I honestly wouldn't take it personally. As a woman you're taught from an early age that strange men on the street are dangerous and you must look out for your safety at all costs. You know you're not a threat and that you would never hurt a woman but the woman walking on the street with you doesn't know that. How could she? She has to assume that you're dangerous so that she can protect herself in any way possible. Sure, 9/10 times she may walk past a guy and nothing will happen but there is always that chance that something could happen and why risk that? Women don't like it either. That's why there are Take Back the Night campaigns and women argue that we shouldn't have to feel like this but then we're told that it's impractical to walk down the streets at night alone and expect that nothing will ever happen.

If I am walking down the street and a guy is walking behind me, I will cross the street to see if he follows me. That is a precaution I just have to take. Sure, being seen as a threat when you're not sucks, but seeing every man as a potential threat when they're probably not also sucks. Lose-lose situation for everyone.
