They die on my grandpappy's front porch too. He hasn't been allowed to own any kind of decent gun since his conviction back in the seventies, but he's been using my left-behind BB guns to teach those little bandits a lesson about shitting on his newly stained deck.

Problem is that those little boogers have tough hides. But my grandpappy is quite the shot and since he retired he doesn't have anything better to do anymore so most nights he just camps out in the bushes with my little pump-action BB gun and waits for the sneaky-handed little rodents to trespass on his property.

One shot won't get 'em dead like he wants them though. Trouble is, they're usually gone by the second shot, especially after all the ruckus he makes pumping the gun back up from the shrubbery. So, in an effort to preserve his deck, one night he glued that really sticky fly paper to the deck and got his gun pumped up really good before the sunset and waited.

Now, I don't usually tell the rest of this story because my girlfriend begs me not to. She's an enemy sympathizer. She thinks they're "cute." But she hasn't seen the dark side like me and my grandpappy.

Anyway, grandpappy waited until one of those boogers landed their grubby little claws on the porch and he took his shot.

Nailed him right in the hind leg. Have you ever heard a raccoon squeal? It's something you'd expect to hear from some kind of bear-cat hybrid. Terrifying and shrill. It shakes you to your core. The critter wriggled and writhed around trying to free itself from the trap as my grandpappy pumped up for round two.

The second shot was a miss. I'll spare you the rest of the gruesome details, mostly because I typed this on mobile and my fingers hurt, but after four more shots the little bandit wasn't wriggling and writhing any more.

My dad shot a possum in the head four times with a BB gun that had previously taken down squirrels without a hitch. Needless to say my dad decided to have a tactical relocation to the interior of the house and left the possum to do its thing.

Literally the most popular place for racoons to live

[–]spiffyknobber 4ポイント5ポイント  (0子コメント)

I used to install satellite tv and had to run cable under houses all the time. One day I'm crawling around under this house that had a fairly large opening to the underneath of the house that wasn't shut when I got to it, so I was expecting some sort of critter under there as is usually the case- mostly cats. I'm working away and stop for a second to catch my breath from crawling around down there, and I hear something/someone snoring... but it's a cute, small being snore. I listen more closely and locate where the sound was coming from, then crawl over to it and find a huge fat urban raccoon snoring away his afternoon, no doubt dreaming of the garbage cans he was going to raid that night.

I've come across mummified bodies of raccoons under houses as well- they love to tear down insulation from under trailers and homes and chill out down there, waiting for night to fall. If you want to preserve your home's integrity, keep the cute lol buggers out by blocking vents or access holes! So to answer your question, coons love to live near humans to raid or trash and eat our cat food.

Same with baby pigeons. Why do you never see baby pigeons anywhere? Do they exist?

[–]beardedandkinky 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

They aren't big enough to fly yet so they stay in the nest

[–]better-every-day 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

Owls too. Whoooooo has ever seen a sleeping owl?

[–]Onefortwo 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

I can sorta give you an answer on this. Growing up there were a bunch of racoon on my street and never knew where they were living. Maybe under a garage or shed or something?

Well one day we were driving down the street and at a stop sign with a sewer next to it. (The drainage type that is kind of open on the curb) and we see a while family of racoon come in grab some garbage/food and go back in.

So I'm assuming they find some little shelter and that's where they sleep.

I want to ask so many inappropriate questions to Siamese twins like Abigail and Brittany Hensel.

How do they poop? Who controls the poop and pee? Do they masturbate? What's it like to have sex with Siamese twins like that? How does orgasm work if it's 2 brains and 1 vagina? How would they ever get married? 2 husbands? Each husband would take turns having sex with the vagina they both share......unless they got married to the same guy. Is that even legal?

I'm curious about the differences in interests in humans. Why are some people drawn to violence? Why do some people view things this way or that way? What in our brain chemistry determines this? Im totally accepting of the theory that we will never fully unlock the human brain, but I still can't help but wonder how it happens.

The difference between bisexuality and pansexuality.

Hear me out, please, before you go full Reddit on me and call me an ignorant piece of shit.

I've googled it, and many people say that the difference is that pansexuals are attracted to transexuals, third gender, intersex, nonbinary people. But, I know straight guys who would sleep with a MTF transgender person, and we don't give them a distinctive title. Why do bisexuals who are OK with it need a distinctive title, so distinctive, in fact, that some people on my Facebook newsfeed are putting on their profile pictures entirely different colors than the rainbow, LGBT colors and calling them "pan colors"? It seems like a distinction without much of a difference that people are taking very far.

Additionally, here are some definitions of the two.

