Is basic income bad economics? (self.badeconomics)

Its a Reddit favourite ive noticed, and there seems to be a lot of hype on both the left and right about the idea. I myself am actually quite fond of it, although I wouldnt consider myself a convert just yet. However, i've also noticed there are occasional jabs at it around here, and im interested if this is just in good fun, or if there are some serious economic issues being overlooked by the naked economically untrained eye?

/u/wumbotarian- If you're not going to delete threads that violate Rule IV, maybe adding a link flair next to violating threads so people don't follow their example would be a help.

No but I fail to see how it is superior to an NIT (achieves similar results but costs much less, although contains a bit more work disincentives) or expanded EITC (improves work incentives.)
