I feel like there are some coordination problems going on here.

Just how much is Stiglitz a fucking shill?

Also, I feel the need to share a minor triumph of mine. I'm usually terrible at overcoming my aversion to work of some kind (the opportunity cost of not sitting on my fat ass watching netflix and drinking whiskey is too high), but I've figured a way around it. On another forum I visit, I've started doing an "Econ paper of the day" thing where each day I read through a paper on Integralds undergrad list, post it and summarise its conclusions. Actually pretty effective.

Well he is Jewish, he probably can't help himself.

Just how much is Stiglitz a fucking shill?

He likes to talk a lot which provides gems like this:

"If we had seen a governance structure that corresponds to our Federal Reserve system, we would have been yelling and screaming and saying that country does not deserve any assistance, this is a corrupt governing structure," Stiglitz said during a conference on financial reform in New York. "It's time for us to reflect on our own structure today, and to say there are parts that can be improved."

He's referring to the fact that member banks of the Fed can elect board of directors for each branch of the Reserve Banks.

There are some problems with his story. Like thinking all member banks of the Fed system are regulated by the Fed. They're not. Nationally chartered banks, which are mandated by law to become members of the Fed system (state chartered banks can become members but they don't have to), are regulated by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency which is part of the US Treasury. Unless they're also designated as a systemically important financial institution in which case they're regulated by the OCC and the Fed. The OCC is the biggest banking regulator in the US, not the Fed.

Also, only 1/3rd of the boards of the directors are bankers. The boards of directors are separated by three classes (A, B and C). Three directors come from the Board of Governors who elect oddball candidates (one came from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) so three of the directors represent the public side. The other two classes, six directors, come from the districts the Reserve Banks oversee and are all elected by member banks. But only 3 of the directors are actually from banks, the other 3 are from oddball places too.

Not like they have any real say in anything either. They can nominate Reserve Bank presidents but those nominations must be confirmed by the Board of Governors.

We have checks and balances in place. Go figure.

If technology decreases the MP of Labor, thus decreasing wages isn't it possible for it to increase voluntary unemployment in the long run?

[–]say_wot_againConfirmed for Google bigwig 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

How are you defining "voluntary unemployment"?

[–]BaratheonEconomistMeta-Cognition 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

If technology decreases the MP of Labor

It doesn't; if anything, increased automation heightens labour demand. It makes workers more productive (do you think we could only have 2pc of the population working in agriculture were it not for severe mechanisation?); technology is a complement to, not a substitute of, human labour.

While it doesn't decrease wages, however, there are legitimate concerns about income inequality as technology makes some workers more productive than others. Unskilled labour could see a stagnation in wages as a result.

All right, since no one is gonna look into this discussion thread, can we discuss shilling? I'd like some spare income so I was wondering if you guys could hook me up with some good shilling employers. I know TPP shilling has been paying well for the last few weeks, but is that still hot or is there another issue you guys are getting paid for now? Thank you.

I was listening to a story on NPR about a company that provides crowds for protests and political astroturfing. It's not quite shilling, but its tangentally related so maybe you could get some experience there and lateral over to shilling once you have contacts.

Koch shilling isn't as bad as one would think.

I'm considering taking the AP Economics exam next year. Is it hard? I regularly browse this sub so I pick up things from here.
