As a black man, I came to Reddit because it was a bastion of free speech. It was a place where I could come and be judged on the quality of what I had to say - not the person who said it. It was a place where new ideas could be born, because nobody was afraid of expressing their honest thoughts, opinions, and theories. From what I've seen, SJWs want to destroy that. They care more about who you are than what you say, and if you're not a trans-woman genderqueer attack helicoptor feminist, your ideas don't count.

As a black man, I hate /r/coontown , but I would defend to my death their right to speak freely. /u/spez, What will you do to ensure that reddit remains a free and open platform for everyone?

The majority of the people at /r/CoonTown don't hate black people. They hate the people, that are in every race, that act up (rapists, murderers, etc.). It isn't just white people there either. There's a lot of self posts from all different races.

I guess it's just easier to take the few extremists from that sub and generalize the whole community as that. White neonazis that call for the death of all blacks. Those people exist but it isn't the majority. Or at least in my experience.

As another black man, I am not comfortable with reddit providing a safe-haven for such degenerates and it sends a message to me that reddit prioritizes these racists over people like me. There are plenty of safe-havens for racists on the internet, there's no reason for reddit to also be one.

I'm calling bullshit. 1. I doubt you're black (obligatory #asablackman). 2. You lack a fundamental knowledge of what feminism actually is. Feminism is the fundamental belief that women are equal to men and should be afforded the same basic rights and freedoms. Just as there are extremist MRAs, there are also extremist feminists but that does not reflect on the movement as a whole.

What kind of fucking hypocrite would I be if I do what I do, and then shit on someone for their free speech. If you don't like those subs, don't fucking go to them. If you ban them, they'll just bleed into good subreddits with their hate. So now where they had a place to keep themselves occupied and contained, now they are pissed off and off the leash. Silencing opinions doesn't make them go away.

    I don't want to sit here in ignorance believing that we defeated racism, and it's all gone. I want to look and remember that we as a society still have room to grow and improve. Those shit heads are that reminder.

    The social system of pluralism means that we do not pick a single right way of thinking, but tolerate all forms of thought. This means that for all of us, there is some thought that will offend us and make us doubt our special snowflake status. While /r/CT is the most extreme example, all of us can find some sub we wish would burn in hellfire.

    Beyond that, saying "there is no single right way" does not mean there are not incorrect ways. While we may not affirm a single political/ethical system, that doesn't mean we can't determine certain things are wrong, e.g. dehumanization.
