Good idea, but please be careful https://www.reddit.com/r/tifu/comments/3cua1j/tifu_by_almost_killing_my_dog/ /u/whatishhappeningg had a bad experience that I wouldn't want anyone to go through.

There have been a few cases where the dog has just flipped the dial to full heat by jumping/moving around so it's risky no matter what.

You assume all cars have dials. For most new ones it's a button that would be hard to press or its on a touch screen

I would quite like to build a temperature sensor that both displays the internal temperature to outside observers and will SMS you the temp every 3 minutes so you are reassured that all is OK. It would stick on the drivers window or somewhere similar.

This is a bizarre subject for me. Why bring your dog with you if you're going to refuse to open windows for them? If you're going to bring your dog and leave the dog in your car you should open windows. If you're uncomfortable doing that then don't bring your dog. I don't care if you have A/C. It's so easy for the dog to bang into something and change it to heating.

Even with the window cracked the heat can build. If you had it opened enough to keep it at least the same temperature as outside there would be enough room for a) the dog to get out and b) some asshole to try to get in, get bitten, and then sue you. I get the risk of the dog hitting the dial, but to say it's easy is a bit much.

Here's an idea, don't bring your dog to run errands. They're dogs. They can handle being away from you.

Never travelled with a pet before I'm assuming?
