That Bill Finger era batman mask on the gunman is great

Of all the masks used by the Joker's crew, I'm a fan of Eyeball the most. Reminds me of the Neversoft guy you could unlock on THPS.

RIP Neversoft

I've never really followed the DC universe too much. Is the green-haired dude the Joker?

nope. That's the butt baby that Marilyn Manson and Joker left in a dumpster.

[–]RebelofnjPearl Jones 43

To anyone wondering, the song in the trailer is a cover of the Bee Gees song "I Started The Joke".

I'm ashamed to admit I only knew this song from Zoolander, which was a cover (and to my ear is still a better version than the original).

You should be ashamed of feeling ashamed of Zoolander. It is a great dumb movie, on par with Wayne's World or Billy Madison or other great stupid classics.

No, no, no. I'm not ashamed of loving Zoolander. It's in an echelon that includes Airplane! and MP: The Meaning of Life. I was saying I was ashamed that it was that movie I knew that song from.

Faith No More did it best.

i'm just excited the trailer didn't give away the entire plot. just enough character reveals to get my interest without giving away the story. I like it.

Well, it is just a teaser. It's the trailer that will give away the entire plot, don't worry.

to be fair. after 2 bvs trailers we stil dont know the plot

I think it's interesting that DC is utilizing the iconic nature of their characters to jump straight into the action without a whole lot of exposition. They don't need the setup for batman or Wonder Woman, or the joker. They are so well known that we already have a good enough idea about the characters.

Bold move there cotton, let's see how this works out for them.

There's too much exposition in new comic book franchises. It's really overdone.

Lack of Harley's New Jersey accent makes me sad. The rest looks pretty batshit crazy (and I like it)

Lack of Harley's New Jersey Brooklyn accent makes me sad.

That's straight joisey.

Source: I'm from joisey.

It's always sounded like an exaggerated Brooklyn accent to my ears.

Source: I'm also from Jersey and have visited Brooklyn.

Well that's pretty weird because Harley was born and raised in Brooklyn.

I've been to Brooklyn countless times and have yet to hear someone speak exactly like that. It's a harsher lower accent if anything but my opinion may be skewed because I've lived here all my life and it all sound normal to me (as opposed to hearing people from the west or south.) Not disputing her origin--I've just heard way more people speak in this accent from parts of Jersey than the city. It's Sorkin's voice that does it either way, and she's from DC, no? It's honestly anyone's take. I just wanted to say joisey mostly.

Edit: I live ten minutes outside of NYC--which is why I feel comfortable in that opinion. Still an opinion.

I agree. Her energy seemed very lacking. I got kind of an almost dazed/drugged vibe from Harley rather than the peppy/crazy I like about her. And that could honestly be me missing the accent and associating that persona with her accent. As for Joker, I liked the interpretation as far as acting went, but I'm still not sold on his wardrobe.

Maybe it's because she's been locked up and sedated for so long? It does seem kinda weird, but I'll hold off judgement until we can see more than 30 seconds of her.

Maybe she's just a little laid back until Joker is around, then she goes bonkers.

Did you see him wearing that purple leather trench-coat at one point? I missed it the first time but it definitely makes me feel a little better.

In terms of creating an alternative to Marvel, having a team-up movie of the biggest characters in the genre and then following it up with a movie that looks this fucking weird was a great choice.

[–]Dr_MidniteDr.

It doesn't look that weird to me. In fact it looks similar to Batman v Superman. DC/WB seems to be playing this very straight. Sure Killer Croc is kind of an odd man out but other than that it all seems pretty par for the course.

I think the aesthetic is at least somewhat similar to BvS. That being said, the general feel is very different.

As /u/ectomimedbison, it's a "weird choice", it's like going with Guardians of the Galaxy as your third film instead of your tenth.

well when Guardians of the Galaxy does so well that's what you want to reach for.