From the Stonewall definition of bisexuality:

A changeable sexual and emotional attraction to people, where gender may not be a defining factor.

From the wikipedia entry on pansexuality:

Pansexual people may refer to themselves as gender-blind, asserting that gender and sex are insignificant or irrelevant in determining whether they will be sexually attracted to others.

It seems to me like there's an incredibly thin line, if one at all, between the two, that doesn't merit Facebook posts that scoff at rainbow colors in favor of a unique flag. I'm curious about the whole thing.

Thanks to anyone who wants to make a clarifying or objecting point. I'm all ears.

[–]lovine 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

Let me take a crack at this - it is a confusing subject, and even people who are bi/pansexual define their sexualities in different ways.

For bisexuals, the traditional definition is "attraction to both men and women", however, this is exclusive of people who don't fit neatly into those categories, especially since most bisexuals (including myself) ARE attracted to transgender/nonbinary individuals, despite the common misconception that bisexuals are not. So, a more inclusive (and accurate) definition would be along the lines of: "Attraction to both the same and other genders as yourself."

This new definition brings bisexuality closer to pansexuality than the traditional one, and in truth, the two are very similar. The major difference lies in the fact, as another commenter said, in the fact that pansexuals are "gender-blind", which is used in the definition of pansexuality: "Attraction regardless of gender." Bisexuals on the other hand, often (but not always) do have preferences towards some genders over others (feminine over masculine, or vice versa), while pansexuals generally (but again, not always) do not have such preferences - all genders are treated equally. Sexuality is a complicated thing, and the reasoning behind a person identifying a certain way varies from person to person, but these are the broad identifiers of both sexualities.

Finally, here's a nice quote that sums up my feelings on my bisexuality: “I call myself bisexual because I acknowledge in myself the potential to be attracted, romantically and/or sexually, to people of more than one sex, not necessarily at the same time, not necessarily in the same way, and not necessarily to the same degree.”

And one for pansexuality: "The [pansexual] identity is used merely to express the openness and fluidity to people of all genders."

[–]raveninwhite 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

Bisexual person here! I also identify as pan, but I prefer bisexual.

Honestly, there's not much of a line if we're talking in general terms. Bisexuality is the attraction to two or more genders (not necessarily in the same way or at the same level). A bisexual person can be attracted to just men and women, or they can be attracted to all genders (or anything in between). Pansexuality is the attraction to all genders. Many pansexuals are gender-blind, yes, but a majority that I've talked to just seem to use it as a term for attraction to all genders.

Therefore, a bisexual person can be technically pansexual or polysexual or whatever, and pan/poly/etc. people are technically bisexual by modern definition.

Unfortunately, a lot of people - especially the younger pansexual community who did not have time to think of themselves as bisexual - like to claim that bisexuals are transphobic, not interested in non-binary people, etc. It's really just a case of ignorance in those people, sadly. (Note: Plenty of people who identify as pansexual are cool with bisexuals. It's just the loud minority that is rude to us and spreads inaccurate information.)

As for the flag... Are you queer in any way? If not, I can see why you might feel like a unique flag is unnecessary. The rainbow flag is meant to signify homosexual pride/support, but it has become a symbol for the whole queer movement. However, since it is meant to signify mainly gay pride to the queer community, most of us have pride for our specific flags because they stand for our respective sexuality and/or gender identities. I have my profile pictures as the bisexual flag because it represents my sexuality, and I'm seeing a lot of people do the same for their respective sexuality and/or gender identities. Most of those flags have existed for years, but they're rarely seen outside of the queer community, so not too many people know about them.

Edit because apparently I can't write English well.

[–]cordycake 1ポイント2ポイント  (0子コメント)

My sister is a pansexual and the way she explains it to me is being "gender-blind." So people are just people I guess. She can be attracted to any person, no matter if they're male or female or whatever else(?) simply because gender isn't really a thing to her.

I've done it while massively drunk, and allowed a friend to "work in" with my gf and I. Five or so years ago my gf and I threw a big party every monday, and after people started leaving it almost always ended up with me and her and my best bud, lets call him John. Anyway, the three of us would always be watching some movie and I'd start getting frisky with my girl and most of the time we'd end up doing it on the couch he was sharing with us. Then eventually she gave him a sort of pity handjob and it evolved from there over a few weeks.

My mum passed away when I was 12, my dad was one of the youngest royal marines in Britain and is a tough nut. I'm a mirror twin. I also have a qualification in rescue diving. Just been out of a long-term relationship a few months ago but I think I've found my feet. I like to travel to places, so far alone I've been to New Zealand and will be in Italy in a few hours (At the airport right now), with friends I've mostly been to countries in Africa. My dream is to get a PhD in Clinical Psychology and possibly set-up my own practice. I'm straight but my twin brother is gay, and I help him with his boyfriend that suffers from schizophrenia (Great guy, just needs help when he has an episode). I recently decided to cut out a lot of things that make me unhappy in life, so I'm moving from my current flat to one that I much prefer to be in with people I like.

