Most pharmacies only ask for ID for controlled substances. I take klonopin and I have to show ID when dropping off the RX and 10 minutes later I have to show ID again to pick it up.

I'm also on Klonopin an have only ever had to show ID when picking it up. I can have friends pick it up but they have to show ID and state their relationship to me. One friend came by with my meds and said, "OK, so I'm your girlfriend now." Another friend said, "Well, I'm officially your caretaker, as far as [pharmacy] is concerned."

Technically neither were neighbors but neighbor is an option. And my friends are goofballs.

Oh, and by the way, everywhere asks for ID for pseudoephedrine now. Not the "PE" stuff, but the other. People use it to make meth, I guess. Used to irritate me a little but now I can't even take pseudoephedrine so not a big deal.

Hmmm that's interesting I live in NY and they are very strict with Rx's. Usually I just swing by the pharmacy on my way home from the doctors and they fill my meds within 15 mins. I go to a small mom and pop pharmacy maybe the show your ID twice is their rule.

Most of my meds are submitted by computer now, from my doctor's office. I don't have a car so unless I can borrow a car or bum a ride, I ask others to pick them up for me.

That sucks I'm on two controls so I need to drop off hard copies every month and one non controlled med that I get refills. You should look into pharmacies that deliver there are a few in my area.

As far as the psydo goes it's been years since I've take it I'm assuming they asked for ID I just remembered them writing some info in a notebook. Same with when I used to buy syringes they didn't ask for ID they just kept some records in a notebook

This is really interesting. I live in Chicago and not once have I had to show anything to pick up my Klonopin or my Ativan. In fact, I didn't even have to do the in person drop off that I've had to do with things like cough medicine with codeine in it. That's so strange!

I'm in NY now and they are very strict. It could be the pharmacy I go to which is a small mom and pop. I go today for a refill and will probably head to Walgreens let's see if they make me show ID. Also I lived in FL for 8 years and I never had to show ID. I guess it's either store policy, state law or pharmacists discretion.

Well, how low and miserable must your life be, how desperate you must be, and how little understanding must you have to do something like that. Count your blessings.

Exactly, I felt really bad. I've never been in a situation where I was that desperate.

I'm glad that the pharmacist said something about the ID borrowing.

Or he was trying to buy medicine that he needed and did not have an I.D. In the U.S. some pharmacies require I.D. for certain purchases (pseudoephedrine comes to mind). No offense but you might be the asshole in this situation laughing about a man not getting medicine he needs.

Why is she an asshole? Its his personal responsibility

Also, another thing, if the prescription requires an ID to get filled, then most likely he needed an ID to get the refill request itself. So how did he even get it in the first place if it requires an ID to be prescribed? Shouldn't he have already had one, cause how else would he have gotten the refill request? This is what made me really sketched out about letting him use my ID and led me to believe something fishy was going on.

Yeh, I think you missed the point. I wasn't laughing at the fact that he couldn't get an ID, I just thought it was funny that an old man would try to use my ID and pass off as a woman. Also, the fact that he was asking to use my ID in general is really sketchy. I'm not being mean, I'm just not an idiot whose gonna let some random stranger (homeless or not) borrow my ID for any reason, especially something sketchy like picking up a prescription. You do know it's illegal to let someone who isn't you use your ID right?
