You're now comparing drunk driving to texting while driving?

I sincerely hope that, since you all are certain it will come, when the day comes I do hit someone while texting and driving, I hope it's simultaneously all of you and your entire family and you all die writhing in agony as I walk over to you and take a selfie so we can clean up the gene pool a little bit.

You know how many studies have falsified/doctored/flat out incorrect statistics and analysis?

You all are like "but numbers!" And I'm like "but life. But genuine repeated experience."

Texting, like any form of distractions while driving (radio, friends, food, makeup, pets, your annoying eye twitch that won't go away despite your doctors reassurances) can be done safely and with minimal risk to everyone involved if done correctly.

Am I suggesting you don't look up for a quarter of a mile and stare at your screen? No, do you do that when you are looking for a radio station? No, you hit "next" and focus back on the road; if it's a song you don't like you divert attention for a split second, hit next, and you're on your way.

Same shit. I'm driving, I look down and type "im" look up for a few seconds, make a note of where the vehicles are ahead of me, to the side and behind, how fast they're going, where momentum says they'll be if I look away for another second, and then type "on," immediately look up, see that the cars are where momentum and physics said they should be and then type "my way" and look up to see traffic as it should be.

Im not saying texting while driving can't be dangerous, but then again so could singing while driving, if you think texting while driving can't even done responsibly , I'm sorry you're incapable of being anything but a short-sighted buffoon.

Ignorance is bliss though, enjoy the glass house you all live in; maybe I'll crash through it tomorrow checking Twitter on the road.

The problem might not be YOU when you're texting. People that eat and drive think that since they can drive in a straight line, they are okay. The problem comes when you have to react to something that happens in front of you. Even if you're looking away only for a split second, that is enough to cause an accident. For example, .5 seconds at 60 mph (1 mile/minute, or 88 feet per second) you travel 44 feet in .5 seconds. That means that if you had to stop, you'd be 44 feet past where you would have been if you had been paying attention for that .5 seconds. This means you're inside/have run into the car in front of you. 44 feet is quite the distance to not be paying attention. Keep in mind a car is maybe 10 feet long. That's 4 car lengths you're traveling. Now if it's like 3 second you look down, that's over 264 feet. DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE.

Any information any study of this nature comes up with is horribly skewed and useless.

Firstly, these studies are committed by biased people who are wanting to confirm their belief.

Secondly, they hire people who share their beliefs to participate in the "test". If your test subject knows what's being tested, your results are automatically invalid.

Thirdly, they set up an impossible scenario. It's a closed-course cone set up. Not realistic at all. The participants have a false sense of security since they're in a test, not an actual dangerous scenario. Therefore they're not paying adequate attention, are overly relaxed, and certainly not prepared for retarded things like a rocket-rocket-powered raccoon being thrown into the midst. It's all bullshit.

You want an actual data set on accidents actually caused by cellphone usuage? Look at traffic reports. You'll find an overwhelming common denominator in these crashes, and it's not the cell phone. It's irresponsible, idiotic drivers.

The same people who have been crashing throughout the decades, be it from yelling at their spouse and kids, futzing with the radio, putting on makeup, or gobbing some fast food, are the same idiots crashing today. The stupidity has remained, the distraction has merely changed. You could put blinders on these people and they'd still find a way to fuck up.

These tailor-made studies prove less than nothing. I could just as easily commit my own test with a handful of professional drivers, and get the exact opposite result. Or merely point to the world's most popular motoring show, Top Gear. Those guys have been driving "distracted" for 20 years and haven't had a problem.

That's a view that is denied by the numerous studies performed all across the globe. If you honestly believe that every single one is biased, then there is no reasoning with you.
People can not control their reaction times. Whether or not you are aware something is about to happen has little impact on how quickly you can react. Factors such as the time it takes for you brain to analyze a situation and react accordingly are out of you control. So even if I told you I was about to punch you in the mouth your brain couldn't react any quicker then if I just straight did it.
Of course they are in closed course areas. Would you rather then did this on a public highway? The only way to put these tests in scenarios in which you deem acceptable is to put lives in danger, which no one would authorize or participate in.

Lastly, you are correct. It is idiotic drivers causing these crashes. The study I linked above showed in 2011 3,331 where killed by distracted drivers. You look down at your phone for a text for "a fraction of a second", you are a distracted driver.

And on a final note, if you are such a expert on what is acceptable information, then please show me something that isn't skewed. Post a link to a test that proves all my points are wrong. Put on some FACTS rather then spitting out a bunch of bull shit just because you don't want to believe hardcore evidence that is layed out in front of you.

I'll tell you right now plain and simple, you're being a selfish idiot, and you're endangering the lives of everyone around you because you're too stupid to put your down your phone for a few minutes and focus on the road. You're no better than the morons who think alcohol doesn't affect their driving ability, in fact statistically you're worse.

I know you're too incompetent to realize how dumb it is to drive a two ton metal death machine at several miles per hour without looking at the road, and I know that I won't convince you because you're too arrogant, but one of these days if you do it enough I promise it will get you. I hope you're luckily enough that it will only be a minor crash and just enough to make you realize how ignorant you're being, not something that will leave you with permanent brain damage or with someone's blood on your hands.