Yeah but I think Ant Man will be Marvel's true test of success. But I also said the same thing about GotG last year.

Ah, but Suicide Squad is coming in to a world where Guardians already broke the mold Marvel built.

So it's less a leap, considering the success.

I love that Killer Croc is in this so much.

I would prefer if he was like an 8 ft monster

I can go either way on Croc. The big crazy monster is always great, but also love him as just a huge dude with a skin condition a la Azzarello's Joker

Would you also prefer if he was beaten by the Batman via sneaking around on flimsy wooden planks and being stunned by the occasional batarang?

That was in my opinion the hardest most tedious part of that game.

[–]Rescue_the_innocentThe Riddler 3ポイント4ポイント  (5子コメント)

I completed Arkham Asylum. 1000/1000. That means getting triple medals on all the challenges, and fighting hordes of thugs with no indication of when to attack.

The croc fight was tedious. Not the most tedious.

Congrats man, you really earned that. 1000/1000! Wooh!

[–]Rescue_the_innocentThe Riddler 2ポイント3ポイント  (3子コメント)

I can't tell if this is Sarcasm or not, but I'm giving the internet the benefit of the doubt this time.

Don't even get me started on Assassins' Creed 2.

Still feel unsure about this movie, but I am loving Viola Davis as Amanda Waller. Hope we get a great story between her and her squad.

Yep, that's basically Amanda Waller in one sentence.

Yeah they really nailed that. I feel like she was honestly the scariest character in the entire trailer, which is what she should be.

And the fact that Harley is the one who calls her the Devil is telling.

[–]ShizcakeCarl Grimes 15

Same. I love what we've seen for Robbie as Quinn and Leto as joker. And I'll definitely see the movie, but I still can't tell if it'll actually turn out to be a good movie overall.

I really want to like it. I really really do.

I don't hate it. I don't think I dislike it. But for some reason, I don't think I quite am thrilled about it.

I love suicide squad. I like the first New 52 SS with Harley. But I'm just not getting hyped for this one yet.

I mean, I'm still going to see it on opening night, but I may not be all jumpy like I am with other movies while I do so.

Joker looks straight nuts. I like.

Yeah between Jack and Heath their Jokers were amazing and were still able to pull of the crazy.

But based on what i've seen so far of Leto and how his Joker will look, he looks far more menacing and psychotic to me. Maybe its the tattoos, maybe its the MS-13 look he's got goin for him, but either way it works pretty nicely for me.

Just rewatched and caught this still of what looks like Leto in full Joker getup

I am excited. Even the Damaged tattoo has grown on me.

I love the fact he needs grills because Batman has knocked out the majority of his teeth.

Yeah, color me excited. Leto is a fantastic actor. I remember how people said Ledger wouldn't be able to step out of Nicholson's shadow. The look may not be everyone's favorite, but I have a feeling Leto is going to make the character his own.

Leto instantly reminds me of Marilyn Manson for some reason.

I think Leto's Joker will be more maniacal laughter and shenanigans rather than the dark chaos of Ledger. Going in a different direction is a good idea, and I have very high hopes for this movie.

That's exactly who I always had in mind! He might not be as dark as Heath but he can still be memorable. We'll see.

Nobody liked the look of Heath Ledger's Joker at first either. Everybody always shits on anything remotely different at first. Give it time and I think people could grow to really like this Joker. He feels far creepier to me than Ledger's. The big thing is the tattoos actually add to the crazy vibe in a realistic way in my opinion.

Leto's Joker already feels different. Let's say hypothetically it doesn't hold up to Ledger and Nicholson, we'll at least have had a fresh take on the Joker unlike anything the other two did with the character.

I did, thought he looked seriously insane. I was genuinely excited for Ledger as Joker.

Eh, I like the way Leto's Joker looks, but the tattoos just look wrong.

Didn't care for the dialogue though. Just seemed liked poor writing.

For most characters it would be bad. But I think it works because it's the Joker.

[–]WheresmyspacebarBooster and Skeets 41

Honestly, i fucking love this joker, just from this 10-15 seconds we have.

He looks scary as hell and mental. Like, Ive loved every iteration of on-screen joker but my god, Leto has done wonders in this 15 seconds of screentime so far.

Edit Ignore me, rewatched the trailer. That scene is probably Harley flashback

Still looks quite corny and "edgy" tho'.

It's the 2015-16 joker! The 80's was a gangster, King of Crime when our biggest fears were crime taking over the nation. Heath gave us a Anarchist Bush-era joker. Now we have the entitled, flashy, abusive boyfriend, chris brown bieber Joker. I'm so pumped.

Well put and insightful as to the reason to the genres of the jokers that I didn't notice before. Thank you for that.

I'm excited for the movie, but I can't read what's the movie's tone. It's almost dark and realistic like Nolan Batman, but character designs suggest something else

To be fair, this is literally our first look. It's very possible they're saving up the really crazy stuff for future trailers/the actual movie.

That'a true, but even from the first trailer, it doesn't give a reason for non-comic fans to see it. Comic fans are going to see it because they already understand what the Suicide Squad and who the characters are. I guess it makes sense that this was the "Comic-Con" trailer

"Some kind of...suicide squad..."

They're playing it waaaaaaay too straight.

That's one of my main fears that the movie will be so middle road that it'll end up being one grey blah

Deadshot is the one that usually names the team.
They're called Task Force X in the movie by the government.

No way a movie with Harley Quinn as a primary focus is going to play anything 100% straight. I would have been surprised if they'd resisted the temptation to namedrop "suicide squad" at some point.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is the first real live action look at Harley. So far she looks like a true psycho.

It's the first "big screen" version of her, but not the first live action version, no. She was the main antagonist in the short-lived Birds of Prey show.

So good. SO GOOD.

Hopefully this will fill the void of good villains in comic book movies. Let's be honest, outside of Fassbender's Magneto and Ledger's Joker, we haven't gotten a truly outstanding comic book villain on screen in a long time.

No love for Hiddleston's Loki?

I'm sure I'm in the vast minority here, but in my opinion, Loki was good, and Hiddleston gave a phenomenal performance, but he never really screamed "evil" to me. Probably the strongest MCU villain performance thus far though, except for maybe Red Skull.

I'd say Kingpin has been the best MCU villain so far.

[–]SparkyPantsMcGeeThe Question 27

Kingpin was the first in house Marvel villian that has had any lasting impact for me. Loki was good but it felt like Marvel was trying to shove him down my throat because they had nothing else.

Redskull was good looking but he didn't have a lot of screen time and would have loved to see more.

Flash and Arrow have really shown how great DC's villains are and I confident that the movies are going to see that and use it to there advantage. Suicide is an excellent start to this.

The problem I have with Loki is that they made all the Asgardians pretty weak, except for Thor.

Loki gets all his power from the scepter in the first avengers, and other than that he just does illusion or teleport tricks. How many times can you fall for that, especially when they aren't even that convincing?

They made every Asgardian weaker but they are still crazy strong. Remember beginning of Avengers how easily he kills the Shield agents

He had probably more screen time than every film Marvel villain combined, so yeah, he is the most developed character. He even has a romantic interest.

I just have an issue with how his nefarious scheme is to use heroin money to gentrify a neighborhood faster. Google bus' gentrification of SF is scarier than Fisk. Maybe Fisk should have invested in a few tech start ups instead of buying a PMC and bribing half of NYPD.

I never felt Loki was a threat. I mean in avengers he got winded taking out a handful of normal humans, I can't take him seriously as an opponent.

Loki isn't a fighter. Loki's thing has always been subterfuge and trickery.

well he should use some of those smarts of his to not get into fights.

then a guy with fighting skill gets overconfident or loses control I can appreciate that because mental discipline not their forte. but if a guy known for using intelligence to win keep making massive idiot moves it's like a guy that we're superposed to believe is a master of karate tripping over all the time.

