Apparently, they did. I don't have a source on me, but ELFs are saying they talked about how awkward her age made it all in a press interview. Supposedly, Leeteuk even added that her mom is his age.

I saw a documentary (Girl Model) that follows a 13 year old model from Siberia. Gives you an idea of how this 14 year old ended up in Korea. Tldr of documentary: Modelling agents and ex models trawl Russia and neighboring countries for new models. The best go to Paris and New York, the rest go to Asia. And the models are always in debt and unsupervised. They constantly need jobs, any modelling job, to advance their career or to send money home. It was... kinda dark.

Probably XD. As an actor (mostly extra work), I can understand that getting roles is hard and that this might be her big break, but come on... Plus, while I didn't go in her social media, someone said that she posted pictures of herself in provocative clothes that someone had to buy for her (it was lingerie) , so I can tell that her parents were at least willing to let her do crazy stuff like this before she even got this opportunity.

This is pretty standard in the western world. Female models tend to start younger as they have a tendency to peak out by their mid twenties.

she wasn't just modeling...she was the main actress. she kissed a suju member and they were singing inappropriate lyrics about her. a western music video would get tons of negative attention for this too. 14 is more than 10 years away from a woman in her mid twenties, there's no excuse to not find a woman of an appropriate age.

Nobody knew her age until people started digging into her social media. That tells me she did a good job playing the role. She and Gu Hara look the same age, but they are 10 years apart. Is this really worse than the company peddling idols that look 14 as sexual objects?

the role didn't involve much actual acting though, she 'played the role well' because they dressed her and filmed her (i.e. filming her thighs) as if she were twice her age. looking mature doesn't mean she should be treated like an adult, that kind of thinking is really harmful to young women.

i do think 14 year old idols in the industry is extremely fucked up. i really wish idols couldn't debut until they were 18. but at the same time let's not pretend this is the same as dani's MV debut, this girl was definitely sexualized in a way that korean girls in kpop aren't.

I hate to point out the obvious but kpop has always been full of teenagers. Sulli and Krystal debuted in f(x) when they were (gasp!) 14. 4minute Sohyun, Kara Jiyoung, and Miss A Suzy all debuted around the same age.

Yikes. While someone mentioned age of consent above is 14... it is still very awkward if she's doing overly sexual (though pretend things) to guys who could be her dad if her mom's Leeteuk's age. If the group was like early 20s then might not be as big of a creep factor.... D:
