Do you ever end up seeing a 29 year old man trying his best?

"Uhh I hear you honking... And I also don't want me to be doing what I'm doing... I don't want to be in that lane either"

I laughed. Thanks.

I don't get it.

Reference to John Mulaney's stand up, New In Town, where he describes how terrible of a driver he is

Me neither. Maybe we're not trying our best?

I've seen the 100 year-old blind dog whose texting while driving and drinking a smoothie.

HONK HOOOOOOOOONK

"You don't know me as a whole person!"

I've gotten some nasty looks while in the right lane doing 70 in a 65. Bitch, I'm driving a jeep wrangler, its literally a box with wheels. I deserve an award for getting it up to 70 in the first place.

Hey, as long as you're in the right lane you're fine. You could be doing 40 in the right lane and you're still better than the assholes who do 70 in the left lane with no one to their right and me behind them.

...expecting to see like a hundred year old blind dog whose texting and drinking a smoothie.

This happened on a highway on Texas, which is like a highway full of 13 year-olds.

No. All I ever see are stupid drivers. And dead people.

I just usually see if they have a cell phone out.

They're usually the weavers, not the slowcoaches.

porque no los dos?

[–]Vaguely_Reckless 5ポイント6ポイント  (0子コメント)

I am so excited I could understand this, living in San Diego has really improved my Spanish skills!

confirmation bias, I typically see slow people in the left lane on their phones.

I HATE YOU PEOPLE WHY DO YOU LIKE TO HANG OUT ON THE ROAD SO MUCH.

[–]Lord_Jesus_Chrysler 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

Or in my case last night, chicken nuggets and honey mustard.

I just like to confirm my stereotypes are up to date.

"I bet it's a woman... Holy hell! The trifecta! An elderly Asian woman!"

I don't know if it's just where I'm from but I've never understood the Asian/woman bad driving stereotype. Every time I see a bad driver, it's usually a black male

Not gonna out run the cops worrying about the rules of the road.

I laughed way more than I should have

Every time I see a bad driver they have plates from Massachusetts.

We aren't bad drivers, just aggressive. Which works when everyone drives aggressively. But we leave the state and continue to drive aggressively, and are then labeled Massholes.

My buddy criticizes my driving habits so much.

It's not my fault I was taught how to drive in MA.

Now MOVE YOU DUMB CUNT AND GET THE FUCK OFF THE ROAD.

mutual middle fingers

Ahhh Massachusetts. I miss it.

You must not drive in Vancouver, BC very often.

Or the People's Republic of Arcadia, CA.

Seattle checking in. I got stuck behind an Asian woman on my way home today. I was pretty mad about going down my favorite road at 30 in a 45mph zone. I figured "ok, it's pretty scenic on this road, must be some tourists taking pics, I just gotta get to my neighborhood" ...nope, she lives down the street from me, so I had to follow her through my neighborhood at a whopping 8 miles per hour, stopping at yield signs, and taking turns at 3 mph.

This is after sitting in traffic on I-5 and I'm hypoglycemic so I get irritable if I haven't eaten in an hour, this bitch almost pushed me over the edge.

Exiting I-5 traffic with a feeling of triumph, which is swiftly against the rocks of slow-ass drivers. Like, bitch, what the fuck wonders does 85th and Aurora hold in store for you that require you to stop and gaze?

Or worse, Richmond.

(BC, not Virginia)

In the south it's young white guys in lifted trucks or black women in late model Nissan's. Every. Time.

Drive in any city in Orange County, CA for an hour. As an asian myself, I hate my own kind when I need to drive anywhere around here.

the key thing here is, the bad driver can never be a white male /s

Sure it can. But they need to fit a certain criteria: Wearing a hat, have glasses, be on their phone, be middle aged or older, or just straight up look like an asshole.

It's always one or more of those things.

Actually, for me, it's almost always a middle-aged white guy, often in a medium-luxury-level car, like a lexus, bmw, or acura.

medium-luxury-level car, like a lexus, bmw, or acura.

Ah yes, the three bad O's of driving... Very common to hold all three of titles here in the Seattle region. Having one can be manageable, after that, it's over.

