If you could contact a local radio station, that would be great. I have first hand experience of that working really well.

OP, /u/doctor_the sent this link to you, I think this might be one of your best bets.

http://www.organindia.org/liver-transplant-2/ (it lists hospitals where liver transplants can be possible, I urge you to check this first.)

and another site about organ donation

http://www.organindia.org/ngos-in-organ-donation/

Are you still with us? We could help more if you provide us with updates on the situation, have you found anything that can help yet?

Spelled me wrong mate, and I'm not really a doctor either. Just trying to help :)

He might be binge surfing(extensively searching the internet) still, not really the right time to reddit you know... I hope he found some help already.

Edit: wrong choice of words.

[–]Herman999999999Modi Saab Kenobi 1

OP please take a look at this website if you haven't already: http://www.organindia.org/ngos-in-organ-donation/

http://www.organindia.org/liver-transplant-2/ this also has a list of hospitals which does liver transplants in India. You should also contact your nearby medical college, they will for sure have more info regarding this. Wish I could help more, upvoted for visibility.

OP - Please post your contact details in this thread. I am sure you won't be checking your reddit account frequently during this time. If someone wants to contact you, they must need a way.

Contact the MOHAN Foundation. They are well-known in the area of organ transplants.

Tamilnadu is your best bet. It leads the nation in organ transplant with an average much higher than the national average. Check TRANSTAN and try to contact them. http://www.dmrhs.org/tnos/

As someone else suggested, best bet for emergency transplantation is a HLA matched family member who is willing to donate a part of the liver.

Good luck man. I don't know how to help. Have upvoted for visibility.

My friend's father had a liver transplant 6months back. In the Global hospital, Hyderabad. The hospital authorities had a liver procured from a cadaver. The cost is around 40lacs for the whole procedure. And you have to wait untill they find a suitable dead case whose relatives are willing to donate the dead person's organs too.

Ya we are still looking for an organ right now neway ty for the info

Upvoted for visibility. Your message is not very clear as to what sort of help you need, i.e. blood or liver.

Perhaps you could call Microsoft and many of your countrymen (and women) could help. They are close by.

I dont understand the human body above the waist much, but I have heard it's best to have some blood relative(your friend perhaps) give up a bit of their liver. Liver is the only organ of the human body that regenerates. Sooner your friend and his dad both will have normal livers.

Dude, the liver only regenerates, the lobes supplying the blood to liver doesn't. You have two lobes and while donating liver, you'll have to donate liver with one lobe. So your other lobe will increase in size to compensate for the other one. You can donate liver only once in the lifetime.

To sum it up, the host or the donor will never have a normal liver in their lifetime.

TIL.

But can they both lead normal lives if they follow a proper diet and take care of themselves?

it is never a normal life if you have to follow a proper diet and take care of yourself!

[–]I_Like_Pink_Tops 7ポイント8ポイント  (3子コメント)

Nope, the host will have to take immunosuppressants for the rest of his life, so that the body doesn't reject the donated organ. The donor will have to take care of himself a lot too and both will have some serious dietary restriction, medicines will have to be thoroughly checked too as some might cause trouble for them.

Call me selfish, but I think donating a liver while alive is a stupid thing to do and ones who need liver transplant must be younger than 25, or else it's just living on borrowed time.

[–]janzboiWhat macha?

Thanks for the info bro. Appreciate it.

Its not selfish. Whats right ,is right.

TIL. As a low-scorer in biology, the only lobes I knew were the ones in my head.

[–]I_Like_Pink_Tops 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

Haha, I understand. I was a sucker at mathematics, so I had to love biology. :D

Is there a donor ready? Or are they doing a cadaver transplantation?

Not sure why you are being downvoted for asking a question out of curiosity.