I though Shannon did a good job, but I always have a hard time caring about Zod. For the most part, villains with the same powers as the hero is usually very boring to me. Especially in a movie because I want to see something different visually.

He was really good, but not a stand-out IMO. His "Where did you train? On a farm?!" speech was great though.

In my opinion to be a great villain you need to have a valid drive behind the actions you take. That is what exactly Zod had: his sole purpose as he said in his speech which imo is amazing is that he looks after his people no matter what so you understand him and kind of want to cheer him in a way. Anyway each to their own opinion.:)

He was an interesting villain. And you could kind of empathize with him a bit. His sole purpose is to guard his race and he repeatedly failed because he was so focused on Kyrpton's survival, he couldn't see why their society was doomed in the first place.

But Zod was an idiot when you look at his options and see what he chose. Could have terraformed Mars instead, could have raised a generation of super powered Kryptonians and ruled earth as gods. But no, I must rebuild Krypton.

I'd argue that Loki has been a pretty solid onscreen villain. He's been in multiple movies and even stood out as a main character/antihero in Thor 2.

And while he wasn't on the big screen D'Onofrio's Wilson Fisk/Kingpin was pretty outstanding.

I get a very meh feeling overall. The bright spot for me was the Joker. Based off the pictures I was expecting him to be extremely fidgety and jumping around with a high pitch voice to make sure we all know he how damaged he is. Basically Johnny Depp's WIlly Wonka on crack. I was pleasantly surprised by the calm crazy demeanor.

He's channeling a decent amount of Ledger's take, I think. But with crazy eyes. (which is a great thing from what we saw here, imo)

His voice is very much channeling Ledger. Not sure I like it, I'd rather have a new interpretation. We'll see.

I definitely think there was some Ledger in there, but it didn't have as much of that manic, unpredictable edge to it. As /u/Vash265 said, he's got the crazy eyes, so (and this is going off the two lines we've heard so far) hopefully, he'll try to express more with his eyes than his inflection/tone. I'll wait to hear more before making any judgement.

The laugh is interesting, though.

I'm thinking that laugh was sarcastic or something else. To me it sounded similar to the retrofitted suicide collars in Arkham Asylum.

Harleen Quinzel was a psychologist, not a medicine woman.

[–]LasDenDeath Stroke 2

I dont think so. In the shot he walks in you can see one of his stuffed panda/animal henchman at the side going out. So I think its someone else.

In this shot we see her strapped down and him, shirt off like in the end of the trailer, standing over her.

EDIT: Also, she has the strap in her mouth. It could just be to gag her, but it could be because she's about to get electroshocked.

Well, that is unquestionably without-even-a-hint-of-doubt Toronto right there. I'm honestly surprised they showcased Yonge-Dundas like that.

I feel like the tone of this film is kinda wrong, y'know? I expected darkly humorous hijinks. While I can see elements of that the trailer seems to be trying to convey something too serious.

Jared Leto looks good though.

Robbie could be good, although she doesn't scream Harley Quinn to me.

Surprised they didn't put more of an emphasis on Will Smith.

Leto's Joker still looks odd to me, and his voice appears to be very Ledger, which I don't think I like.

Honestly, the lack of focus on Smith is the only thing about this trailer I like. I'm genuinely concerned about Deadshot being just Will Smith with guns and here it doesn't seem that way. That said, I really Don't like how this looks.

I was worried this movie would be the Will Smith and Margo Robbie show. Well, if the trailer was an accurate representation of the movie, I was half right. A lot of snippets of Harley, though not much to make a judgment on -- which isn't a bad thing for a first trailer. I just hope the spotlight moves around a little more in future looks and, of course, in the full film.

Surprised they didn't put more of an emphasis on Will Smith.