I'm guessing old and oriental. What's the third O referring to women? Ovaries?

My sterotypes

Asians: slow, men and women

Black women: Fast and fail to use turn signal, tend to tailgate.

Black men: Fast, use turn signal but only when half way through their turn.

Mexicans, old small beat up truck, piled too high, 3 in the cab, going 45 inba 65 in the fast lane.

Can confirm. I have relatives that haul high rolls of carpets in their old pick up truck all the time.

Everyone who drives slower than me is an idiot. Everyone who drives faster than me is a maniac.

If everyone drove like me, there would be no traffic or accidents.

If everyone drove like you we would have realized that cars are a dangerous form of transportation.

[–]the_last_carfighter 7ポイント8ポイント  (0子コメント)

They can drive fast or slow as they want, just keep right whenever possible

I believe this is a George Carlin joke.

That's about right. I'm the measuring stick.

Five over the speed limit and I use my signals. The pinnacle of averageness at the wheel.

And never was a truer statement uttered, across time and through the ages, this one fact remains constant.

MA transplant living in upstate NY here. Nope, they're all idiots. Everyone here drives like a bitch, except when they see a red light. Then, they blow through it at 20 over, but God forbid anyone drives over 65 in the left lane of the half-empty interstates.

I hate this state. Thank fuck I'm leaving in a year.

Serious question, why are people who drive slow considered idiots?

[–]Luph 7

The OP is misleading. People who drive slow aren't the problem. People who drive slow while in the passing lane are.

Also people driving 30 on a two-lane highway where the limit is 50.

And if you are that person, PULL OVER SOMETIMES TO LET THE SOLID MILE OF CARS BEHIND YOU GET BY, FFS >.<

when you say "slow divers" do you mean people that do 15 in a 30.

or people that do 30 in a 30?

No, the ones that stand on the end of the board and just bounce up and down for 3 minutes. Just jump in already you stupid slow diver!

After all that build up, you expect something amazing.

But nope, pencil dive, every damned time.

I'm part of the "fall in like a sack of potatoes" school of diving.

Most likely people doing 65 in a 65 in the passing lane on a freeway.

On the smaller freeways that really need passing lanes observed, it doesn't matter how fast you're going in the left lane. Under the speed limit, 15 mph over, doesn't matter. If you're not actively passing someone, don't be in that lane.

I actually just learned that the other day. It's a good idea.

It's also the law in many states in the US.

I know it is in Mississippi. I kind of doubt they enforce it much though.

I'd assume they don't, as it's not actually a law in that state.

A friend of mine got pulled over for it in Missouri.

Did your friend say how much it was by any chance?

its also a law thats rarely enforced.

I think the unspoken thing is passing on the right. Almost no one has a problem with passing whoever they need to pass on the left.

I hate when people ride my butt in the right lane. Like hello! I'm in this lane because I like to go the speed limit. There's a passing lane for a reason!!

On the flip side, the ones that putt along in the left lane drive me insane.

Oh definitely annoying! Tailgate those people!

As someone who usually goes 10 over in the left lane and still gets tailgated, I hate people that tailgate me. It is just asking to get into a bad accident because people can't calm the fuck down with driving. I don't want to get pulled over.

If you're not on a freeway, the passing on the right thing is not relevant. People turn left, right... passing on the left isn't practical in city streets.

Let's be honest. It means anybody that's in front of you.

OP PLZ

I'm guessing OP is one of those assholes who tailgates and causes accidents.

Can we agree on this point: Unless you are in at least moderate traffic, don't go the same speed as the person in the other lane.

I can't tell if me getting mad at slow drivers is because of my anger problem or if it is a legitimate reason to be upset. So, I decide to drive slow and get other people's' reactions. They all get mad at me. Is that because everyone else has an anger problem, or is it ok to be mad at slow drivers?

It's fine to be a slow driver (or, at least, it should be). You want to ride 50 on the freeway, fine.

What isn't fine is driving in the left-hand lane while you're doing it. Or in any other way being unaware of people trying to get by you.

