All I'm seeing is spam.

Half of the posts are by Joseph Proudhon who seems to be pretty busy to live up to his biography "Social justice, human rights, freedom".

He seem to literally tweet his fancy image to every news outlet he can find.

Proudhon sounds like a super French nationalistic name.

The funny thing about twitter is that you will see less of these things if you actually have an account.

Just like reddit gets better once you're logged in and de-sub from certain defaults.

Yeah, it's like creating an account to hide awful default subreddits, sometimes it's just better to waste a few minutes creating and setting up a dummy account than being annoyed by random posts you don't care about all day long.

Twitter's fine, I use it to follow websites / news I care about, just because some people use it for stupid stuff doesn't mean it cannot be useful :)

Because ignoring the problem by not understanding it will make it go away, right ? /s

On the internet is generally smart to ignore stupid people rather than engage them.

[–]United States of Americawadcann [

Take Reddit and tweak as follows:

  • Restructure things so that it's more prone to knee-jerk emotional reactions.

  • Add a "follower" score, so that an ongoing popularity game is integral to the system.

  • Reduce the amount of reading and text involved, so that the only concepts that show up are those that can be expressed in one very short sentence. This gets rid of the riff-raff who might otherwise muck things up with extended thoughts or supporting points or anything like that.

  • Add some data analysis tools so that marketing people can monitor it like no other system that they've ever had access to, so that it draws in lots of marketers.

Usually in Greece we say to support and buy Greek products so we can help our economy. Once in a while you might hear that from someone. Then you see him riding his BMW bike, and you are like..... #yolo

Yeah, most tweets are from American pseudo-intellectuals, who have no knowledge of the situation aside from an increasingly desperate Krugman's daily attack posts.

Greece is fucking with the Spend and Spend ideology of the american left. Greece did Spend and Spend for decades, and as a result Greece is fucked. If the rest of Europe doesn't pay for it, how can the American left keep up the delusion?

[–]United States of AmericaSD49235 [スコア非表示]  (1子コメント)

I think the American left and the American right both have the "spend and spend" ideology. They just like to spend on different things.

True.

And the US, owning the world currency, and the world economy dependent on their consumers, is in the lucky position that they can "print" themselves out of trouble to some degree, socializing their losses over the whole world.

This is just an idea to stop Aldi and Lidl winning the European Supermarket War. He probably wants us to buy in Marks & Spencer's or some really expensive shop that people only shop in once a year or so.

stop Aldi and Lidl winning the European Supermarket War.

Implying they haven't already won. They both are the biggest discounter markets in Europe and international.

Their share in many countries is still below 10%.

Outside Europe maybe. Except for Scandinavian countries you can't avoid seeing a shit ton of ALDI and LIDL markets outside of Germany. I don't believe they're below 10% market share, though I don't have sources.

[–]The NetherlandsBierdopje [

Netherlands:

Aldi: 7.4%

Lidl: 9.7%

So yes, together they have 17.1%. Both are still small compared to the bigger players here though.

Well, you already got discounters like C1000 and Albert heijn is doing a lot of the stuff Aldi does with own no-name brands despite not being a discounter. Also, your markets are not that overpriced compared to e.g. the UK.

[–]The NetherlandsBierdopje [

Yeah, you're right. We've had a supermarket war for a couple of years with large price drops. Maybe had something to do with Aldi and Lidl entering the market. Lidl is still growing though, Aldi not so much.

Aldi is at a mere 5.3% in the UK. Its shares in Hungary and Poland aren't that impressive either.

I would buy more from Aldi if they actually had a store which wasn't ten miles away.

Aldi in Poland is almost non-existant (even that they have 100 shops) in most people's minds. LIDL is doing better, definitely, but still Biedronka is the biggest one here.

and there is kaufland, probably comparable to aldi.

Yeah, UK is not surprising given the presence of Tesco and Sainsbury's.

Id say it is more because aldi isn't in the U.K. for that long. Tesco and co are losing shares pretty rapidly.

[–]Est Europa nunc unita!weneedtofederalize [

Let's nevertheless not overlook that most people do not buy discount groceries. Aldi and Lidl combined have 5.5% of the grocery market in Denmark.. The total discount market share found by combining the shares of the top 6, infobox on this link, is 40%. When I was browsing data from France, Great Britain, and Ireland, none of them ranked higher than 6th and with a max share of 5-6% each. (Those non-discount ones at the top were often above 25-33% each.) Just because Aldi and Lidl experience high growth does not mean they have already won "the supermarket war". Their product selections are tiny and kind of disappointing, and it's depressing walking around in them.

We only have Lidl in Finland and I don't think it's even that big yet.

Either way as a Greek supporter I'll stop shopping there but mainly because it will drive my drive my German friend crazy,

"But you KNOW now dat lidl iz cheeper for ze same item, Why would you go to ze expensive place?"

At least I think I've narrowed down the German psychology enough to say that sort of behavior will get them going.

Finland has two expensive Finnish supermarket chains that dominate, and Lidl has about 8% market share (rising about 1% per year). Lidl in Finland also realized, they don't need to set very cheap prices, just about 20% cheaper than the Finnish chains.

More Lidl and cheaper food to Finland, bitte schön.

The last years, Germany has been the biggest imbalance in world trade and number 1 danger, threatening the fragile economic system. Far worse than China the last decade. It has engaged in a heavily export economy which needs other countries to have huge trade deficits to accommodate the huge trade surpluses.
