Other major porn distributors can get away with just doing close-up genital shots for 20 minutes and call it a day. The Japanese had to get pretty inventive with themes and camera angles.

                                                                                                        I'm very much against laws that are for victimless crimes. In the case of any art - drawing, painting, etc - the fact that lolicon exists is not an issue. Unfortunately, people get too bent out of shape about it being 'ewww' instead of concentrating on laws that actually protect people.

                                                                                                        Very sore subject with me. There was a dude who got arrested for importing a comic that depicted a child, and it was apparently loli-based. Anyways, they basically 'threw the book' at him, and I seriously wish he would have fought the law. Victimless laws shouldn't be there to protect someone from going 'ew' at what they see.

I've lived here for the better part of a decade, and you're dead right. It's a weird ass time warp where I'm simultaneously living in 1950 and 2030. I can pay at a vending machine with my phone, but I have coworkers who have never used the Internet or email. Women work at companies building lifelike robots, but are expected to quit if they get married. This place is fuckin' bizarre.

                                                                                                        Their technology progresses at breakneck speed but culturally, they are extremely resistant to change. Tradition and etiquette are extremely important in Japan, and from what I remember they're very conservative. Maybe that's changing for the younger generation.

My workplace sends a weekly report to the town hall. A man comes with a special box, and a floppy disk is carefully handed over to him.

                                                                                                        Fax machines are pretty prevalent in Asia. Most older folks don't like to deal with technology (reading e-mails, opening pdf, digital signatures, etc.) so sending something via fax is seen as more convenient to them. I have no idea who uses floppies but I know they're still in use because I sell them.

                                                                                                            Not necessarily. A lot of people here do not have Internet at home. Sure, they look at things on their phone, but they don't really "use" the Internet so much. I mean, my roommate's brother is in his 30s and he makes her order things off Amazon for him because he "can't figure out how to use it". They don't even have a computer at home.

                                                                                                            They still don't teach computers at all in school as far as I know. Maybe at some schools, but none of the ones where anyone I know works at. No typing classes, no basic computer courses, nothing. It's no wonder people here are not so computer-savvy.
