I fairly certain that by trying to short bitcoin, I am opening myself to the same liabilities and fraud as if I was just trying to make money off of bitcoin increasing in value.

This is silly.

Regardless of pump and dump, the price of Bitcoin has no explanation anyway.

If you short it, you imply it should be lower than 300. But in fact it could literally be anything. Why 250 and not 2000 or 0.00003?

If you argue "that's crazy, it won't reach 2000", I can argue "that's crazy, it won't reach 25".

What options are there for shorting bitcoin at the moment?

I was always used to seeing "shorts" painted as the bad guys on stock forums.

When there are more options for shorting bitcoin, I except the focus of bitcoin rage and blame to switch from "non-believers" and "missed the boaters" to "shorts"...then we've hit the mainstream.

But enough about Overstock.

Don't make the mistake of thinking Bitcoin moves on fundamentals. I mean, stock prices will eventually drop if the company's profits suffer, but what drives the price of Bitcoin? As near as I can figure, Bitcoin's sell pressure is determined mostly by the whales who buy off-exchange lots from Chinese miners. I don't know if it's worth betting on what they're going to decide to do tomorrow.
