However, advocating for social change shouldn't be done in a way that attacks a group of people no matter how insignificant you feel your words are. It does not make you a role model of advocacy or make you approachable. This lack of approachability and eagerness to reprimand my concerns (as you have already demonstrated) doesn't allow for open discussion and makes me feel that the only way I can discuss issues with you is anonymously, despite being interested in what you have to say.

Firstly, I can’t believe anon took the time to write reach up their ass and come up with this paragraph.

This is the definition of white entitlement: Expecting POC to be “role models of advocacy” and “approachable” at all times. What this anon’s paragraph boils down to is that when POC are confronted with racism, we’re to put our own feelings aside and make sure that the discriminator feels comfortable, and then take the time to patiently educate them.

Most of the time when I confront racism, I am educating people. What may be seen as “unapproachable” is me expressing my anger, pain and disgust at white racism and entitlement. As a black woman, my reaction, me expressing negative emotions and, I don’t know, being human, turns into me not being a “model of advocacy”, because I’m confrontational and I refuse to take white people’s bullshit lightly. That’s a stereotype in itself. And I’m eager to “reprimand concerns” BECAUSE THEY’RE PROBLEMATIC.

POC are NEVER obligated to educate. White people never have to take responsibility for their problematic behavior, white people never have to be “role models of advocacy” for anyone, why does that burden fall on POC, who are already oppressed BY white people?

If I wanted to facilitate an open discussion, I would have. But I don’t exist for white people to have open discussions that are palpable to whiteness and white privilege, I don’t exist so that white people don’t have to step too far out of their comfort zones to be educated, I don’t exist to make white people feel comfortable. Again, POC ARE NEVER OBLIGATED TO EDUCATE.

There are so many “approachable” resources for white people to educate themselves that don’t include using POC as their personal teachers. Nobody fucking tutored me in racism, so why should I have to do that for white people? If anon was interested in what I had to say, they would not have sent this message in the first place, instead they would have shut the fuck up and listened.

TL;DR White people contribute to the dehumanization of black people and POC by expecting them to put aside their emotions as a result of racism, and in turn create educational environments that allow white people to preserve their privilege. POC do not exist to educate white people. As an individual,  I am not for white consumption.
