親愛なるみなさまへ この度、私は第二次イラク国際市民調査団の一員として、来る2月16日から約2週間、アメリカのブッシュ政権による戦争を止めさせるため、イ ラクに行くことを決意しました。 マスメディアが一斉に開戦間近と報じるこの緊迫した状況の中、なぜ今イラクに行くのか?と思われる方も多いでしょう。私にとってその答えは、 「まさに今だからこそ行く」ということです。戦争を回避するためには、今行動を起こすしかないのです。 目的は、大きく分けて三つあります。先ずは「知る」こと。マスメディアは連日イラク情勢を伝えてはいますが、そのほとんどは国連の査察団をめ ぐる各国の政治的駆け引きと、アメリカ軍の開戦準備に関するものばかりで、イラクに住む普通の市民のことはほとんど知らされていません。し かし、いざ攻撃が始まれば、真っ先に犠牲になるのはその普通の市民なのです。そして彼らはまた、湾岸戦争から続く経済制裁、劣化ウラン 弾の放射能による影響で、特に何の罪も無い子供達を中心にすでに多くの苦しみを味わっていますが、日々の報道の中で一体どれほどの事 実が伝えられているでしょうか。アメリカを中心とする巨大資本に牛耳られたメディアが垂れ流す報道は、サダム・フセインに対する憎悪を掻き 立てるものばかりで、事実が相当歪んで伝えられていると思います。そこで、私はブッシュが「悪の枢軸」のひとつと呼ぶイラクという国を直接 自分の目で見て、同じ地球上に住む一市民としてイラクに住む人々を理解しようと思うのです。飽くまでも爆弾を落とされる人間の側に立ち、そ の恐怖を共にして、自らの身体を通じて世界を知りたいのです。 第二の目的は、「伝える」こと。私は、いま戦争を止めることが出来るのは国際世論の力しかないと思っています。世界規模の戦争反対の声は 日に日に高まっており、先日1月18日に世界各地で行われた反戦デモには、かつてないほどの規模で多数の人々が参加しました。アメリカで もサンフランシスコ２０万人、ワシントンＤＣは５０万人と、ベトナム反戦運動を上回る勢いだそうです。私も７千人が集まったとされる東京・日比 谷でのデモに参加し、無力感を克服して新しい希望を見つけることが出来ました。こうした声は、確実に各国政府に対する圧力になっていると 言っていいでしょう。ドイツ、フランスの両政府首脳がアメリカ政府の戦争には協力しないと宣言した背景には、こうした声の高まりがあると思い ます。いま、アメリカ、イギリス両政府は、この問題で頭を悩ませているはずです。この反戦運動の高まりを何とか抑えようと、躍起になってあり とあらゆる世論誘導キャンペーンを行っていますが、さほど成果が上がらず少々焦っているようにも見えます。表向き民主主義を掲げている以 上、大多数の国民の反対があれば戦争は出来ないのです。「ならず者国家には先制攻撃も辞さない」といって憚らず、国際法無視も甚だしい 真のならず者国家アメリカに対して、いまこそ市民による先制デモ攻撃が必要です。今現在も世界各国から様々な人々が続々とイラクに入り、 「人間の盾」になる覚悟で反戦を訴えています。私も彼らと共にその最前線に立ち、世界に向けて日本からの反戦の声を、自らの身体を賭けて 伝えたいのです。 そして最大の目的は、いまこの戦争を「止める」こと。こうして世界中からたくさんの人たちがイラクに入ることで、たとえ僅かでも戦争が起こる可 能性を減らすことが出来ると思うのです。例えばダライ・ラマやローマ法王などがいるところを、果たしてブッシュは攻撃できるでしょうか？ほん とうは、そうした世界に影響力を持つ人々にこそ是非行ってほしいのですが、結局誰もブッシュを止めることが出来なかったアフガン戦争の反 省も踏まえ、まずは自らが乗り込んで戦争回避の可能性を探ってみようと思うのです。決定的証拠の裏付もなく、圧倒的多数の世界の市民が 反対する今度の戦争は、絶対に起こしてはいけません。アメリカ政府は、フセインが隠し持つとされる大量破壊兵器が世界の平和にとって脅威 であり、武力を行使してでもその脅威を取り除かなければならないと吼えていますが、もしフセインがそれらの兵器を使う時があるとすれば、皮 肉なことにそれはアメリカ政府が武力を行使するまさにその時でしょう。まさにアメリカのブッシュ政権こそが世界にとっての最大最悪の脅威で はありませんか。そして、もし戦争になれば、中東はおろか、世界中が不安定になるのは火を見るより明らかです。おそらくアメリカ本土も、9・ 11など子供だましに過ぎなかったかのようなテロの嵐に見舞われ、それらはやがて第三次世界大戦への引き金にもなりかねません。泥沼に はまると、何かとんでもないことが起こりそうな予感がし ます。つまりアメリカは、先制攻撃ドクトリンに則り、核兵器を使うのではないかというこ とです。あの悲劇は、広島と長崎が最初で最後でなければいけません。こうした大惨事を未然に防ぐために、今まさに行われようとしている最 大級の犯罪、戦争という名の国家テロリズムを止めさせたいのです。 そして今回に限らず、全ての戦争を無効化するための非暴力による闘いの第一歩として、私は今イラクに行くのです。これは長い闘いになると 思います。そしてこれは地球上における人類という種の存亡を賭けた闘いです。9・11以降、この闘いは一層明らかになってきました。一方には 戦争中毒から抜け出せないアメリカ政府を筆頭とする各国政府と、それらと利益を共有する多国籍企業やマスメディアが、グローバリゼーション の名のもとに途上国に対する構造的暴力と搾取を繰り返し、テロの温床を作り出しています。「対テロ戦争」の御旗を掲げ、戦争という暴力を正 当化していくその末に待ち構えているのは、人間性と地球環境の破滅しかありえません。こうした文明を手にした野蛮人達によって、人類はや がてこの地球上の絶滅危惧種のひとつに数えられてしまうのでしょうか。 しかしその一方で、各地のNGO等を中心とする新しい市民の勢力がいま地球規模で結びつき、こうした破局へと向かう流れを変え、新しい流 れをつくり出そうとしています。初めはとても小さな流れでしたが、やがてその小さな流れは合流を繰り返し、いま、とても大きな流れとなりつつ あるのを感じます。一人一人が出来ることは限られていますが、その一人一人が新しい生命の流れにのって結びつくとき、その全体は部分の 総和を超え、人類は真に持続可能な社会を作り出すことが出来るはずです。私は、いまここに生かされているという驚きを原点に、これまで私 を育んでくれた全ての生きとし生けるものに対する絶大なる感謝の気持ちから、この新しい社会の実現に向けて残された命を費やす覚悟を決 めました。これは私にとって、非戦、非暴力による世界市民の革命であり、また、人類史を超えて地球上の生物進化史における新しい生命の 革命でもあるのです。 さてこの革命で倒すべき敵とは誰か？アメリカのブッシュ政権と名指しするのは簡単ですが、それでは彼らがフセインやビンラディンを悪魔と呼 ぶ単純な善悪二元論となんら変わりありません。戦争はいつも人の心の弱さがつくり出すもの。私にとって倒すべき敵とは、己の中に巣食って いた心の弱さでした。その己の弱さに打ち克ち、おかしいものにはおかしいと声を出すことでこの革命の第一歩を踏み出した私は、さらなる前 進を求め、今イラクに向かいます。 親愛なるみなさん。願わくは、私がイラクに行くということを、出来るだけたくさんの人に伝えて欲しいのです。そして、いま世界が我々の未来に とって非常に重要な岐路に立っていることを、より身近な問題として考え、発言し、真の世界平和を希求する国際世論というかたちでの後方支 援をお願いしたい。この戦争は止められます。 