PS4 version is Unreal Engine 4, and Level-5 is involved. The demo was a ridiculously early build, to a point where I can't believe it was even shown, but it was gorgeous all the same. The player could jump around and stuff, so it seems like platforming might be an element in the field.

NX was just name dropped, holy shit, that's Nintendo's next console codename. Dunno what the context was, but they totally said it. Edit DQX and DQXI coming to NX, clarified on twitter https://twitter.com/johntv/status/625960578083729409

I was digging the PS4 version but when they announced the 3DS one my jaw dropped. They really outdid themselves! It's like they created two different games here.

Sounds like its similar to Ni no Kuni then, had a PS3 game and a different, smaller game for the 3DS, set in the same world but with a different plot.

I'm a big fan of the chibi art style, I think it suits dragon quest especially really well.

What a way to start the day!

I really like the retro look they are going for for the 3DS version, I may pick that up after my PS4 playthrough, just to get a different perspective. In terms of the 3DS version getting localized, I believe IX was released late into the life of the DS, so perhaps if Nintendo wanted it to happen, they would make it happen. They could publish the game themselves just like with IX.

For some reason, I do not like the look of the Protagonist. Maybe the look will grow on me with time. Won't stop me from enjoying the crap out of it.

Now I just need to get a PS4 ;)

The Ni No Kuni analogy someone made is pretty astute.

Interesting decision to go with dual versions, but I have to ask - does anyone really care about the New3DS at this point? I haven't even heard anything about it since that Xenoblade port.

The retro feel of the 3ds version is always nice, but I'm gravitating towards the PS4 version despite not having one. I hope they don't limit themselves by the 3ds' capabilities for the PS4 version, though.

You mean, like not opting to put in certain features because it's not supported by the 3DS?

Was there an instance in which the 3DS was worse off in terms of game features? I know that a lot of games that were ported to the 3DS were limited by the graphics, but I don't know about their gameplay record.

That said, I personally doubt that it'll be limiting in any way, since one's specially made for the 3DS and the other, for the PS4. You aren't looking at a studio who's stuck in between trying to push the 3DS or downgrade the Vita.

I'm so glad to have seen what Square was willing to show off for both versions of the game. I'm, personally, more pumped for the PS4/possibly NX version of the game as I truly enjoy a good and epic console JRPG. However, the 3DS version also seems to be very charming (and I'll probably end up getting a copy of both).

I watched the playthrough of the PS4 version and it looks beautiful and charming at the same time. The cartoonish characters and the beautiful setting. This game looks awesome.

On a side note, I hope that the news of the NX getting a release means that Square-Enix is willing to port games over to the NX for release as well. Meaning that we might see FFXV and FFVII:Remake on the NX. With Monolith Soft as a first party for Nintendo, I suspect the NX could be a very good contender for best JRPG console. Or at least give PS4 a run this generation.

I haven't been following much about the NX, but is it really that secret? It feels a lot like Gamecube and the "Dolphin" rumors in that while we don't know technical details or anything like that, we're still hearing about games that are being developed for it.

I don't think confirming a game will be coming to it would rock the boat too much.

Dude, if your PC is powerful enough to do it, I highly recommend running DQ VIII on a PS2 emulator. The game looks fantastic. Don't wait for some port that will never come.

I really like how you can control the bottom screen with the dpad and the top one with the analog stick. That is the best usage of a second screen i have ever seen.

Not sure about the PS4 version, but the 3DS version has a 2D retro version of the game on the bottom screen and it looks to be traditional turn based combat. I'm in love.

Director is Takeshi Uchikawa. Previously worked on DQIX.

Sugiyama was asked to do the music from scratch with the feel of DQ1 in mind because XI is supposed to be a express a rebirth/fresh start feel in the game.
