I'd imagine the mouse could chew through the thin plastic in no time, making this trap useless unless you're watching it all the time.

Can confirm. I own pet rats and I put a frozen bottle of water in their cage to cool em down. They just chew through it and get their cage all soaked.

Rodents. Idiots the lot of em.

Bow down low to our rodent overlords!!!

Bow down low to our rodent overlords!!!

Bow to the Queen of Slime, the Queen of Filth, the Queen of Putrescence. Boo. Boo. Rubbish. Filth. Slime. Muck. Boo. Boo. Boo.

That's what makes it so humane.

Nice job reading the other comment and rephrasing it

[–]Britches_and_Hose 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

Where is the other comment? I read through the comments before and didn't find anything mentioning chewing through the plastic.

This guy keeps his desk pretty clean, mine looks like a war zone sometimes.

Mine looks like Michael's craft store and a game shop had dirty sex all over it and didn't clean up when they were done.

He probably cleaned it for the video

I thought it was going to be instant regret for the OP and we'd see a GIF of the mouse getting crushed and guts flying everywhere. Was pleasantly surprised.

It's so humane! I love it.

I bought humane traps once because my daughter made me. So in wanders an entire fucking family of mice, mom, dad, babies... all stuck in there. So now i have this trap and what the fuck do you do with it? Let them go a a few houses down so they come right back? No I ended up just throwing them in a bucket of water cause I couldn't figure out what to do with them.

TLTR; just kill them.

Varmints gonna varmint. Spread disease, procreate, spread disease, procreate. Might as well. I would have put regular traps in the humane ones.

I owned rats. Best way to put them down is to put them in bin with a smaller bin of dry ice with some water in it. Wait for the gas to build up and drop them in. Painless, least stressfull way to go. I miss my pet rat, dude was chill. For those wondering why I put him down, because he was riddled with cancer and was suffering.

Ah yes the Mousewitz approach. Did you transport them there on your model train set?

Yes, but just one car attached. Smushed them all into the one car.

Are you kidding? CO2 asphyxiation is incredibly painful.

As long as you preload the camber with co2 and dont have the dry ice accessable to the animal its fine. Euthanasia via co2 is painfull if there the co2 content is below 20%. If its high the animal will expire in 1-2 minites effortlessly and painlessly. You can use baking soda and vinigar or co2 cartridges as well. Now the American Veterinary Association frowns on using dry ice because its hard to control the %. However if you let the dry ice sit in there for a a while its pretty hard to screw it up. Google how to use dry ice for euthanaizing rats, plenty of people do it.

I usually drive all of 5 minutes away from my house and let them go in some field somewhere away from houses.

You can release them further away instead of killing them. If you're going to kill them, at least do it humanely.

They come back.

What is a humane way to kill something? Buy them a drink first?

Quickly, and without pain or distress.

First question is why? What difference does it make?

Second question, is there a way to die that isn't stressful? Maybe while getting a blow job or something but outside of that dieing pretty much sucks.

Third, how on earth can I gauge what would stress out a mouse? Is poison or a trap that snaps it's neck better or worse? How should I know that?

Is it the physical pain you are concerned with or the psychological? If psychological how do we know a mouse is self aware enough to have psychological torment or even understand pain the way a human does?

Now see how existential we have gotten over a fucking mouse, our time is better spent finding a cure to cancer and just killing the little fuckers.

FINE, /u/penlies, JUST FUCKING STOMP THEM WITH YOUR LOAFERS.

That would probably be quick and painless for a mouse. Quite humane.

And messy. Very messy.

Boots would be better.

OK, the two methods of culling vermin (poison vs trap):

Warfarin thins the blood. It's great for preventing stroke. And usually it wouldn't kill, except that rats and mice are constantly squeezing through tiny gaps, causing microscopic ruptures in the capillaries. Ordinarily not a problem, but if your blood doesn't clot it causes massive haemorrhage (sp?). Bleeding to death is actually a minimum stress way to die.

