Buckling up, making popcorn. Can you provide a diagram of the driveway? It might help us visualize the layout better. MS Paint works.

Adding one now! It's hand drawn, since I'm at work and that's the best I can do.

Wait, your grandmother is cut off from her driveway? Is your grandmother land locked?

[–]LadyShipwreck[S] 2ポイント3ポイント  (1子コメント)

She does have a secret gate in the back of her property, so she can park a few streets away, walk over, and get in that way. But in terms of driving and parking on her property? More or less!

Mentioning Landlocking is basically the only thing that trumps easements in this subreddit, by a huge margin even.

Keep us updated! We want to celebrate your victory with you.

How do the drivers get around the tree in the middle of the lane, if it's so narrow that two cars can't pass each other? And how is she enforcing this no drive ban? Has she placed barriers? Or is it a verbal thing?

Blame my bad drawing skills- the tree near the opening of the lane should be more off to the right side, and it's considerably thinner than the big honkin' tree at the end of the lane. So, passable by one car at a time but only just, and a huge pain in the ass. There's some reason why it can't be cut down, according to the town, but I can't think of what it is at the moment.

So far, just verbal. She leans off her porch and screams at anyone who isn't on her approved list of turners.

The odds of this are probably nonexistent, but does your grandma have a survey showing the property lines for her/Lisa's house? Whose property does the lane fall on? I'm assuming it cuts across multiple property lines. You can probably pull a copy of Lisa's deed from the county to make sure the easement is recorded on it. It's not fatal if it isn't, but makes things easier.

Some counties have GIS services where you can view the plats online, although it isn't as accurate as a survey.

As far as I know, the lane cuts across multiple property lines. I don't think she has a survey, but I'll pass on the info about the GIS services and the deed (I live up in MA, so not terribly close).

I'm not sure the easement would be recorded on the deed...it was more of an understood thing with all of the residents of the lane. Good to know it wouldn't be fatal if it's not on there, though!

What does the municipality do when it snows?
