Yes! That's a Fata Morgana mirage. They are common in polar regions and cold seas. Basically, light travels slower through cold air than warm air, and this causes the light to bend. If the difference in temperature is great enough, the light will be trapped in the cold layer and will follow the curvature of the Earth. This allows objects beyond the natural horizon to be seen. It appears above the horizon because although the light bends, it hits your eye in a straight line, and that line is above the horizon.

The edge of the dark water in the foreground is NOT the actual horizon. You can see the true horizon about 2/3 of the way up the photo. The true horizon is basically exactly in line with where the red and black paint meet on the boat. Its easier to see if you don't try to look directly at it. It is all one body of water just an area of darker, wind disturbed water in the near field.

A reflection of what and from where? That is a boat and it is in the water in that spot but the Looming Effect makes the boat AND the water look like they are floating above the horizon. You can definitely still see the horizon 2/3 of the way up the pic. I am not sure where you think the boat and the horizon would be reflecting from.

I supose there is a difference in currents between the first darker layer of the sea and the brighter layer. Waves sometimes make thr sea look darker. Or it could be because the sea bottom is of different type (rocky bottom is darker than sand bottom and bikini bottom is the darkest).

Could be Baltic sea with North sea. You can see that the the middle 1/3 is slightly darker than the top 1/3.

  1. The boat is on water but it looks like it's floating. /u/gazda80 explains it below.
  2. The goats are laying next to each other.
  3. The AK is from the picture in the background.
  4. The guy is sitting down and the girl has her head on his left shoulder.
  5. Her head is off to the side, the picture is taken at an angle.
  6. The picture was taken at the same time her hair was in front of her face.
  7. The horizon is aligned with the end of the pipe.
  8. See #4, but head on the right shoulder.
  9. The dad is behind the girls with black pants and the mom is bending over next to him.
  10. The picture is taken from an angle where you see the edge of the glasses and the side of the kid's face but no other facial features of the kid. However, you can see the dad's nose and mouth, and that's what completes the face. Thanks to /u/laxbrotim.

  16. Light travels differently through water so it look like he's beheaded, you can do it too by putting a straw in a glass of water.
  17. The shadow is from a flag like the ones in the background, the flag makes the carpet look like it's floating.
  18. The guy is standing next to a wet spot on the ground.

  19. THe reflection is from a car, you can see the door handle and the wheel.

The kid that's being held in the dad's arms is wearing the hat and white glasses. The picture is taken from an angle where you see the edge of the glasses and the side of the kid's face but no other facial features of the kid. However, you can see the dad's nose and mouth, and that's what completes the face.
