What do you do when a user is abusing his spam privileges and reporting things repeatedly that are not spam? I have one person who has gotten over a hundred people banned from my sub simply for making a single post there.

According to the wiki at https://www.reddit.com/wiki/faq#wiki_what_constitutes_spam.3F , bullet point two is why those users fall under spam. The admins don't appear to differentiate based on why someone might be posting.

My guess is that the admins remain hands-off from actively endorsing those kinds of subs, so they probably don't want to tacitly endorse them either by making exceptions to the rules for them.

It really sucks. They only get banned because he reports them and then the bot does it. Over 100 people have been banned in the last month due to one person. He is singling out my subreddit. It is just not right.

I don't think it's just your sub. Several of those users made similar posts in multiple subs with the same requests. It's the lack of participation in the greater Reddit community that makes them stand out.

Some are but most aren't. He absolutely targets my subreddit. He goes through it daily.

Do you believe the admins should make yours a special case, or that the user should be forced to stop? He's exercising the absolute same right all Reddit users have.

You have to look at the context of all of Reddit and not just your subs in understanding that policy on the site has to be applied equally across all subs and all users.

Imagine someone you don't know e-mails you and asks you to give them money. You proceed to ask your friends, turns out nobody else knows them either. You have no proof of their name, their location, or their honesty, just the begging.

How is that different from someone registering on reddit to beg for money? Spam is kinda subjective, sure, and I know you are protective of your users, but speaking for myself, that is clearly spam and I don't want to see it anywhere. Thank you, person that bothers to report them.

So my entire subreddit is spam all of a sudden? No one is emailing anyone. It is what my subreddit does. We help people. We have been doing it for five years and because of one person doesn't like it, all of a sudden it is spam. And it's people just asking for advice as well. They are spammers now too?

I never said your entire subreddit is spam; most people there are established redditors, and will not be banned even if someone submits them to /r/spam.

No one is emailing anyone

Sure it's a different medium, but it still lands on my frontpage and I would rather not have it there.

And it's people just asking for advice as well. They are spammers now too?

No I don't mind anyone asking for advice from a new account. I do mind begging for money though.

because of one person doesn't like it, all of a sudden it is spam

One person does not determine what is spam. This 'one person' you are blaming everything on is only reporting what he believes to be spam in the manner set up to do so. It seems that if these 100 or so people have been banned then the person reporting them is correct in doing so

Actually that is not the case. he reports it. And their bot shadow bans them. No one is reviewing these cases.

Whose bot shadow bans them?

Edit, in order to go ahead and get to the point, I'll answer for you, it is the admins bot is it not? Are you trying to insinuate that the admins are unable to program a bot according to their rules for what constitutes a scammer? Do you really think they are that stupid?

Ye it is the administrators' bot. And yes they are unable to differentiate that these are not spam.

You keep trying to insist that they are not spamming, but this is only your opinion. And while you are entitled to it, you have given no actual evidence that they aren't spammers. That may be your first step in trying to convince other people that you are correct

When one user (namely /u/backpackwayne) tells anyone who is shadowbanned that they are shadowbanned for spam and repeatedly names the person (that they sound like they have a personal problem with) reporting them, isn't that trying to circumvent the rules of Reddit and harassment by pointing potentially angry people at that user? It is systematic negative attention.

The Reddit rules says If your contribution to reddit consists mostly of submitting links to a site(s) that you own or otherwise benefit from in some way, and additionally if you do not participate in discussion, or reply to peoples questions, regardless of how many upvotes your submissions get, you are a spammer. If over 10% of your submissions and conversation are your own site/content/affiliate links, you're almost certainly a spammer.

People who only post to benefit are spammers by the rules of reddit.

You do not decide who is a spammer and who is not. That is the rule for everyone on the whole site.

People who post all over reddit to discuss things and post in Assistance, RAOP, food_pantry are not spammers by the rules of reddit.

To point potentially angry people at the same user over and over saying that it is their fault that something bad happened to them sounds like harassment too.

You had to make a brand new account to say that?

So I will assume this is you. (namely /u/youhatemeandihateyou) You report people that are not spammers and they get shadowbanned. I tell these people to contact the administrator to get their account back and let them know who has abused their spam reporting privileges. And you think it is you that is being harassed? You are the one that is harassing people. You have gotten over 100 people shadowbanned just for making a post in my subreddit. And you are the one being harassed?

I'm sure the admins can look and see who reported them as spammers, there is no need for you harass another redditor in order for them to find out

Yes I am sure they can but they don't. I am amazed you think I am the one doing the harassing. This person is getting people shadow banned every day in my subreddit. And I am the one harassing him? He is harassing people. He is abusing his spam rpeorting privileges. I can contact them in regards to the shadowbanned person and tell them what is happening. Only the person being shadow banned can.

This person is getting people shadow banned every day

This person is reporting possible scammers every day. FTFY

And as I posted already, if they are getting banned, then it seems obvious that he is doing the correct thing

Congrats on finally getting the username mention of the spam reporter spelled correctly! It took you a few weeks to figure out how to copy paste it, huh?