Neck snap (cervical dislocation) is a recognised humane method of killing in most of the world. Aside from a lot of reflex convulsing, twitching and so on death is very rapid indeed. Usually it's done in combination with concussion or stunning so that the mouse or rat is unconscious (to minimise stress, of course). Without the stunning there is a few seconds of pain, terror and distress.

On balance, warfarin poisoning is probably less stressful and more humane, essentially the animal will go into shock, then fall asleep, then die.

The thing about the traps that snap is that it'll just snap when it's triggered, doesn't matter what triggered it. So it's not very often that you'll get a clean snap on the neck or the head; leaving the rat to either starve out because it's leg is trapped, or bleed out internally from it snapping on it's body.

Looks at username, Looks like i have found my mouse trap.

That is actually helpful, appreciated.

You care?

I immediately regret replying to someone who thinks that mice don't experience pain

1) Buy a gun

2) Buy lots of tannerite

3) Place mice in humane trap over lots of tannerite.

4) Stand at a safe distance.

5) Aim at tannerite

6) Send those rat bastards off with a bang.

Your time is better spent curing cancer? Yeah... I'll come back to you on that and see how you're doing.

First question is why? What difference does it make?

Would you rather be tourtured to death or die peacefully in your sleep? That's the difference.

Second question, is there a way to die that isn't stressful?

See option 2 above.

Third, how on earth can I gauge what would stress out a mouse?

Mice are mammals. It's a pretty safe assumption that mice will find certain situations stressful, as we would. Being set on fire, for example, would cause a mouse distress.

Is it the physical pain you are concerned with or the psychological?

Physical pain, of course.

Now see how existential we have gotten over a fucking mouse

You, got existential. Ain't no we about it.

Judging by your other comments, you don't seem to give a shit about animals and that's honestly sad.

If it makes you feel better I give less of shit about you...

If I told you that you could choose between dying immediately this moment without realizing it or having someone kidnap you and force you to drown, what would you choose?

Empathy, you dick.

Did the mouse display any empathy when he invaded my home, ate my food, and shit on my floor. If you came to my house and did that I'd throw your ass in a bucket too!

That's not how empathy works.

I am not a mouse, so no I won't empathize with one.

I'm sure dying in a massive panic while grasping for air and filling your lungs with water is a great way to go. /s

You could literally end them a million other ways that would be faster.

Or you know, if you're a nice person I guess you could drive out to a country road and leave them in the tall grass

My dad would wait in the dark with a wooden spoon and knock them out then sweep them into a half full sink to drown them. One second, yummy peanut butter- next second, sleepy swimmy time.

God forbid a fucking rat suffer.

When did we all become such fucking pussies that we give two fucks what some animal feels? What is wrong with everybody? Animals are not people, not even your fucking dog. Its affection for you is an inherited trait for survival, it's not real, stop trying to replace human affection with artificial facsimiles. /rant

Some of us have (or do) own rats as pets. Would you care about your pet suffering? I bet you would. Having some empathy for animals is normal.

What is a humane way to kill something?

Fast and painless instead of with minutes of panic and pain.

Oh so like a fucking mouse trap that snaps it's neck?! So maybe they should label THOSE humane instead of the ones that trap it thereby educing panic?

If most people would use "humane" traps only to kill the animals slower than via neck snap, then yes. But normal people buy humane traps to not kill the mouse instead of killing it slower. A lot of people also forget about the trap and the animals die even more painfully, but that's another topic.

That's not humane enough, you need to set the mouse family up with steady source of income and make sure the job comes with full benefits and a 401k. Make sure the rat hole is in a good school district and the crime is low on that end of town. Then maybe take them to Ikea so they can own full sets of furniture. How do you expect them to live without the babies having bunk beds that can't double as an office area. YOU MONSTER!

Fuck that, they eat shit and piss everywhere and I'm suppose to walk my happy ass a half mile away just so more can do the same thing. These people would probably cry over dead mosquitoes. Snap the neck and end their shit, their last thought will be "oh food" SNAP! If I was eat shitting and pissing in someone else's house I'd be okay with that conclusion. "Aw man large pizza with extra cheese and pepperoni" SNAP!

