Why have them then? You forgot to mention a lot of what people pay off is simple the loan interest, and end up paying more back then their original loan.

You also forget the psychological aspect of having a large amount of debt to your name. People have committed suicide over having large amount of debts to their name.

Student debt is setup in away to tax high earners out of university.
While about 75% of students will never pay the debt back the other 25% will pay the debt, the interest on the debt and the premium for paying off the debt.

If you don't want to go down that path of student debt you could have visited an Islamic bank for the alternative route.

Well for particulars sects of the Islamic faith, debt is conceded a sin.

Now considering that debt is an integral part of our modern life, puts this on a course to intercept with fundamental Islamic teachings. Thus the Islamic bank/banks have been setup to skirt around this problem.

Oh fuck off, no one has killed themselves in the UK for having too much student debt. That's completely fucking ridiculous.

At his inquest, the coroner said it would be wrong to suggest he had killed himself simply because of his debt

So bullshit. Also he was 3 grand in debt not from student loans.