愛をこめて YATCH Dear Friends, I have finally made a decision to go to Iraq as a member of IraqInternational Citizen Research Group that is organized by a Japanese NGO,from the 16th of Feb for about 2 weeks in order to stop a possible war ledby the US Bush administration. Some may ask me ‘Why now?’ because of the current tense situation aroundthe Gulf. My answer is ‘because of right now’. I must act right now toavert a war. Mainly, I have three purposes for this participation. The first is ‘To know’ the reality of Iraq. Although every day we see the news about Iraq, wecan hardly know the daily lives of Iraqi citizens, because must media areenthusiastic over showing some political games about the UN weapons inspections and preparations for war of US military personnel in and around the Gulf. But we should remember that once a war breaks out, citizens must be the first victims. Iraqi citizens, especially children have already been suffering from the economic sanction and the radiation effects of depleted uranium bullets, what are called ‘quiet massacre ’ since the Gulf War. However, how much do we know such tragedy from daily news? The news about Iraq from US mass media tend to be biased against Saddam Hussein and only toexaggerate how cruel he has been, that is to say ‘Propaganda’. I know warmongers want us to regard all Iraqi citizens as cruel as Hussein. Nonsense. Therefore I want to see the reality of so-called one of ‘the Axis of Evil’ through my own eyes and communicate with Iraqi citizens as the same citizens living on the earth. I eager to know the world through my five senses standing by the people under the threat of bombing. The second one is ‘To tell’ what I see the reality of Iraq to the world Now I strongly believe that only international public opinion can stop war. Day by day the number of people who join the worldwide antiwar movement has dramatically been increasing. There were massive antiwar demonstrations around the world at the same time on the 18th of Jan. As for the US, tens of thousand citizens joined the demonstrations in San Francisco and Washington, which is almost the same scale as the Vietnam antiwar movement. I also joined the 1.18 demonstration with about 7,000 citizens in Tokyo, and then I overcame a sense of helplessness in my mind and could find a new hope. These voices must be a strong pressure on every government. For example, both leaders of Germany and France said ‘No’ to Bush. Now both leaders of UK and US must be in trouble by such voices. They seem to get irritated and to rush their propaganda. As long as they stand in the name of democracy, I believe it's impossible for them to ignore what the majority of people say. Now we need a kind of pre-emptive ‘Demo’ attack against the king of rogue states that insists that they don’t hesitate pre-emptive attacks against rogue states, which is completely against the international law. Even now lots of people from various countries are entering Iraq and acting antiwardemonstrations, in spite of a risk of being ‘Human Shields’. Therefore in front with them, I want to tell what I see in Iraq and appeal the antiwar voices from Japan to the world at the risk of my life. The most important purpose is ‘To stop’ this possible war now. I believe we can reduce a possibility of war by entering Iraq. Can Bush bomb a place where there is for instance Dalai Lama or Pope John Paul II? Actually I have been longing for such important persons to go since the Afghan war 2001, butfirst I will go and seek a possibility of avoiding war. We have to avert this war that will cause a devastating humanitarian catastrophe by all means. The Bush administration says that Hussein hides weapons of mass destruction, which is a grave threat to world peace, however if Hussein has such