Would you be embarrassed to tell people (in the real world) that you are the moderator of all of the subs that you mod? In other words, would you be happy to attach your face to your account and the subs you mod?

I take measures to prevent that from happening. Most of my friends would get it, though. I've worked in kitchens for years, where casually using the slurs often used to describe homosexuals, African Americans, and transgendered people is the norm.

Also, what do you like best about this site?

The few real people I've come to know outside Reddit through texts, Twitter and chats.

I take measures to prevent that from happening.

And for good reason.

No wonder you keep your true self such a secret.

There's not a mental health professional on the planet that would look at what you do and conclude that you're in good shape.

You know, you don't HAVE to be a stereotype. You can fix yourself. Turn it around.

You know, you don't HAVE to be a stereotype.

What is my stereotype?

A person who needs to punch down because shit isn't right with them.

And you know this, because you take steps to hide what you do from the world.

Don't take my word for it: Go to a shrink and show them what you do. Explain to them why it's not a big deal, why it's not a sign of a problem. Explain that if you didn't do it someone else would, so it's fine. Show them /r/beatingautists.

The stereotype of the young guy working in a low-end job, getting shit on, and needing to pass it on to someone else. You're punching down. You're helping all that shit that landed on your head flow down hill.

You're not original. You're a textbook entry. You're a question on a quiz.

But you don't HAVE to be that way. You don't have to be part of a statistic. You don't have to.

Getting a little heavy there. This is just Reddit.

No, this is a social interaction where you act out.

Like I said, you're not unique, you're a textbook entry.

Do you think letters don't count? Phone calls? Leaflets? Flyers? That somehow Reddit is different from 15 years of the Internet as a whole, or e-mail and usenet and message boards and social media?

Reddit, and the Internet as a whole, is just a new chapter in how human beings communicate with each other.

I'm sorry it's heavy, but it's true.

And like I said don't take my word for it: go to another professional. Go see what they think.

I'm sorry, I really am, that you're where you are. I truly believe that you can turn it around, because I've never met a human being who couldn't when given access to the proper tools and the proper care. But what you're doing isn't healthy, it's textbook acting out, and it's a sign of bigger things. And no one does this in a vacuum, especially to the degree you have.

It's what I say to everyone in your position that I've met: You don't have to be a stereotype. You don't have to be a statistic, you don't have to be just another example. You can be your own man, your own human being. You can be better.

The internet is part of real life as all its users are real human beings.

On Reddit, you're encouraged to hide your true identity to prevent doxxing. It's not like Facebook where you're required to use your real name. I simply take it to a different level of protection.

If I was ever doxxed by having my Facebook linked to Reddit, no one would believe the dox to be true.

He is getting a "little heavy there" because this is not really all a joke - just because it's Reddit doesn't mean it isn't real.

Really? Coming from you? Do you read the shit you write?

If I may get comfy in my armchair, people who do something like this probably crave attention

[–]mischief_managed 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

Which is exactly what he's getting right now.

Just because you work(ed) in a toxic work environment doesn't mean it is suddenly okay or anything.

God, your life sounds miserable if this is the way you get your entertainment, and if this is the standard of discourse in your social circle.

You should read this book. It explains the environment better than I can.

That is such a copout. You dont have to remain part of the problem. You can at least try to be a somewhat better human being.

Why do you assume the environment is "toxic"? That's pretty presumptuous of you. You don't know where he worked, or the people he worked with, or anything about it. But you're ok with calling it "toxic".

Maybe some people think your hugbox is "toxic". Just sayin.

Keep it civil please.

I kept it civil.

god your life sounds miserable

Doesn't seem too civil. It was a reminder, you didn't get a ban.

Bigotry isn't civil, you should ban 28DansLater.

There's no bigotry in this thread from Dan. He's answering questions and taking hostility in good faith

His very presence is bigoted.

Your username could be taken as offensive to gay people...but that's just digging for something to complain about. If you don't like him, don't be in this thread. We will not tolerate insults

If you're truly offended by this thread, here's the way out.

Why continue browsing this thread if that's your attitude towards it?

Because this subreddit ought to be above giving people like this a platform.

Why do you think that? The purpose of cb is to break circlejerks, and maybe have a little fun and learn something along the way. There's not supposed to be an ideology (not saying there isn't, but there's not supposed to be).

We're giving users a chance to ask him questions they may be curious about, not passing him some golden key to our subreddit.

Plus it's not even like this is our first rodeo. Here's a incomplete list of our previous AMA's:

  1. /r/facepalm's mods
  2. Laurelai of social justice infamy
  3. SRD's mods
  4. cringe's mods
  5. imgoingtohellforthis's mods
  6. ArchangelleDworkin, of SRS

What's to understand? He's a white male edgelord, the kind of person that permeates this website through every level. This subreddit was literally sprung out out of reactions to his ilk. I'd say we understand him well enough. And a platform doesn't have to be carved out of stone to give someone a position to do more harm.

Why continue browsing this thread if that's your attitude towards it?

How else can someone fulfill their poutrage fix if they avoid things to be huffy and superior about?

He is explaining his opinions. If he directly starts insulting users, we will act accordingly. We will not tolerate direct insults to anyone
