Japan to export Aegis software to US
Japan's government has decided to export software used for the country's Aegis-equipped destroyers to the United States.
Japan's National Security Council made the decision on Thursday at a ministerial meeting attended by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Defense Minister Gen Nakatani.
The software for the Aegis air defense system displays images of vessels, aircraft and ballistic missiles around destroyers. The ministers also approved the export of related parts.
The software export would be Japan's first under defense equipment transfer principles adopted last year.
Japan's Maritime Self-Defense Force is scheduled to introduce 2 more Aegis-equipped destroyers using such software by March 2021.