weapons and if there is a time he uses them, ironically it is the very time Bush attacks him. In a very real sense, the US Bush administration is the gravest threat to world peace. If war breaks out, it is obvious that not only the Middle East, but the whole world will be a highly volatile. In the US, they will face a storm of terror attacks, which is much more serious than 9.11, and these chaotic situations can trigger off the Third World-War. I am deeply concerned that the US might use nuclear weapons according to the Pre-emptive Doctrine. Hiroshima and Nagasaki should be the first and the last tragedy of nuclear weapons in human history forever. To prevent such humanitarian catastrophes, I want to stop this massive crime and state terrorism, what is called ‘War’. I am going to Iraq not only for stopping war this time, but also as a first step of my non-violence fight for invalidating all war on this planet. I know it will be a long-term fight. And our future as human-species is up to the result of this fight. Since 9.11, this fight has enormously been becoming more intense all over the world. On the one hand, in the name of ‘Globalization’, so-called ‘War addicts’ centering the US administration including some multi-national company and mass media and so on, those who are sharing the interest have been continuing the systematic violence and exploitation in the Third World, and planting the seeds of terrorism all over the world. If they continue to justify the ongoing violence and the state terrorism under the flag of ‘War on Terror’, there will only be humanitarian and environmental catastrophes. Will human beings be counted as one of the endangered species on this planet because of such barbarians who misused civilization? However one the other hand, we can see some new citizens centering NGOs in various regions. They are trying to change the current of going to catastrophes into some new hopeful currents. I feel each small current has rapidly been connecting with each other and becoming a great current like river. Each individual can do only a very little thing, but when each individual connects with each other on the new current of life, the whole current will be greater than the amount of the parts. We human beings canbuild up a truly sustainable society. I have decided to spend my remaininglife for building such a new society, based on a surprise that now I am here on this plant and a feeling of appreciation to all living things that have been giving their lives for me. This is a new World Citizen Revolution by non-war and non-violence, and also a new Life Revolution in the history of the evolution of life over the human history. Who is the enemy of us? It is easy to say ‘Bush’, but it is a dangerous dualistic idea that is the same logic as Bush calls Hussein and Bin Laden‘Devils’. War is always created by human weakness in our mind. My enemy was the weakness that was nested in my mind. I have finally overcome my weakness and begun the first step of the Revolution by taking part in demonstrations and saying ‘nonsense is nonsense’. Now I am going to Iraq for moving forward. Dear my friends, please tell the fact that your friend is going to Iraq to stop this possible war to your loved ones and your friends as many as you could. And I hope you consider that now the world is facing a crucial turning point for our future, and say your opinion to the world. I need your support as an International opinion longing for genuine world peace. We can stop this war.
