Is this anchored to the floor in any way? I like the idea but if its not structurally sound, its useless as a railing system.

OP's boyfriend here. It is anchored to the floor with some pretty long screws(not sure of the length she used). The railing that was there when we bought the house was extremely wobbly and was a deathtrap waiting to happen.

I've stumbled drunk and high into the bookshelf railing a few times, walking into it in the dark and it's totally fine, that thing doesn't budge.
