日本のお風呂はすごい！ 9歳女子の英語解説、誰が作ってるの？（動画）

日本のお風呂はボタン一つで温度が調節できるし、洗濯物も乾かせるし、とっても便利！　日本人にとっては見慣れた日常の光景を、黒髪の少女が英語で解説する動画が人気。再生回数は7月15日時点で130万回を超えました。

動画を撮影、編集しているのは、東京都内に住むカナダ人のグレッグさん。日本人の妻との間に生まれた小学4年生の長女、愛子さん（9）を登場させて、日本の朝食やトイレなどを紹介する動画をYouTubeにアップしています。愛子さんはグレッグさんの故郷、カナダ・バンクーバーで7歳まで育ったバイリンガルです。

2000年に初めて来日したグレッグさん。日本のバスルームや温泉など、知らなかった日本文化に驚くことばかりでした。2013年に日本に引っ越しても、電車に乗るカードでコンビニでも買い物できるなど、ありふれた日常にも驚きの連続。やがて「大人の旅行者が日本の観光名所を紹介する動画はいっぱいあるけど、愛子と同じ世代の子をターゲットに、子供の視点で日常文化を紹介する動画を作ったら、面白くてためになるんじゃないか」と思い立ち、2015年からシリーズとして作り始めました。

特にお風呂の回には「Wow! Cool!」といった反応が続々。「きっとすごい豪邸に住んでいるお金持ちなんだね！」（グレッグさん一家が住んでいるのはごく一般的なマンションです）「お風呂の水を洗濯に再利用して、シャツが汚れないの？」「体も髪の毛も洗って、さらにまた風呂につかるの？」といったコメントもつきました。「僕自身、初めて日本に来たとき、東京がこんなに大きな都市だなんてまったく知らなかった。日本人はみんなちょんまげで歩いていると思っている人はさすがにいないかもしれないけど、いろんな国の人が、日本と違う部分や同じ部分を知ってもらえた」と喜んでいます。

インターネットで世界がグローバルにつながる今、グレッグさんは「いろんな国の子供たちも『自分のところではこうだよ』と紹介してくれたらうれしいね」と話しています。「世界にはきれいな水があれば幸せという国もある。愛子たちが当たり前だと思っていることは、とても恵まれた環境なんだということも分かってもらえるかもしれない」。子供たちが異なる文化への理解を深め、他の文化の良さを取り入れるきっかけにしてほしいと願っています。

ちなみに、愛子さんはYouTubeでアニメを見るのが大好き。自分で出ている動画には「同じクラスの子に見られたら恥ずかしい」と話しているそうです。お母さんは「地球の裏側の人まで見ていること、まだ分かっていないみたい」。


