in the South than the North Island. Even with the shaky environment here in Canterbury.

clearly never been up the kauaeranga valley.

Lulz. It's true, I haven't.

its like someone took a bunch of people from the hauraki plains and just placed them in the coromandel bush, and deforestation ensued. deforestation in the name of horse.

te-ika-a-maui what what. we all know te upoko o te ika a maui is where it's at.

Not a huge fan of the windy city; then again, I live in earthquake country.

pros and cons for sure-- I liked the culture.. I mean it's not auckland so that's a plus ;)

I don't know the context for that, nor do I want to. It is magical just listening to him ask/state that.