I swear I remember this exact post word for word.

Welcome to Reddit.

My sister showed it to me on Facebook two weeks ago...

OP has never been passed.

I rarely get passed, but when I do - I get over and let people pass me because I absolutely hate when someone (despite how fast they are going) refuses to get over for someone going faster than them.

Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

  • George Carlin

Have you ever noticed that anybody who games worse than you is a noob, and anyone who games better than you is a loser?

--Albert Einstein

I can verify George Carlin's quote, but I'm having trouble verifying Albert Einstein's quote.

That's because Einstein was dead when he said it.

That's because anyone who games better than you is clearly a hacker.

AK_Happy got the quote wrong.

Well, I can move over. And I am never doing 30 in a 30 because that's just silly. So I'm good.

I don't mind slow drivers. I do get pissed if two slow drivers decided to drive at the same speed on both lanes while block everyone else behind them.

I think everyone does this. You've got to know whether it's an old person, or just plain idiot.

sometimes it's both.

If i'm on the clock and I'm travelling to or from a work site (when I'm not late) you can bet your ass I'm driving exactly on the speed limit. I could give zero fucks how much you tailgate me, I will remain at the speed limit until I reach my destination. The real aggressive ones I usually smile and wave at to piss them off even more, half the time it's the idiots who are speeding like maniacs, not the people going the speed limit.

I drive a box truck for my job. So many people just have to pass me right. Fucking. NOW.

I've been doing 10 over in the left lane approaching a left turn only to see middle aged women flipping me off for daring to, I don't know, drive on the road.

Well said, it's not your fault you have to turn left on the highway and people don't seem to understand that.

I get it, people like to see ahead and my truck makes that very impossible. But there's no reason to get pissy about people driving.

I love when they make a big show of passing you only to end up at the same off ramp or ending up getting stuck behind someone slower and getting passed by you. I love to give toothy grins and either golf clapping or giving a thumbs up. People vastly over estimate how much time speeding saved them, and underestimate the extra risks they add (some people between lanes constantly trying to get pole position) just to get there a few seconds faster.

I miss George Carlin

Maybe I'm getting less patient, but it seems like people are driving worse every new day. Today, it was perfect driving conditions, blue skies, dry roads, everyone was doing 30 km/h below the limit. I died inside on my entire commute to work.

[–]The_________________ 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

Slow drivers are fine, so long as they keep their asses over to the right.

Yes, let's get back to the bastion of quality content that is advice animals

Being angry at someone driving slower than you just means you are an asshole. Want to know why I'm driving on the speed limit? No? Too bad. I'm driving on the speed limit because I'm up early in the morning to drop my son off to school, and after that I'm enjoying the drive and crisp cool lake Michigan air. I have nowhere to be and it's not yet too hot out. I am basking in the sunlight and enjoying the days I have left. You? No, your still being an asshat and worried about the speeds others are driving.

All of that is fine, just don't bask in the passing lane.

That's fine, I was more or less talking city streets. I had people riding my as on a city street today when I was going the speedlimit.

Gotcha ya no problems with city streets

Funny cause that's pretty much what I figured, my job requires me to move from one place to another quickly, keep appointments, and sometimes things come up and I just need to get somewhere now. If it's a weekday I feel as though people need to understand that there's those of us out there who have shit to do and need to get where we're going as fast as we safely can. That's great if you don't have any affairs to attend to or errands to run at 1:30pm on a Wednesday but damnit I do!

Agreed. The worst is when you're stuck behind someone on a one-lane road for the next 10 minutes and they're going 5 under the speed limit, and then your GPS says you're going to be 1 minute late for your meeting which you were previously going to be early for! Obviously a minute or two isn't a big deal for most people, but it can make the difference in some client relationships. And we don't all have the luxury of just leaving earlier (in my case I often have 6-8 meetings in a day, it's hard to keep that schedule 100% spaced out all the time).

