Yeah, except getting accepted into college/ med school is so much easier as a minority that isn't Asian.

I think the counterargument would be that part of getting to the level where you are even thinking about college/med school is much, much more likely when you have people in your life encouraging you and showing you the way to get to college.

So for example, you're a smart kid with loads of potential but maybe you fucked around in school because that's what everybody did and zero or few parents/mentors were there to show you the way.

Too often we think of equal opportunity as being simply a matter of whether or not some organization would want you assuming you are qualified. But equal opportunity also has to refer to equality of opportunities and advantages at every step of your life. This part is tricky because it's not like we can advocate for taking away opportunities from some people in order to make things equal. But we have to at the very least be aware that people in upper classes or with connections have major advantages that have nothing to do with whether or not their race or socioeconomic status has advantages only at the level of admittance.

That's bullshit. You're oversimplifying a complex situation to the point where you're no longer adding anything to the conversation.

That was hella articulate bruh, well put.

I blame the heavy emphasis on sports in admissions. You know Ivies used to consider sports and leadership heavily because they felt it weeded out Jews?

Yeah, except schools in impoverished neighborhoods suck.

Fuck, I'm asian

Yeah, same here, it sucks. It's like you tell an interviewer or write in an essay that you want to go into medicine and they're like, "Oh, an overachieving Asian with no personality who wants to be a doctor? There aren't a million of those here already."

Said this the last time it was posted and people bitched, legal institutional racism isn't some ancient thing. A barber in his sixties easily could have faced discrimination getting into med school. Brown v. Board of Education was ruled on in 1954. That was by no means the end of segregation as the battle went on across much of the country into the 70's. If you really think nobody is around that was directly affected by racism, you are ignorant as fuck.

Maybe you forgot about all those white-male scholarship funds out there.. Wait...

It's all fun and games until someone points a finger at those uppity whites.

perpetuation of a stereotype reinforces the stereotype.

How do we know the barber is even black

Because he can cut curly hair. Seriously though, if you have curly hair you know what neighborhood barbers to go to.

Growing up in a predominantly white area... I've been burned too many times by white barbers in the past. I've learned my fucking lesson

Growing up in a shifty area, I know who could cut my hair or couldn't. I had to leave the hood or else they'd try to edge me up

What if the barber was an asian boy who only had a 3.9 gpa?

What makes you think the barber is black? There are more minorities than just blacks and Asians

Uhhhh white? I don't really know, I'm color deficient

Doesn't mean they can actually become a surgeon after college.
