Posting pictures of the keys makes them equally useless.

Only if you know where the lock is. I could post an album of every one of the 3125 possible Kwikset keys, and nobody's security would be affected in the least.

Could you explain what you think would happen and why you think it's likely?

I can only think of people using that image to create a copy of the key, and then using that key to open the lock in question. But the amount of people who would recognise your keys, be able to create a key from a picture, would want to gain access, and would be willing to do so, is so far from rendering the key as useless that I must be missing something.

Well, all of those don't have to be the same person. Really, all you need is someone who wants access, and can track down OP's posts (pretty much any stalker). Then, that person takes the picture to someone with the ability and willingness to copy the keys from the picture.

I never said anything was likely.

We warn people against picking locks that are in use all the time, even though it is actually rare for picking to cause a problem.

Yet, people cautioned against posting pictures of what turns out to be another person's keys is downvoted?