Also, to those balking at the notion that going over the speed limit is a reasonable thing to do, most student driver schools teach that going 10% over the limit at any given time is often safer than just going the speed limit. It's actually more dangerous to go the speed limit if others on the road are going faster as it creates more opportunities for blind-spot creepers and collisions. And considering that speed limits are created with large, slow-breaking vehicles and the possibility of inclement weather in mind, it's not unreasonable for most people in safe conditions to go a little over.

But isn't it like.. idk... illegal to drive above the speed limit? People like you are the reason roads are so fcking dangerous.

I might get down voted for this, but it's not the speeding that's the dangerous part (within reason), it's the difference in speeds between cars. There was a study I heard about where accidents were found to happen more frequently in places where the speed limit was slower than necessary than in places where the speed limit matched the straightness/width/traffic-patterns of that section. They found that people generally go the speed limit if it's set at a rate that makes sense and isn't just slower for the purpose of making people go slower. Maybe I'll try to find the study in a little bit.

Its not ablut driving fast or aggressive it's about understanding some people have busy lives and their driving might reflect that, so when you're just moseying down the road without a care in the world keep in mind some people do have cares.

Get mad at the people who go 5 under the speed limit.

yup, i do the same thing. I also look at the post history of people who repost to see if they have any pictures of themselves to see if they look as stupid as I picture them. And they usually do.

Ridiculous how "driving slow" in America is often just going the speed limit. I sit at the speed limit in the right lane on cruise control whenever I commute, yet everyone around me has to pass at 5-10 over. You know the speed limits are there so that driving is actually safe, right? That's why you go that speed or a couple below, so you don't fucking die, kill other people, or pressure other people into making terrible decisions.

But you've really got to get to work on time, huh

You can drive at the speed limit no one cares about that. But other people drive faster and you need to look around and move from the left lane if it's possible. The main issue is left lane hoggers

While I'm not advocating speeding, a lot of speed limits are well below what could reasonably be considered safe. Studies have been done that increasing speed limits in a lot of circumstances appreciably reduces the rate of accidents. And a lot of speed limits are artificially low so local police can generate revenue more easily. Not everyone who speeds slightly is driving dangerously.

This is just a stream of consciousness that I've been thinking about recently, but the problem with speed limits is that my car can handle the road differently than yours, and you can handle the road differently than the 90 year old next to you...but we have the same speed limit.

So then you think you can handle a certain speed, and that might be true some days, but you might be tired or distracted one day, and you might be going too fast for what you can normally handle. The 'ideal' solution, which would be impractical and annoying, is to wake up every day, take a responsiveness test, then have your speed limit determined for you, at that moment. 65 is probably too fast for some people and too slow for others, when traffic is moving faster it's unsafe to actually just travel at 65. Speed limits are weird.

I've stopped getting frustrated at other drivers, because I realize that their speed and mine only mesh some of the time, and when there's many other drivers, odds are you're going to be going slower or faster than they want to on any given day. Sometimes people get mad at me going 70, other days people are fine hanging behind me at 65. I always stay in the slow lane and apologize to the people that get mad, and just try staying safe and not getting in anyone's way. Driving's become a lot less of a hassle ever since I decided to just let the flow of traffic take me where I'm going, and I just hope I don't piss off too many people along the way.

Funny. I thought the stupid drivers who end up in accidents were the fast drivers.

What about the normal drivers? They could still complain about slow drivers, right?

Yes, but usually the most vocal ones are the impatient speed demons. I'm not accusing OP, but I would be surprised if OP wasn't one

Bad women drivers tend to be not paying attention and driving slow. Bad male drivers tend to drive like dicks and cut people off and drive too quickly. An elderly man can sometimes drive like a woman. These stereotypes are about 90% right in my estimation.

Can we create a international hand gesture for GET THE HELL OFF YOUR PHONE.

I believe they already have this for drivers. If I'm not mistaken you extend your arm and ball your hand into a first and carefully extend your middle finger.

I use this gesture quite frequently but we need something specific to the phone. People must know why I am flippin em the bird.

I see if fast drivers look like assholes. They usually do.

For me, like 9 times out of 10 they end up turning off the road and I could have avoided passing them if I had waited another 15 seconds.