Its your house handle them how you want.

I've pretty much always had the same opinion as you, but nobody likes to hear it.

I think that everyone else's reaction to his/your opinion isn't because of the opinion itself but more the way he went about explaining it..

I would rather get trapped somewhere with a bit of panic and be released in a field than get my neck snapped...

Pest and disease control inherently doesn't factor in whether the creature wants to live or not.

Well to everyone else's credit, I'm a dick about it.

[–]done_holding_back 5ポイント6ポイント  (8子コメント)

They're labeled humane on the assumption that you aren't going to use their captivity to be inhumane. If you're throwing them into a bucket of water, then yes, snapping their neck is more humane. The product is only as inhumane as you make it.

Is this not all common sense?

They're labeled humane so they can charge more for the traps.

So removing them from the only home they have ever known, throwing them into the wild away from shelter and food allowing them to be hunted and then eaten alive by birds and cats is more humane than my quick bucket?

To the people downvoting him, he's got a point. House mice aren't designed to live in the wild. They're designed to survive in houses. Hence House mice.

It'd be like aliens capturing a Human and then releasing him on Mars. 'Cause, ya know! Now he can live free and die wild!

If they're lucky, they'll be dead for the feeding session.

Are you talking about domesticated mice? Because then yes you're right, but wild mice know how to stay alive in the wild.

A horrifying natural death by predation seems to be preferable, judging by the down votes you received. Ignorance is indeed bliss.

Or even better, abandon existential concerns for mice entirely. Just kill the stupid little fuckers any way that's convenient.

They don't come back if you take them far enough away.

Drown them in whiskey.

I caught a mouse while wearing gloves and crushed him lol, about as instant as you can get

Dump em in a field so some owls/hawks can have a nice snack :)

We moved into a new house and caught 3 the first day. Took them away from the cats (unharmed) and relocated them to a churchyard about 4 miles away.

I'm sure something ate them soon after.

Get a cat. It's the circle of life, and even if the cat is (like mine) generally too slow and doesn't kill them when it catches them, they decide it's easier to hit up other houses.

Unless it's like my cat, who's only interested in them up until the point when they stop moving, at which point he just leaves them strewn around, half-dead and unable to move. That's no good.

I think most well-fed cats do this. It's a present or to teach you how to hunt, too.

I like it when my cat acts as a deterrent. And when he eats bugs. I like that.

[–]T-Luv 1

Just get a few snakes and put them in the bucket with the mice. Snakes eat the mice, problem solved, no more mice.

Then find an ingenious snake trap...

Perhaps a bucket of some sort...

It might not be safe for the snake.

and now you have a snake problem...

[–]T-Luv -1

A mongoose or two will solve that issue.

but what solves the mongoose problem?

[–]T-Luv 0

A stork could eat it no problem. And when there's no more mongoose to eat, it will fly away to find another source of food.

A-fucking-plus, mate!

[–]Xaila 0

Snake owner here. Rats (and even mice sometimes) can really beat up a snake if they're in a confined area. This is one of the reasons I only feed mine frozen/thawed rodents.

No all the other animal lovers in this thread would think it's unacceptable to kill them that way. If they see the snake, or if the snake bites them it might cause them distress. Too inhumane boycott snakes.

Hey now, you let that steep a couple months and you got your self a nice bucket o' mouse liquor.

I'm sure with your fully sized human brain you might've had the idea of releasing them further away than a few houses down. You killed them because you couldn't be bothered to be humane.

That's why nothing beats the classic neck-snapping mouse trap that's been used for years.

what is wrong with people today?

they are mice ffs.

am i on crazy pills or something?

I am now out of spite voting GOP, denouncing all social activism. this shit has to stop.

It's reddit. Where cats and dogs are more important than the lives of people. Now mice too!

Considering how many diseases they carry, I say kill em all and let the mouse gods sort em out.

Actually, my cat brought in a couple severly-injured-looking mice and my friend found and located some local organization that was willing to take them in. So other options exist.

That is fucking retarded.

$10 says they were used as feeders for someones pet snake.

Why not use a real mouse trap?
