Drama free zone (self.sanantonio)

First off, I can't do anything about what anyone does in other subs. I don't necessarily think it's nice to post about others in that manner, but that's out of my jurisdiction.

If there's something out of line in this sub, report it, send a mod mail, or send me a message (I'm more likely to read that than the mod mail)

My advice if you get banned from some random sub, just ignore it (I'm looking at you /r/pyongyang). If you're posted about in another sub, ignore it. It doesn't matter and shouldn't affect you at all.

I'll try to keep better tabs on the mod queue, I usually just browse reddit from Alien Blue, and only read /r/wallstreetbets, that's why I added mods back in the day so I could be lazy.

But seriously, this is /r/sanantonio. Just post things about San Antonio. Stuff happens in this city. The Spurs are doing things. The river is probably still being a river. People are walking by it. Maybe post a picture of the river while walking by it? I don't know.

that's why I added mods back in the day so I could be lazy.

How many of those mods that you hired are still active besides you? And if you have mods who are no longer active enough to mod here, would you consider new ones?

I think about 50%. They've added others too, which some of them have gone away. New mods will likely be added in the future. No idea when or who yet.

Its really hard finding good mods; in regards to drama I'm starting to think its harder to mod r/sanantonio than it is r/nofap.

Anyways, full transparency, I used to have a job where I had 80% free time to do whatever; so I was an extremely active redditor since I had nothing better to do. About 3 years ago, I got a new job; then 2 years ago I got a gf and I've been pretty busy since. Between work, friends, family and reddit, something had to go.

I originally did a lot of CSS work for the reddit, but it looks like most of that got replaced. That's awesome, I'm actually really digging the new look. If you need a new mod in my place that's cool with me, I'm aware of my inactivity.

Thank you. I really don't fully understand what went down yesterday but it reading through that thread made me cringe. I've seen at least one other like that recently and it's just obnoxious. Hopefully we can keep this sub clear of petty drama going forward.

There was a drama post about a certain moderator of like 80 SA themed subreddits. Apparently, there's a lot of distaste for this person, and it seems to be caused by:

  1. The whole subreddit land grab game. Whoever creates a subreddit first has complete control over it. A lot of the best subreddits for certain subjects have bizarre names simply because the owners of the good names grabbed the 'expected' name and did nothing good with it, or actively did something malicious (see below). Reddit doesn't really have a solution for this.

  2. This mod has figured out a trick to get other users shadowbanned, and makes use of their large network of subreddits to achieve it. If this mod has a disagreement with you, and finds out you have any alt, they are able to ban it from all 80 subreddits. Not a problem in itself, but if you contribute to one of the subreddits incidentally on your main, reddit thinks you're trying to get around a subreddit ban and shadowbans you completely.

          Bringing drama here via hate-threads is a problem that can be addressed here. Importing drama to this sub because someone is pissed that they were banned in another sub is unacceptable. If someone is creating drama here specifically to influence the way people vote, that is an even bigger problem that the mods here need to address.

            You need to check again. Repeatedly violating the rules of reddit is grounds for a sitewide ban. Reddiquette is informal suggestions for good behavior, like etiquette. It's not a rule and while violating it repeatedly is a good way to attract downvotes and lose friends, it's not going to get one banned from the site.

              In addition, that is mainly targeted toward stopping people from spamming the same comment after a mod has deleted it. It isn't really about archiving posts at all.

              If archiving in meta subs was a problem then it would be banned by Reddit, but it isn't. Trying to control users' behavior in other subs is ineffective and borders on site-wide censorship. If the mods here wanted to ban all users that post in /r/theredpill or other objectionable subs they could, but it wouldn't lead to the results they are looking for. It would probably even lead to more drama in this sub.

              What they can do is control what content is allowed in this sub. The drama from the other day occurred because users were upset about getting banned from other subs and imported the drama here. It wasn't because of /r/SanAntonioDrama. If the mods here banned importing drama via hate-threads then we wouldn't have the drama that you and Vee_Vee have been trying to create. That's the point the mods are making with this thread and it is the most reasonable course of action.