Why does the black community keep itself segregated from the rest of american culture? I know it's not everyone, but there is a clear line between black americans and everyone else. As an asian, I understand heritage and such, and things like that should never be forgotten, but I really feel that "black culture" is not trying to integrate, and here is the SUPER DISAGREEABLE PART: it makes the racial thing in america harder, because how are we supposed to work with people who insist on being their own thing? Are blacks more criminally active than non-blacks (per capita) or is there a real racial motivation? Stereotypes don't come out of nowhere. We, as a nation, need to unite, and together we can work to solve this issue. Downvote me or whatever, but I think that the blacks are not helping when it comes to being a "melting pot"

[–]1dontpanic 14ポイント15ポイント  (6子コメント)

[–]HABSolutelyCrAzY 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

[–]Jesus-chan 4ポイント5ポイント  (4子コメント)

There is a difference between kids and adults. It's the adults that really grind my gears. Defending shitty criminals and not saying anything about black on black violence

[–]ohanamore 2ポイント3ポイント  (0子コメント)

If you have time this article does a pretty good job explaining the difference between the perceptions of being in a Black community versus White.

[–]better-every-day 1ポイント2ポイント  (4子コメント)

People want to be with other people who are like them. I think it really is that simple. If you take a look at a high school cafeteria it is really clear.

Also, I think blacks are more criminally active, but I think that is more a result of the fact that blacks are much more likely to be poor, and that poor people are much more likely to commit crime.

What does it feel like to be in love? How do you know when you are in love?

[–]_will_sex_for_food 3ポイント4ポイント  (1子コメント)

Love is one of the few things that you are never quite sure if it is what you are actually feeling. Especially as a teenager because of all those crazy hormones, but there are a few things that signify that the feeling is not just a simple infatuation but actually love.

Firstly, love is probably the most powerful feeling in the world, so once you feel it, you don't stop feeling it. For days, weeks even, all you can think of is this person, not necessarily in a sexual manner either, just their smile or their laugh. Whatever it is you can't get it out of your head.

Secondly, when you love someone you put them before any and all of your needs or desires. Even if it's not for the best, the feeling of love just makes you want to do more for them then you want to do for yourself.

Thirdly, love doesn't happen over night. Forget what movies taught you, love at first sight is a lie. A mutual attraction on the other hand, is quite common, and can spark into love. It is a gradual build up, you may just start as friends and gradually spend more time together and then one night you realize that this is the person that you want to spend the rest of your life with.

I am mildly curious as to why Victoria was fired.

[–]DiversityThePsycho 1ポイント2ポイント  (1子コメント)

I'm honestly curious why every damn discussion on Reddit has to turn into some dumb joke or movie reference unless there's A SERIOUS TAG. A lot of us are ADULTS, who live with their SO, and have kids, yet we make random jokes when we're talking about serious topics.

I know I'll probably get down voted, but I had to get that off my chest. This was more of a rant than a curiosity, sorry

Honestly?

Why the fuck did the rope have to break.

How people can actually believe in a deity. It is like the least logical thing I can think of, and most people are religious. I am curious as to why this is. I understand that people find comfort in it, but other than that, it can only be a disadvantage (generally speaking).

Cigars. Never had an interest in any kind of smoking, but recently I've been curious about trying cigars. I doubt I'd get into them, though. The risk of cancer and whatnot definitely isn't something I'm curious about.

Do real eyes realize real lies?

A few things,

How do blind people know when to stop wiping their butt?

Do crabs think that fish are the birds of the ocean?

Why do we categorize people and discriminate certain groups even if we have never met them before?

After a year of being close to the girl I like have to be completely destroyed by my anxiety and depression?

Fuck.

Where ducks build nests. Is it in trees? Or hidden in bushes? I have a golf course by my house and I've never seen them go into a nest.

Is my dog sad enough to cry ever? I know he can't but if he could would he? Because I think it's such a terrible tragedy that animals can't just let all their feelings out and cry. It's really therapeutic.

What cats dream about.

[–]LPfor3v3r 0ポイント1ポイント  (0子コメント)

I'm really curious about how I come off to people who meet me for the first time.

Am I being too nice? Do they care about what I'm wearing? Am I talking too quiet or too loud? Can they tell I'm introverted?

Ugh, I wish I had better body image and confidence. :/