Me too. It has such an emphasis on Harley when Will Smith was easily the biggest in the world star just 5 years ago. Not really a complaint, just find it surprising.

That's exactly what I thought when I heard the voice. You could close your eyes & hear Heath Ledger in there, for sure.

[–]That_one_cool_dudeMan-Thing 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Don't care what anyone says Leto's joker looks amazing and the rest of it looks really good, can't wait for this movie to drop so I can see how it actually is. Also hopefully DC is smart and doesn't give shit away about the movie.

I don't know anything about Suicide Squad. What books do I need to read to get up to speed?

[–]ChrisWubWubDevil Dinosaur 4

Suicide Squad #1 of DC New 52 is a good start

[–]the_lucky_catDream 3ポイント4ポイント  (0子コメント)

Oh man, The Suicide Squad has been around since the silver age post-crisis era. There have been dozens of incarnations of the team, so there aren't actually fixed members (Waller would put together a team of rogues and call it A Suicide Squad). How about watching the cartoon movie Assault on Arkham instead?

The original run is one of DC's all time greats, and despite turning 28 this year, it holds up perfectly. It establishes several of the characters featured here and defines their role in the post-Crisis DCU, cementing characterizations that would hold up all the way from 1987 to just before the New 52.

The whole run is available on Comixology. The first trade, Trial By Fire, was rereleased a few years ago, and is slated for another rerelease this September according to Amazon.

I don't like how the Joker looks like methed out trailer trash. It's new though, so I should reserve judgement until I see it I guess...

I think I've finally pinpointed why I don't like Leto's Joker, at least visually...

Yes, the tattoos are ridiculous. Yes, they're out of character for the Joker, far too self aware. But what really bothers me is that he reminds me of The Jokerz gang from Batman Beyond, who I absolutely hated for not being the Joker. He looks like someone inspired by the Joker more so than the Joker proper, and those little punks pissed all over my Cornflakes every Saturday morning by not being the clown prince of crime that Batman Beyond deserved.

For me its the tattoos. Not them specifically, but the idea that joker would show up and actually sit still for multiple hours while getting inked is ridiculous to me.

Just picturing him sitting in the chair making small talk with the artist. Yeah, I really think its gonna look good. How much longer?

Remember the original Joker pic? When we first saw Leto? Another one came out showing Harley tattooing him. So maybe she gave them to him.

Still can't get behind the Joker's look.

Or the way he sounds.

Looks sooo dope! Margot Robbie seems to be great as harley too, can't wait to see this!

I think this looks pretty good, but I'm not as excited for this as BvS. The mood of the trailer is undeniably dark, but I can't get past the notion that it's trying to be dark for the sake of being dark, as well as being an alternate to Marvel's lighter side.

Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is great casting and my favorite part of the trailer. I'm having trouble with Will Smith being Deadshot as all I see is Will Smith playing Will Smith.

The music and reveal of the "joke was on me" was a great touch to the Jared Leto reveal.

[–]MechaZainSilver Surfer 10

I'm sure Robbie and Leto will do a fine job but I don't think I'm ever gonna like their designs.

I'm not sure if I love it or loathe it, but it certainly looks different from every Marvel/DC film we've received up to this point, and that has me interested.

I'm not sure I'm feeling Will Smith in this.

Okay, I've warmed up a little bit to Leto's Joker, but overall I'm still not impressed by the majority of what I'm seeing.

Man, The MIB is having some serious funding issues when J can't wear a suit and gets to have a full beard.

Bleh. Some of it looks good, but in my opinion Harley and Joker both come off as a little too tame and controlled and calm. Putting aside that they both look awful, especially Ledo.

[–]KennyGardnerKate Bishop 2

I'm not a fan of the tattoos or grill, but I think Leto will crush this.

They're leaning too heavily on Harley to sell this movie. And, god, I fucking hate the way the joker looks, the tattoos are so stupid.

