What.. the hell.. happened? How did we go from /u/yishan and this beautiful, masterful comment to what happened today?

I was promised bans! I was promised reddit might actually get better. Instead they are just giving coontown and whoever follows them adblock and calling it a day.

But... the most delicious part of this is that on at least two separate occasions, the board pressed /u/ekjp Ellen Pao to outright ban ALL the hate subreddits in a sweeping purge.

Where is the damn purge?

Well, now she's gone (you did it reddit!), and /u/spez has the moral authority as a co-founder to move ahead with the purge. We tried to let you govern yourselves and you failed, so now The Man is going to set some Rules. Admittedly, I can't say I'm terribly upset.

It's not fair. I fell for it and now I'm just so damn let down.

And this isn't going to stop people from losing their minds over the lose of their frozen peaches. It's certainly not going to stop the racists who hang out on the private subreddits from using defaults like /r/videos as a stormfront recruitment hotspot every chance they can. And the outside world isn't going to see this as taking a stance, they'll see it for what it is. You are letting the dog shit on the floor and rather than making him an outside dog you're just covering up the turds with a rug and pretending nothing smells.

I actually thought for one sweat day that maybe someone was going to try to reverse the decay, that the Souther Poverty Law Center labeling it the single most active white nationalist and misogynist site on the internet meant that a major company might want to try to do something about that. But they're too spineless to actually be grownups, because kids yell at their parents when they have a tantrum like they yelled at Pao.

Sorry if this is a little repetitive from that other big thread, but I just really needed to vent.