Who cares about slow drivers? It's people who drive the same speed as the car next to them.

And when some asshole that's been tailgating me while I've been doing the speed limit in the right lane finally passes me I make sure to make eye contact

Why is driving slow a bad thing? Sometimes I'm not in a rush to get somewhere and I'd rather drive slow and enjoy some alone time. Just go around me.

As daft as they are, I bet they've all got enough dignity not to post shite meme's on Reddit. 1-0 to the Sunday drivers.

Are you the asshat who sits on my tail in the left lane when I am already 10 over the speed limit THEN passes me on the right only to end up going slower than when I was in front of you?

slow driving saves:

  • gas

  • wear and tear on your brakes

  • stress

  • in some situations, traffic jams, by keeping traffic moving slow and steady, instead of stop and start.

Which is all well and good if that person stays out of passing lanes.

agreed. I'm not talking about passing lanes, I'm just taking issue with OP calling slow drivers STUPID. it's not that simple

Whenever I read a post speaking critically about slow drivers, I immediately assume they are speaking of those in passing lanes. Because any other reason doesn't make sense. Everyone has a right to drive a speed they are comfortable driving (as long as it's safe). Just do so in the proper lane and yield to faster traffic.

I assume OP means people driving well below the speed limit in any lane for no good reason. If you only feel comfortable doing 40 in a 55, you shouldn't be on the road.

But slow driving people sometimes encounter even slower people and then they have every right to use the passing lane momentarily.

[–]Luph 0

Yeah, and when they do it'd be great if they accelerated their car to more than one mile per hour above the person they're passing, you know, instead of holding up three people behind them who would also like to pass.

I think there is a difference between driving slow and leaving proper space.

Driving slow is never the right answer. Driving the correct speed for the traffic you are in is always the right answer.

You are correct with your bullet points. But like I said, it's not about driving slow but at an appropriate speed.

Left lane for passing. Move over.

Stress is increased for all of those who have to sit behind you. When was the last time your speedometer was calibrated anyway?

Traffic jams are caused by two clueless drivers going exactly the same speed next to each other.

Once again, left lane is for passing.

Gotta save my stress and let it out at the appropriate times.

You sound like a douche.

lol I drive 5-10 mph under the speed limit so I can hit 50+ mpg. I get looks from guys like you all the time but I don't give a fuck 'cause I'm saving money and preserving my engine.

So you were:

1) In the wrong lane.

2) Driving fast, or at least faster than the person in front of you.

3) Not watching the road, and staring at people in their cars.

Yeahhh, and they're the idiot. They're the idiots who:

1) Drive in the right lane

2) Drive Speeds slower than the guy who is currently left of them (you, because you are passing him)

3) keep their eyes on the road

You might want to explain this one to me OP.

How do you know what lane he was in? He might have been stuck behind some guy in the left lane who wouldn't move over and was forced to pass on the right. You also don't know what speed he was going. And glancing does not mean staring.

Got a feeling this is a repost from elsewhere when looking at OP's history, their latest repost being that popular image with the Mac laptop holding up the window.

For a moment I thought this was going to be about Pluto because it kinda fits

I did once see a car doing 50 in a 55 and I passed it on my exit ramp. The driver was a fed-up black dude in his 40's. Between that and the sound that car was making, I understood he was going top speed. I feel ya, bro, I feel ya.

9 times out of ten it is someone in their cell phone. The other 10% are elderly....every damn time

There's absolutely no way to do this without looking aggressive. Sometimes I just wanna look!

The first question to ask in this situation, always, is: "Old, stoned, or texting?"

What's with reddit every week having a someone let me drive fast post.

I hate slow drivers! But it's the people who don't use their turn signals that really get to me!

And their mouth as always wide open

It's usually proceeded with a racist slur.. I'm not racist!

Dude... I take offense to that. If I see you tailgating, I will let you pass on the left when I can because I go at the speed limit, but not below it.

Actually, I don't take offense at much. I just chuckled at this meme.

I was just thinking the same thing

Well, if you lock your cruise control at the higher speed.. Wait a second and you'll get to see them again when they speed up past you.