I may not like the tats, but I really like Jokers extensive dental work. Makes sense when someone has made a career iut of getting punched in the face by The Bat.

I know a lot of people didn't like that first picture of the Joker, but this trailer shows me what I saw in that picture, and I saw the layers of madness that we see in the animated series and comic books

None of this does anything for me. The movie could turn out amazing and blow me away, but based on the characters involved and this trailer, I'm not feeling it as of this time.

I like the vibe, but I really don't like their costumes. Part of Marvel's MCU greatness is the great deal of respect the creators have for the comic book versions of the costume. And if aspects of a costume were a bit too comic book-y (see: Ant-Man), they didn't go super nutso and tried to adhere to the source material as much as possible (not see: Joker w/ gangbanger tats).

I'll give it a chance though. It'll also be interesting to see how Batman gets involved -- he's basically turned into RDJ/Iron-Man for the DCCU.

[–]NudeTayneMNWMoon Knight 7

I think the Batman stuff will probably be a flashback of Harley's showing her before she got locked up. I wouldn't be surprised of they're overplaying Joker's and Batman's significance in the movie to try and fill the theaters.

All things considered, Smith's Deadshot costume is pretty on-target. And Katana is looking more or less like Katana. Same with Croc.

You're right, Katana and Croc are pretty spot on. It's the Joker and Harley that are bugging me the most, but if they can play the part convincingly, then I won't care what they wear.

I'm not a huge fan of what DC has done with Harley either, but it's more or less how she's been looking at least since the reboot, if not before. And tats aside, Joker just looks like Joker with his shirt off. Even has purple satin gloves. Thought that was a nice touch, myself.

[–]joey_slugsDr.

Super creepy version of "I Started A Joke" and I dig the feel so far, but I still can't stand the Joker and Croc's look

Still not convinced about this movie, but I am at least cautiously optimistic now.

I owe everyone involved in Suicide Squad an apology.

The set and official images released so far didn't inspire any confidence (although I always thought the new look for the Joker was good), and I was pretty much ready to write this off...but the trailer has restored all confidence and then some. VERY excited for this, and I think this could be a 'GOTG'-esque hit for DC. Unlikely concept for a 'superhero' movie, characters that the general public at large aren't familiar with, and it could turn a lot of heads.

That doesn't look very good. Cheesy dialog and lame acting. Viola Davis as Amanda Waller could be the only saving grace for this movie.

I like the two similarities between this and the BvS trailer. The song has the lyrics "The joke was on me." And in BvS the Robin suit has joker Scribble on it "Hahah Joke's on you Batman!"

This trailer actually changed my mind on Croc. I wanted a more reptilian look and was disappointed with the initial cast photo but he looks great here. It sort of looks like Enchantress will have a bigger presence than I expected too.

I like Robbie as Harley but I wish they had her talk more, I want to hear her accent. I want to like Jared Leto but they really sunk him with his look. Hopefully his performance is good enough that I just don't care he looks like a gangbanger inspired by the real Joker.

Overall I'm not super hyped or anything but I don't see any reason why I won't go to the theatre the weekend this comes out.

[–]jph139Dr.

Anyone hyped for Katana? Not a character I've ever had strong feelings about either way, but the comic-to-screen transition on her is AMAZING. I mean, look at her! Interested to see how she gets roped into the Squad.

Man, if you said to me six months ago I'd be hyped for Katana of all characters...

I'm feeling everything about this except I'm still not down with the Joker's look. Like I even like how he delivers his line, but the tattoos and capped teeth are just killing me. Am I the only one that feel like the Joker's smile should be pearly white?

I'll wait to see the movie to form my final opinion, but so far I don't like this Joker. The tats and grills are just awful. I know this is circle jerked since we first saw this Joker, but I am just worried.

There was definitely a glimpse at a scene between the Joker and Harleen Quinzel. Are we getting flashbacks?
